National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2010



NDA Entrance examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 22 August 2010, for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 126th course and Naval Academy for the 88th Indian Naval Academy course (INAC) commencing from 30th June 2011.

The candidates joining Indian Naval Academy would undergo 4 years B.Tech course and would also be given an opportunity to join Technical Branch of the Navy subject to availability of vacancies. The approximate number of vacancies to be filled on the results of this examination will be 335 (195 for the Army, 39 for Navy, 66 for the Air Force and 35 for the Executive branch of Naval Academy).

Vacancies are provisional and may be changed depending on the availability of training capacity of National Defence Academy.

A candidate is required to specify clearly in the application form the services for which he wishes to be considered in the order of his preference. He is also advised to indicate as many preferences as he wishes to opt so that having regard to his rank in the order of merit due consideration can be given to his preferences when making appointments.

Conditions of Eligibility
Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status : "Only unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd July 1992 and not later than 01st January, 1995 are eligible".

The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognised by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University which must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificates. These certificates are required to be submitted only after the declaration of the result of the written part of the examination. No other document relating to age like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporation, service records and the like will be accepted. The expression Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examination Certificate in this part of the instruction includes the alternative certificates mentioned above.

Educational Qualifications :

(i) For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equilvalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.


Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent exmination can also apply for this examination.

SUCH CANDIDATES WHO QUALIFY THE SSB INTERVIEW BUT COULD NOT PRODUCE MATRICULATION/10+2 OR EQUIVALENT CERTIFICATES IN ORIGINAL AT THE TIME OF SSB INTERVIEW SHOULD FORWARD THE CERTIFICATES ALONG WITH PHOTO COPIES THEREOF TO 'ADDL DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF RECRUITING, ARMY HQ, WEST BLOCK-III, R.K.PURAM, NEW DELHI-110 066' AND FOR NAVAL ACADEMY CANDIDATES TO NAVAL 'HEADQUARTERS,DMPR (R&R) SECTION, ROOM NO 204, 'C' WING, SENA BHAWAN, NEW DELHI - 110 011' BY 10th June, 2011 FAILING WHICH THEIR CANDIDATURE WILL BE CANCELLED. ALL OTHER CANDIDATES WHO HAVE PRODUCE THEIR MATRICULATION AND 10+2 PASS OR EQUIVALENT CERTIFICATES IN ORIGINAL AT THE TIME OF ATTENDING THE SSB INTERVIEW AND HAVE GOT THE SAME VERIFIED BY THE SSB AUTHORITIES ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE SAME TO ARMY HQ OR NAVAL HQ AS THE CASE MAY BE. Certificates in original issued by the Principals of the institutions are also acceptable in cases where Boards/Universities have not yet issued certificates. Certified true copies/Photostat copies of such certificates will not be accepted.

In exceptional cases the Commission may treat a candidate, who does not possess any of the qualifications prescribed in this rule as educationally qualified provided that he possesses qualifications, the standard of which in the opinion of the Commission, justifies his admission to the examination.

Note 1 : Candidates appearing in the 11th class exam are not eligible for this examination.

Note 2 : Those candidates who have yet to qualify in the 12th class or equivalent examination and are allowed to appear in the UPSC Examination should note that this is only a special concession given to them. They are required to submit proof of passing the 12th class or equivalent examination by the prescribed date (i.e. 10th June 2011) and no request for extending this date will be entertained on the grounds of late conduct of Board/University Examination, delay in declaration of results or any other ground whatsoever.

Note 3 : Candidates who are debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any type of commission in the Defence Services shall not be eligible for admission to the examination and if admitted, their candidature will be cancelled.

Note 4 : Those candidates who have failed INSB/PABT earlier are not eligible for Air Force.

(d) Physical Standards :

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2010 as per guidelines given in Appendix-V.

(e) A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academics of Armed Forces is not eligible to apply.


