Petroleum Engineering: A 4-year B.Tech/B.E. degree in Petroleum, Petro-Chemical, Production, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.

GATE score basis: Shortlisted candidates based on their GATE scores will be called for a written test followed by an interview. Final selection list will be made on the scores obtained in the written test and interview aggregately.


Company sponsorship basis: GATE score is not required. These candidates must appear for a written test followed by an interview. Such candidates will not be eligible for M.Tech. fellowship. Candidate should have worked for the sponsoring organization for at least one year.

Admission Categories

Regular Candidate: Full Time residential candidate

Sponsored Category: The candidates under this category may not necessarily require GATE/CSIR-NET
These candidates must appear for a written test followed by an interview

Such candidates will not be eligible for institute fellowship

Candidates should have worked for the sponsoring organization for at least two years immediately preceding the date of application

Candidates serving in teaching or research institution, government or industry may furnish their employers consent (Annexure-1) at the time of interview

Financial Support: Students joining the Ph.D program as regular candidates will be considered for institute fellowship based on the following norms

Students with M.Tech/M.E./MBA or equivalent degrees will be considered for monthly assistantships of Rs 20000/- for 3 years

Extension of time beyond 3 years (with or without assistantship) will be considered on a case to case basis

Candidate should have cleared GATE/NET as applicable to the specific discipline before or after master’s degree

Students with M.Sc/M.Com/M.A. degrees or equivalent, who have qualified GATE or National Level test (UGC/CSIR/NBHM etc) will be considered for monthly assistantship of Rs 18000/- for 3 years

Extension of time beyond 3 years (with or without assistantship) will be considered on a case to case basis
