Any graduate with a valid CAT/MAT/XAT score will be eligible for admission to the PGDM course. Students studying in their final year degree course are also eligible to apply provided they can produce proof of their result by July. Application forms can be collected in person from the institute (BRIM) or from the office of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan at TD Road, Kochi by paying Rs 600/-. Application forms can be obtained by post by sending a DD for Rs 650/- in favour of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan payable at Kochi. Application forms down loaded from the website also can be used for the purpose, but such application forms should be accompanied by a DD for Rs 600/- in favour of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan payable at Kochi. The duly filled in applications should reach The Dean, Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management, Off Hill Palace-Tripunithura, Old Guest House Road, Thiruvankulam, Kochi- 682 305, Kerala within the stipulated time announced by the institute. The total intake for the course is 60 and 5 times of this capacity will be short-listed for the selection process. The opening of the admissions will be advertised in the print media and students from all the States can participate in the admission process. The Admissions to the course will be closed by June every year and the classes will commence in July.

The short-listed candidates will be called for interview and group discussion at Kochi. A panel of experts from industry and academia will select the prospective candidates based on the following norms

BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination-2009

Objective:
University of Pune (UoP), on behalf of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, will conduct the BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) examination. The objective of this examination is to certify bioinformatics professionals, trained formally as well as selftrained.

Eligibility:
Graduate in Science, Agriculture, Veterinary, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering & Technology are eligible to appear in the examination. They need not have any formal training viz., certificate, diploma or degree in Bioinformatics. Students in final year of Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.


Application & Syllabus:
The online application begins on December 1, 2008 and will continue until January 16, 2009.
The examination fee is Rs. 600/- for general category, Rs. 450/- for reserved category and US $100 for foreign students. Please visit the website (http://bioinfo.ernet.in/binc/) for detail information. Syllabus consists of four sections: biology, physical and chemical sciences, IT, and bioinformatics.

Examination:
The examination is scheduled on February 21-22, 2009 and will be in three parts. The paper I will be objective type, only those who pass this paper with a minimum of 40% marks will be eligible to appear for the paper II and paper III. The paper II will be short answer type, while the paper III will be a computer-based practical. The certification will be awarded to those who secure a minimum of 40% in all the three papers.

Research fellowships will be awarded to 15 BINC qualified Indian nationals to pursue Ph.D. in Indian Institutes/Universities. Note that the candidate must possess a postgraduate degree & meet the criteria of the institutes/universities in order to avail research fellowship. In addition, a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- will be awarded to the top 10 BINC qualifiers.

BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination will be conducted on 21-22 February 2009. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India has instituted this examination with an objective to certify Bioinformatics professionals and to facilitate industries and potential employers for recruitment. University of Pune has been identified as a nodal agency by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to coordinate this examination along with six centres namely, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; Anna University, Chennai; West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata; Institute of Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore; North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong and University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.


In the BINC 2008 examination 391 candidates appeared of which 12 candidates got certified and top 10 BINC qualifiers received cash award of Rs.10,000/-.


This year DBT has agreed to fund Research fellowships will be awarded to 15 BINC qualified Indian nationals to pursue Ph.D. in Indian Institutes/Universities. Note that the candidate must possess a postgraduate degree & meet the criteria of the institutes/universities in order to avail research fellowship. In addition, a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- will be awarded to the top 10 BINC qualifiers.

The National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), a premier organization of its kind in South Asia, is engaged in capacity building and research in educational policy, planning and administration. NUEPA, which is fully maintained by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, offers Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D., Full-time Direct Ph. D. and Part-time Ph. D. programmes in educational policy, planning and administration from a broader inter-disciplinary social science perspective. The research programmes of NUEPA cover all levels and types of education from both national and international development perspectives. NUEPA invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to its Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. and Full-time Direct Ph. D. (34 seats); and Part-time Ph. D. Programmes (5 seats) for the year 2009-10. These will also include those qualifying from the M. Phil. programme of NUEPA. While selecting the candidates for admission, NUEPA will follow all mandatory provisions in the reservation policy of the Government of India.

Admissions to Full-time Integrated M. Phil.- Ph. D., Full-time Direct Ph. D. and Part-time Ph. D. programmes will be made purely on the basis of merit following the prescribed criteria of the University.


Fellowships
Each selected candidate for the Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. and Full-time Direct Ph. D. shall be offered a fellowship of Rs. 13000/- p.m. + contingency as per rules. The NET qualified candidates, who have been awarded Junior Research Fellowships by the UGC and who fulfil the required qualifications, are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Criteria:

Full-time Programmes
* (i) A candidate seeking admission to the Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. programme shall have a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST candidates ) or its equivalent grade in Master's Degree in education, social sciences and allied disciplines from a recognized university.
(ii) Candidates who are yet to clear their final examination at the Master’s level are also eligible to apply provided they pass the examination as per eligibility conditions already laid down at (i) above and submit its proof at the time of interview.
** A candidate seeking admission to Full-time Direct Ph. D. Programme shall have an M. Phil. degree in an area closely related to educational and administration and/or exceptionally brilliant academic record coupled with publications of high quality.

Part-time Programme
A candidate seeking admission to Part-time Ph. D. programme is required to meet the following criteria:
** Should possess the educational qualifications as mentioned in Para (A) (i) above;
** Currently, should be in full-time employment;
** Should be a senior level educational functionary/administrator with a minimum of five years work experience in teaching, educational planning and administration.


Mode of Selection
The University reserves the right to decide the number of seats to be filled in the year 2009-10; the criteria for screening of applications; and the selection procedure of candidates for admission to its Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. and Ph. D. programmes. The mode of selection of candidates will be as under:
(i) Initial short-listing of applications will be carried out on the basis of relevance and quality of the brief write-up (in the prescribed format) in the proposed area of research to be submitted along with the application form;
(ii) Short-listed candidates will be invited for second level screening through which the University will assess the general awareness of the candidates about the educational issues and their motivation to pursue research.
(iii) Written test for the short-listed candidate will be scheduled on 30 May, 2009 at NUEPA at 9.00 a.m.
(iv) Face-to-face interview for the qualified candidates will be from June 1-3, 2009.

Candidates may apply in the prescribed form for admission to Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. and Ph. D. programmes of the University along with three copies of the brief write-up (in the prescribed format) on the proposed research topic of a contemporary issue within the broad framework of educational policy, planning and administration.
