Monash University – Doctoral Scholarship Program 2010

The China Scholarship Council and and Monash University have established a collaborative scholarship program so that high quality Chinese students may undertake a PhD or master of philosophy/research masters degree leading to a doctoral degree at Monash . Long-term research co-operation between Monash University and Chinese universities is a further aim of the program.

A number of candidates each year will be awarded scholarships that cover tuition fees and provide a living allowance for up to three years in the first instance. Scholarship allowances also meet overseas student health cover (OSHC), visa application fees and the cost of a return international air fare between Australia and China.

The Research Graduate School Committee has determined that the stipend provided by the China Scholarship Council, which is substantially lower than the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) rate, is unlikely to be sufficient to cover living expenses in Australia. Applicants may need to have an additional source of funds.

Areas of Research: Currently, the priority areas for these scholarships are:
1. Energy
2. Resources
3. Environment
4. Agriculture
5. Manufacturing
6. Information Technology
7. Life Sciences
8. Space
9. Oceans
10. Nanotechnology
11. Advanced Materials and Social Sciences

Be citizens and permanent residents of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) at the time of application. Be not more than 35 years of age. Be from one of the selected 60 Chinese Universities from the CSC – Monash program. Not be currently working or studying abroad. Return to the PRC upon completion of their research degree program at Monash University.

Meet academic entry requirements for admission to a PhD or MPhil program at Monash University, including English language proficiency requirements. Applicants must hold H1 equivalent qualifications. Contact relevant faculties for research masters eligibility and English language proficiency requirements. Intend to undertake research in one of the priority research areas identified by Monash University and the CSC.

Application Procedures:
. Intending applicants should contact their university in China for information about the CSC Scholarship program
. Applicants are then required to submit an application for PhD, MPhil and/or research masters candidature to Monash University
. Applicants must also complete and submit an on-line application for funding to CSC.
. Following assessment of applications for candidature, Monash University will provide a ranked list of suitable candidates, together with each ranked applicant’s offer of admission to candidature, to CSC
. CSC will evaluate listed candidates in accordance with the Council’s eligibility criteria.
. The final list of successful scholarship awardees will be jointly approved by CSC and Monash University.

Application Deadline: 31st May, 2010.
