Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance 2010



Admission to post graduate programmes

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising faculty from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.


Admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy or Master degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must additionally secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy who may be seeking scholarship/assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.

The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2010 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati , designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2010.

ELIGIBILITY FOR GATE
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE :

Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

Master degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.

Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AMICE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

What is new in GATE 2010
New Paper introduced in GATE 2010: Biotechnology (BT) has been introduced as an independent paper from GATE 2010.
Common Component of General Aptitude (GA) introduced in GATE 2010: Each GATE paper shall have a common General Aptitude (GA) component carrying 15 marks from GATE 2010.
Papers to be discontinued from GATE 2010 onwards:
Due to introduction of an independent paper in Biotechnology (BT), the Biotechnology section in Life Sciences (XL) paper has been discontinued from GATE 2010.
There will not be GATE 2010 examination in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PY) paper. For more information about the organization which will be conducting a GATE like examination for PY, the candidates are advised to visit GATE 2010 website from time to time.
ONLINE Examination for MN and TF paper:
Computer based ONLINE examination for the paper MN will be held in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Roorkee on February 07, 2010 (Sunday) at 09.30 hrs – 12.30 hrs

Duly filled-in Application Form with appropriate enclosures must be sent by Registered or Speed post to The Chairman, GATE of the Zone, where the candidate prefers (corresponding to the 1st Choice of Examination City) to appear for the examination, on or before Tuesday, November 03, 2009

It can be handed over personally to respective Zonal GATE Office.
Step 5: Post/Submission
An application which is incomplete by not uploading the necessary documents can be completed by sending those documents by post along with a covering note that can be printed on the online site. All such documents must reach the GATE office at IIT Kanpur by November 3, 2009.

RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme 2009

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme to generate interest in and awareness about the Indian banking sector and RBI. Under the scheme, the RBI will select a maximum of 150 young scholars through a countrywide competitive examination and awarded a scholarship.

Selection test will focus on the role and functions of RBI and banks in India and will be held in English as well as all major regional languages. Selected candidates will be required to work on projects in select offices of RBI for 2 to 3 months and will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs 7,500/- per month during the duration of the project. RBI will assist outstation awardees in boarding and lodging. The awareness shall have no right/claim for an appointment in the RBI. Any candidate who had qualified and worked at RBI under the RBI Young Scholar Award Scheme in any of the previous years need not apply again.

Eligibility
(A) Educational Qualification: All students across India who have completed 10 + 2 years of formal education or its equivalent from recognized institutions/boards in 2009 or before and are currently pursuing their undergraduate studies. However, those having enrolled for or having acquired degree(s) higher than graduation will not be eligible. Candidates who have qualified and worked at RBI as a Young Scholar in any of the previous years are not eligible to apply.

(B) Age : Candidates should be of age 18 years or more but less than 23 years as on September 1, 2009.



All students, between 18 and 23 years of age, currently pursuing their undergraduate studies in any subject under any recognized university in India, are eligible to take the competitive examination.

There is no application fee

The selection test will be held on January 10, 2010 at various centres across India.

The results of the selection test are likely to be announced in the middle of March 2010.

Entrance Examination

The entrance exam will be conducted in English, Hindi and 11 other regional languages. The regional languages will be Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The exam will be held at around 100 different locations spread all across the country. The List of Centresis given in this notification.

Examination Pattern and Syllabus

The examination will be of objective type with multiple choices for answers. The paper will be of approximately 90 minutes duration and will have questions related to role and functioning of the RBI, the trend of banking industry in India and general economic and financial environment of the country.

How to Apply

Candidates willing to apply for the scholarship may apply in the prescribed application form available on http://www.rbi.org.in/youngscholars.aspx either on line or offline. There is no fee for application or examination.

10. Last Date for Receipt of Application

The application and/or print-outs of application made online should reach the address mentioned above before October 21, 2009 by ordinary post. For the candidates staying abroad and for those posting print-out from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Minicoy Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of J & K State, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, the last date for receipt of Print-out will be October 28, 2009. A print-out received after the last date will not be entertained.

The Reserve Bank of India/Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will not be responsible for any loss of application/print-out in transit or for rejection of application print-out because of non-receipt of print-out on or before the stipulated date.

Call Letter for the Written Test

Call letters for the written test to be held on January 10, 2010 will be posted to all the candidates through ordinary post under certificate of posting well in advance. However, if somebody does not get the same by January 5, 2010 he/she should download the same from the RBI website. To download the duplicate call letter candidates should know their application registration number which will also be sent by email to the candidates who provide a valid email- id. Alternately, name and date of birth details can also be used for downloading the call letter from the website.

