Admission to M.Tech and MCP 2008-2009

Applications are invited for admission to the four semester Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Master of City Planning (MCP) programmes in the following disciplines:
Aerospace Engg; Agricultural & Food Engg; Architecture and Regional Planning; Biotechnology; Chemical Engg; Civil Engg; Computer Science & Engg; Educational Technology; Electrical Engg; Electronics & Electrical Communication Engg; Ecology & Geophysics; Humanities & Social Sciences; Industrial Engg. & Management; Information Technology, Mathematics; Mechanical Engg; Medical Science & Technology; Metallurgical & Materials Engg; Mining Engg; Ocean Engg. & Naval Architecture; Ocean, Rovers, Atmosphere & Land Sciences; Physics & Meteorology; Cryogenic Engg; Materials Science; Reliability Engg; Rubber Technology.

Note: Some new M.Tech Programmes in emerging areas of technology are likely to be introduced during the academic session 2008-2009. Details of these new programmes will be made available at http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/mtech in due course.

ELIGIBILITY:
B.Tech/BE/B.Arch/B.Pharm/M.Sc or equivalent degree with a valid GATE score. Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and persons with disability as per Govt. of India rules. Reservations for OBC candidates should be implemented as and when government orders for the same are issued.

SELELCTION:
Except for sponsored candidates, selection is strictly based on GATE score. However, applicants with professional qualifications, those with XE/XL paper in GATE, and sponsored candidates who are short-listed need to qualify through an interview and/or a test.

ASSISTANCESHIP:
Rs.5000/- per month for candidates selected through GATE.

APPLICATION FEE: The application fee is Rs.300/- (Rs.150 for SC/ST Candidates).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application for M.Tech/MCP programmes is to be submitted only by an ONLINE process (internet based) by accessing the website: http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/mtech from 27th March, 2008 to 27th April 2008. The candidate should first pay the Application Fee by obtaining a Demand Draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur on any nationalized bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal. The draft details are required while filling up the ONLINE application form. Candidates are required to take a print of the ONLINE application form after successful submission of data. The printed form, with candidate’s signature and photograph pasted at appropriate place, and the Demand Draft must be sent by speed post so as to reach by 30 April 2008 to The Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur – 721302.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Commencement of Online Application Form submission: 27 March 2008 (Thursday)
Last Date for submission of online Application Form (Website Closure): 27 April 2008 (Sunday)
Last Date for receipt of completed online Application Form at the GATE Office: 30 April 2008 (Wednesday)
