EIGHTH POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA COURSE IN PRINT JOURNALISM

Training tomorrow’s Journalists

MASCOM invites applications for its eighth one-year postgraduate Diploma course in Print Journalism. Requests for the Prospectus and Application Form should be accompanied by a dd of Rs.500 in favour of MASCOM, payable at Kottayam, Kerala. The deadline for receiving completed applications is April 25, 2009. The course will begin in June 2009, and end in May 2010.

Candidates with a bachelors degree in any discipline and those awaiting degree results may apply. Selection is based on an entrance examination to be held at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bangalore various centres in Kerala and in Dubai(UAE) on May 9, 2009, and an interview at MASCOM in Kottayam in June, 2009.

MASCOM, launched on August 17, 2002, by the 121 year old Malayala Manorama group, is an acknowledged centre of excellence for journalism training in India. The course introduces students to state-of-the-art journalism through meticulously designed training modules, which ensure the students receive a well-rounded education in journalism and current events.

During the course the students will dissect and analyse news, bring out about 25 issues of their weekly lab newspaper, undertake overnight news-gathering field-trips and interview leading academic, political and media personalities. They will acquire advanced skills in reporting, editing, speedwriting and computer software. They are also exposed to the state-of-the-art technology and communication systems employed at Malayala Manorama. The students are provided with personal computers with 24 hour dedicated internet connectivity and a telephone with STD facility for newsgathering.

MASCOM’s in-house instructors, both Indian and from abroad, are experienced journalist-teachers who have got national and international exposure. Assisting the core faculty is a panel of acknowledged experts in their chosen fields.

Most MASCOM graduates are working in various capacities in national and regional media houses across the country.

MACOM will help provide admitted students with comfortable, furnished quarters and the MASCOM canteen offers meals at subsidized rates.

The medium of instruction at MASCOM is English, but students are free to choose between English and Malayalam streams for specialization. For students aspiring to a career in English or Malayalam journalism, MASCOM training will give them a headstart in the profession.
