Two ESRC scholarships linked to the White Rose East Asia Centre are available in 2010. Closing date for applications is 12 March 2010.
The first, which will be based at the University of Sheffield is for a 3 year study programme leading to a PhD in a topic related to Japan and using Japanese language source materials.
The second, for two years of study at MA level focused on China. This could be two taught MA programmes, or a taught MA folllowed by an MA by research. While there is no requirement to have previoulsy studied Chinese, students will be expected to have developed an effective working knowledege of Chinese by the end of the two year programme. Beginners in Chinese will be advised to take the MA Chinese (language) followed by the MA in Chinese Business and the Asia Pacific or an MA by research. Applicants whose first degree is in Chinese might be interested in taking the MA Chinese Studies, MA Chinese Business of MA Advanced Chinese Studies (focusing on language) followed by an MA by Research. How To Apply: After being accepted by either the universities of Sheffield or Leeds, UK resident applicants, which the funding council defines as people with three years of residency in Great Britain prior to beginning their studies, should submit a CV, research proposal and completed application form to the WREAC Office by the deadline of 12 March to apply for a WREAC scholarship.