For DM/M.Ch courses, the candidates who have made more than one attempt in MBBS/MD/MS career are not eligible. However, those belonging to SC/ST with up to two attempts in their MBBS/BDS career will be eligible for MD/MS/MDS and House job in Oral Health Sciences.


The candidates completing internship after 31.12.2009 are not eligible for course no. 1 to 3.


The number of seats wherever indicated are provisional and may increases/decreases without any prior notice.

A candidate applying for more than one subject/course except category-1 & 2 is required to submit separate application complete in all respect for each subject/course.

The prescribed application forms along with prospectus (brochure of Information) are also available from the office of the undersigned either personally on payment of Rs. 500/- for General/OBC/OPH category and Rs. 400/- for SC/ST at the counter (Kairon Block, Room No. 309) from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm on all working days except Saturdays (on Saturdays, forms will be available from 10.30 am to 12.00 noon) or by post for which the request must be accompanied with a self addressed thick envelope of size 24 x 15 cm bearing postage stamps of Rs. 30/- and bank draft preferably from any SBI branch payable at SBI Medical Institute Branch (code no. 1524) Chandigarh for General/OBC/OPH Rs. 500/- and for SC/ST Rs. 400/- (indicating category) drawn in favour of the Director, PGI, Chandigarh. Note: Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC is as per Government of India norms. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and are applying for Diploma courses are required to secure only 50% in the qualifying examinations.

General Information
Upper age limit as on 1st January 2010 is 35 years for DM/M.Ch, PDCC Courses, Ph.D and Nursing Courses and 25 years for Diploma courses, relaxable by 5 years for ex-service personnel with a service of not less than 5 years, SC/ST and sponsored candidates. Two candidates can be admitted as SPONSORED, in addition to the usual number of seats, for each course, if sponsored by Government / Governmental agencies or Universities.

Candidates with more than two failures in the University or equivalent examinations are not eligible for admission. Admission will be based on the previous academic record of the candidates and their performance in the selection tests to be held in the Institute during November 2009.

All scholars will be provided with accommodation subject to availability of rooms in the hostel.

Prescribed forms for Application and Prospectus can be obtained by a written request accompanied by a Bank Draft for Rs.600/- drawn in favour of SCTIMST, Trivandrum, in case of Doctoral, M.P.H and Ph.D Programmes and a bank draft for Rs.250/ for other programmes. The request should contain the name and address of the candidate, course to which admission is sought and details of the Demand Draft. Application forms are NON - TRANSFERABLE. Eligibility
Candidates should have
1. A Master's Degree in any discipline, (10+2+3+2 pattern) with at least 55 percent marks.

2. A professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS, with at least 55 percent marks .

3. A 4 year / 8 - semester Bachelor's degree (10+2+4 pattern) with at least 60 percent marks.

IIMB encourage candidates to submit valid test scores from either CAT (2009), or GRE/ /GMAT/GATE/JRF/SRF/NET. But will also accept applications without any test score. Candidates taking the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) must have the official result reported to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). The GRE code number for IIMB Fellow Programme in Management is 7385.

Selection
Suitable candidates will be called to Bangalore for a Research Aptitude Test (RAT) and interview for final selection. Selection will be based on applicant's performance in CAT/ GRE/ /GMAT/GATE/JRF/SRF/NET as applicable, past academic performance, work experience, and aptitude for research.

Combined Medical Services Examination- 2010



The Union Public Service Commission will hold the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2010 on 17th January, 2010. The examination will be held at various centres across the country.

Salient features about the examination are published herein for general information of candidates. For details regarding Eligibility Conditions, Syllabus and Scheme of the Examination, Centres of Examination, Guidelines for filling up the Application Form etc. aspirants must consult the detailed Notice of the examination published in the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar dated 5th September, 2009.

Eligibility:
Age Limits
Must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st January, 2010.

The upper age limit is relaxable for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes/Physically Handicapped and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the Notice.

Educational Qualifications:
A candidate must have passed the written and practical parts of final MBBS Examination.
How To Apply:

Candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix-Ill of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs.20/- (Rupees twenty only). Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

In case of any difficulty in obtaining the Application Forms from the designated HPOs/POs the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC "Form Supply Monitoring Cell" over Telephone No.011-23389366/FAX No.011-23387310.


Fees:-
Rs 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. All Female Candidates and SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from payment of fees (OBC candidates are required to pay full fee).
