ADMISSION NOTICE - 2008National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation & Museology (NMIHACM) is a University under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, which is located at the National Museum, New Delhi. The University offers specialized courses in History of Art, Conservation & Restoration of Works of Art, and Museology leading to the award of M.A. and Ph.D degrees. It also awards 08 Merit Scholarships each @ Rs.20,000/- per semester and 8 Merit-cum-Means Scholarships each @ Rs.12,000/- per annum.Applications on prescribed form are invited from eligible candidates for admission to M.A. and Ph.D. courses for the Academic session starting July 2008 as per the following eligibility criteria:M.A.(History of Art): Seats 25A Graduate degree from a recognized University. Good academic record with minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade at the graduate level.Desirable: - A background in Social Sciences, Liberal Arts or Fine Arts.M.A. (Conservation): Seats 15A Graduate Degree in any of the following subjects - Chemistry/Physics/ Geology/ Botany/ Zoology/ Computer Science/ Fine Arts/ History/ History of Art/ Architecture/ Archaeology/ Museology/ Designing or Diploma recognized as equivalent to graduate degree in any of these fields.M.A. (Museology): Seats 15B.A./B.Sc. (Honours) or B.A./ B.Sc./ B.F.A.( 3 years) in any discipline under Humanities and Social Sciences.Desirable: A background/PG Diploma in subjects related to History of Art and Museum studies.Ph.D.(History of Art): Seats 4Any person holding a Master's Degree in History of Arts from this Institute or Master Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University/ deemed University in History of Arts / History/ Archaeology/ Anthropology/ Aesthetics, may apply for admission.Ph.D. (Conservation): Seats 4Any person holding a Master's Degree in Conservation from this Institute or Master Degree in Chemistry/ Physics/ Life Sciences/ Museology/ Archaeology or its equivalent of a recognized University or a deemed University, may apply for admission.Ph.D. (Museology): Seats 4Any person holding a Master's Degree in Museology from this Institute or Master Degree in Museology/ History/ Ancient Indian History & Archaeology or its equivalent of a recognized University or a deemed University, may apply for admission.Desirable Qualifications:Knowledge of one classical/ foreign language such as Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian etc.NB:i) Good Academic record with 50% and above marks at Graduate level is essential for admission to M.A. courses and 55% & above marks at Post-graduate level for admission to Ph.D. courses.ii) Candidates seeking admission to M.A. courses, will have to pass a written examination followed by interview.iii) For admission to Ph.D. courses, in-service personnel working with Central Government/ Autonomous organization/ Universities funded by Central or State Government/ NGOs with at least 5 years regular service, having the above required qualification, will also be eligible to apply and will be given preference.iv) The Information Brochure can be had from the office of the Institute on payment of Rs.200/- (Rupees Two hundred only) in cash or Rs.250/- in the form of crossed Demand Draft payable to “NMIHACM” on any Nationalized Bank in New Delhi, if needed by post. The application on the prescribed form (annexed with the Information Brochure), duly completed & supported by required copies of Certificates, should reach to the Assistant Registrar (Academic) by 10th June, 2008.v) Relaxation & reservation in percentage & seats for the notified categories will be available as per Government of India orders.