NDA Application Form
How to Apply:

(a) The UPSC have developed an application form common for all their examinations which can be processed on computerised machines. This application form alongwith an Information Brochure containing general instructions for filling up the form, an acknowledgement card and an envelope for sending the application will be obtainable from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices throughout the country as listed in Appendix-III of Notice against cash payment of Rs. 20/- (Rupees twenty only). Form should be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices only and not from any other agency. This form can be used only once and for only one examination. Candidates must use the form supplied with the Information Brochure only and they should in no case use photocopy/reproduction/unauthorisedly printed copy of the Form. Since this form is electronically scanned, due care should be taken to fill up the application form, correctly. While filling up the application form, please refer to detailed instructions given in Appendix-II of this Notice. The candidates should also fill up in the relevant places of the Acknowledgement Card, their Application Form Number (8-digit) and the name of the examination. The applicants are required to affix the postage stamp of Rs. Six on the Acknowledgement Card and send the same along with application form to UPSC. If an applicant fails to affix the postage stamp of requisite amount his acknowledgement card will not be dispatched and Commission will not be responsible for non-receipt of acknowledgement cards by the applicant. The duly filled in application form and the acknowledgement card should then be mailed in the special envelope supplied with the Information Brochure. The candidate should also write the name of examination viz. “National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination-(I), 2010” on the envelope before despatching it to “Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069”. Candidates should mention their Tele/Fax Nos.

(b) All candidates whether already in Govt. service, Government owned industrial undertakings or other similar organisations or private employment should submit their application direct to the Commission. If any candidate forwards his application through his employer and it reaches the Union Public Service Commission late, the application, even if submitted to the employer before the closing date, will not be considered. Persons already in Government service whether in a permanent or temporary capacity or as work charged employees other than casual or daily rated employees or those serving under the Public Enterprises are however, required to submit an undertaking that they have informed in writing their Head of Office/Department that they have applied for this Examination.

Candidates should note that applications will be received by hand, only one at a time, at the designated counter(s) and not in bulk, till 5 p.m. only

However, in respect of candidates residing abroad or in certain remote localities the last date for receipt of application by post/speed post only (not by hand or by courier) is 26th April, 2010

Through online: The online applications can be filled up to 12th April 2010 till 11.59 p.m. after which the link will be disabled.

The centres and the date of holding the examination as mentioned above are liable to be changed at the discretion of the commission. While every effort will be made to allot the candidates to the centre of their choice for examination, the commission may, at their discretion, allot a different centre to a candidate, when circumstances so warrant. Candidates admitted to the examination will be informed of the time table and place or places of examination.

Candidates should note that no request for change of centre will normally be granted. When a candidate, however, desires a change in centre from the one he had indicated in his application form for the examination, he must send a letter addressed to the secretary, UPSC, giving full justification as to why he desires a change in centre. Such requests will be considered on merits but requests received after 19th May, 2010 will not be entertained under any circumstances

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) (A Deemed University with NAAC Accreditation A++) invites applications for admission to the External Ph.D. Programme (Development Studies) :


Eligibility: (a) Minimum qualification: M.A./M.Sc in Economics/M.Stat./M.Sc. (Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Environmental Science or Operations Research)/M.B.A./M.Tech./M.E./ B.Tech./B.E. or equivalent with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary level or should be able to demonstrate equivalent mathematical ability.

(b) The applicants ought to have a minimum of three years of work experience and they need to apply with the 'No Objection Certificate' along with leave authorization on the official letterhead of the Organization duly signed by the authorized official of the Organization. (c) Applicants be preferably below 45 years of age; it can be relaxed in case of exceptional candidates.

How to Apply: Candidates should apply not later than April 30, 2010 with (a) their current curriculum vita, (b) two, passport size photographs, (c) two reference letters (in sealed envelopes and on official letterheads of the issuing authority), (d) No objection Certificate along with leave authorization on the official letterhead of the Organization duly signed by the authorized official of the Organization. (e) a self certified original research proposal not exceeding 3000 words, (f) research publications (if any) and (g) a bank draft of Rs. 200 (non-refundable) payable to Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) at Mumbai to the "Admissions Office, IGIDR, Gen. Selection Procedure: Candidates have to apply with all the documents specified in Paragraph (2). Based on these, short listed candidates will be called for the interview around the first week of July 2010. Second class return rail fare by the shortest route from the place of residence will be paid to the candidates interviewed. The decision of the selection committee will be final.

Reservation: Reservation of seats for SC/ST/Physically disabled categories will be as per the Government of India rules. Such applicants need not submit any application fee but are required to enclose a copy of the Caste Certificate/Medical certificate (as the case may be) along with their application. They are however, not exempt from submitting all the documents referred to in paragraph 2.

B Tech (Information and Communication Technology) program.

Admission to the 2010 Batch of B Tech (ICT) program will be based on the All India Rank of AIEEE 2010 (All India Engineering Entrance Examination 2010), which is being conducted by CBSE on 25 April 2010. Therefore, only candidates who are appearing for AIEEE 2010 can apply for this program of DA-IICT.

