Doctoral Programme 2008 (Focused on Energy Sector) from INSTITUTE OF PETROLEUM MANAGEMENT
Doctoral Programme 2008 (Focused on Energy Sector)
Doctoral Programme of IPMG
The purpose of the Doctoral Programme of IPMG is to train prospective scholars to become highly skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in various aspects of management related to the energy sector. It primarily aims at preparing students for careers as faculty members at premier academic institutions.
Course Structure: The Doctoral Programme would ordinarily demand four years of full-time requirements in two stages. In the first stage, the selected candidate needs to meet the course requirements over two years. The first year course requirements can be waived in certain cases and on a selective basis. During this stage, the student is given appropriate exposure to the basic discipline of management, thus preparing him/her for the thesis work in the next stage. The course work that will be undertaken by the student in the first year will be from among those courses that are offered to the PGP students, and in the second year will include specially designed courses. Each student is placed under the guidance of a Faculty Advisory Committee after considering his or her field of interest.
On successful completion of the course requirement, the student has to qualify in two comprehensive examinations (one written and another oral) before taking up the thesis work.
The thesis stage is normally of two years.
Fellowship: Fellow students are awarded a fellowship of Rs.15,000/- per month, and no fees (admission, tuition, course material, computer, or library) will be charged. Fellowship will be paid only to fulltime residential students for a maximum period of four years, which may be extended by six months on the recommendation of the thesis adviser. After comprehensive a student may be allowed to provide limited Research and Teaching Assistance (RTA), which will be remunerated.
A fellow student is entitled to a contingency grant of Rs.10,000 per annum during the first two years and a grant of Rs.20,000 per annum during the third and fourth years.
Conferences and International Exposure: This Institute provides support for attending National and International conferences. A fellow student will be reimbursed all related expenses up to Rs. 1,00,000 during the entire duration of the program.
Selection Procedure : Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the Institute will be called for a test / interview. Selection will be based on the previous academic performance and marks secured in the test / interview.
Minimum Academic Qualifications Required for Admission : Master's degree in Management/ Engineering/ Sciences / Social Sciences / Commerce and Humanities subjects with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent (CGPA 6.5 ) or a Bacheolor’s Degree in Engineering with a first class and adequate work experience with a valid CAT/GMAT score.
Admission of PGDM (Oil & Gas):
Candidates who have qualified for the award of PGDM (Oil & Gas) with exceptionally good academic record in the prescribed disciplines will be considered for direct admission to doctoral program subject to the following conditions :
If the Candidate happens to be a PGDM diploma holder from IPMG, he/she should have qualified for the diploma in the top 25%.
In the case of MBA’s or PGDM diploma holders with specialization in Oil and Gas or Energy from an University or deemed University, he/she should have qualified for the degree among the top 10 rank holders of the University.
Full-time candidates alone are eligible to be considered for such direct admission.
Admission of International Students:
Candidates of foreign nationality holding Degrees from Indian Universities seeking admission to doctoral program need the necessary clearance from the Government of India in the Ministry of Human Resource Development and should possess valid Research Visa. They will be treated on par with Indian nationals for purposes of admission to the Institute. Candidates of foreign nationality with Degrees from Foreign Universities seeking admission to the Institute will be treated differently and the case of each candidate will be examined and decided purely on merit. They should fulfill the eligible qualification requirement as applicable to regular students in addition to GMAT and TOEFL requirements.
