PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT (PCCMHA)
A Course initiated under UK India Educational Research Initiative (UKIBRI) grants by the Biritish Council, UK. under the collaboartive Delivery Award in the year 2007
INTRODUCTION:
Mental health problems in all societies are on the rise. The global WHO study (2001) demonstrated that at least 20% of all consumers at the primary care le el have some mental disorder, and mot of these patients do not receive treatment for mental disorder, According to Government of Gujarat Mental Health Care Policy, 2005, it is estimated that there are 2.8 million adults with common and servere mental disorder at any point in time in Gujarat. To bridge the glaring gap between the need and the available care in existing health framework, some of the specific challenges that demand urgent attention from mental health sector include:
Shortage of trained human resource
Inadequate training capacity
The present course is an effort towards capacity building in mental health.
WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH AND ASSESSMENT?
Mental Health is a tearm used to describe either a level of cognitive or emotional wellbeing or an absence of a mental disorder. This inlcudes an individual's ability to enjoy life and achievce a balance between life activiteis and efforts to achieve psychological resilience.
Mental Health Assessment gives the treating clinician an overall picture of how well a client feels emotionally and how well the persion is able to think, reason, and remember (cognitive functioning).
PATTERN OF COURSE DELIVERY:
Course will be conducted 3 times a year (Nov, Feb, July)
Complete duration of the course is 2 and half months (10 weeks)
Combined examination for all batches
6 days contact teaching with lectures and tutorials and fieldwork using workshop methodology.
2 home assignments, 3000 words each, 8 week literature based project, case report or equivalent.
2 days summary and completion (including feedback on essays, supervision).
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Graduate inany discipline with English Language as one of the subject in any year and with an interest in the field of Mental Health.

Registration fee can be sent along with the filled in registration form and DD (drawn in favour of Director, UKIERI collaborative Delivery Award) for the prescribed amount to Mr. Hamza Ali Baldiwala, Project Coordinator, Department of Psychology, The M.S.University of Baroda, Vadodara 390002 (Gujarat) India.
Note: Registration is open for 30 seats per batch, ona first come first served basis.
Course Timing: 9.am to 6.pm (Mon to Sat.)
Course Structure:
30 UK Creidt Module, it will be delivered in 3 parts
1st Part: Lectures and tutorials/ workshops
Duration: One week
2nd Part: 2 home assignments, 300 works each, lliterature based, case reprot or equivalent.
Duration: Eight weeks
3rd Part: Summary and Completion (including viva voce on essays, supervision)
Duration: Two days
Course Content:
Course will cover an Introduction to Mental Health and Mental Disorders
Some Common Mental Health Disorders
Procedures for Mental Health Screening / assessment.
Immediate Care for Mental Health Problems.
Ethical / Legal responsibilities of Mental Health Workers.
ACCESS TO LIBRARY/ RESOURCES AND REFERENCES:
Students will be provided with an ID to access E Resources of Roehamption University.
EXAMINATION PATTERN:
This module will be assessed thorugh two viva voce basesd on assignments consisting of two essays prepared during the 3 week literature based project.
CERTIFICATION:
Certificate will be awarded by Roehamption University, London.
The Last date of registration will be 3 weeks before the commencement of the course