A limited number of seats will be offered through a separate channel called ‘Direct Admission of Foreign and NRI Students’ (DAFS) to Non-Resident Indians, Foreign Nationals and Persons of Indian Origin. Eligibility
The minimum academic qualification for admission is a pass in the 12th standard or its equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Computer Science. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in 2010 are also eligible to apply for consideration of provisional admission. All candidates who are offered provisional admission will be required to produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination (12th standard or equivalent) to the Institute latest by 30 October 2010, failing which such provisional admission will stand cancelled. If a candidate is found ineligible at a later date, even after admission to DA-IICT, his/her admission will be cancelled. All admissions will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents of the candidates. The decision of the concerned authorities of DA-IICT regarding eligibility of any candidate shall be final.

A list of qualifying examinations is given below:
1. The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Education, including Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
2. Intermediate Science or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognised Board/University.
3. Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
4. General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
5. High School Certificate Examination of Cambridge University.
6. Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
7. H.S.C. Vocational Examination.
8. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
9. Three or four-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

Date of Birth
Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 01 October 1985 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the 10th or 12th standard certificate, as issued by the Board/University only, will be taken as authentic. Candidates must produce this certificate in original as proof of their age at the time of counselling.

Submission of Application Form
A candidate has to apply in the prescribed DA-IICT Application Form. A photocopy of the AIEEE 2010 Admit Card is also required to be enclosed with the completed DA-IICT Application Form and sent to the Institute in the envelope provided for the purpose. Eligibility

Eligibility
A graduate with a minimum of 60% marks in their qualifying degree examination may apply. Candidates appearing in their final degree examination and expecting to complete it by July 2010 may also apply subject to the condition that they obtain the 60% cumulative record after final examination and submit the provisional degree certificate or any other proof of the completion of degree certificate before 30 October 2010 to the Institute. The students must have at least two courses of Mathematics or Statistics in their undergraduate curriculum and must have completed at least one course on computer science.

M.Sc. (ICT in Agriculture and Rural Development)

Eligibility
A graduate in any of the disciplines mentioned below with a minimum of 15 years (10 + 2 + 3) of formal education and one year of full-time work experience or with a four-year professional degree (without work experience) is eligible to apply: Agriculture & Allied Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Bio-Sciences and Engineering, Fisheries, Forestry, Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer Applications, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Science/Technology.

Master in Design (Communication Design) – M Des

Eligibility for the program
• This is an intensive and innovative program that demands motivated students.

• The program is suitable for students who have a technology background but seek a cultural and artistic orientation to become successful communicators, as well as students who have training in fields other than science and technology but aspire to gain some technological skills to become more creative and effective communicators.

• A candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree from any statutory university or equivalent.

• Applicants from fields of Technology, Science, Humanities, Social Science, Applied Arts, and Performing Arts are eligible for this interdisciplinary program

• Candidates must have minimum of 55% marks or CPI of 6.0/10.0 in the qualifying degree examination.

• Individuals who have work experience are also encouraged to apply for the program.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Eligibility
A. Candidates willing to pursue research in the ICT and related domain must possess a degree in:

M Tech / ME in: Information and Communication Technology related areas such as ICT, CS, IT, CT, EC, ECE, EE, Telecommunications, Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and allied disciplines.
Or
B Tech / BE / MSc in: Information and Communication Technology related areas such as ICT, CS, IT, CT, EC, ECE, EE, Telecommunication, Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and allied disciplines.
Or
MS /MSc degree of DA-IICT and MCA.
Candidate interested in pursuing PhD in ICT and related areas must have at least 60% marks in the qualifying degree.
B. Candidates with M Phil in the field of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Sciences and interested in these areas must have an M Phil degree in the desired area with at least 60% marks.:

Candidates with an MSc degree (or MS Degree of DA-IICT), unless they have a subsequent M Phil degree, will be considered equivalent to candidates with a B Tech / BE degree and will need to fulfill additional course and research requirements.

Selection Process
• Admission to M Tech (ICT) program will be based on valid GATE score.
• Selection of candidates for admission to M. Sc. (IT) program will be based on an all-India Entrance Test to be conducted at : Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Mumbai, Jaipur, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, Kolkata.
• Admission to M. Sc. (ICT in ARD) program will be based on an all-India Entrance Test to be conducted at: Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Mumbai, Jaipur, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, Kolkata, followed by an interview at DA-IICT, Gandhinagar

• Applications to the PG programs are preferably to be made online.
• Application form can also be downloaded from the website and sent by post.
