Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is an autonomous research organization under Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, undertaking advance level ofresearch in all aspects of the geology and geodynamics of the Himalaya. It has strong specialization in the areas of Petrology and Geochemistry, Structure and Tectonics,Sedimentology, Geomorphology, Glaciology, Magnetostratigraphy, Biostratigraphy, Quaternary Geology, Environment Geology, Seismology and Geophysics. The Institutealso houses modern analytical laboratories. To encourage young students/researchers to make career in earth sciences, the Institute has doctoral program and offers Research Associateships to fresh Ph.D. To promote research in emerging areas of earth sciences, the Institute also undertakes sponsored projects.
The Institute invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for the following positions:
1. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: 3 (three)
Remuneration: Rs.11,000/- p.m. consolidated plus 7.5 % ( H.R.A )Sufficient supporting contingent grant for field work etc. will be provided. Age Limit : Not exceeding 35 years as on 30.01.2008.
Essential Qualification: Ph. D. degree in Geology/Geophysics in any emerging areas of Earth Sciences. The candidates about to submit thesis for Ph.D degree and having three years of proven research experience will also be considered. The selected candidates are expected to persue research at Post-doctoral level. The candidates with experience in the field of structural geology/metamorphic petrology/Sedim-entology/AMS/Seismology will be given preference.
Tenure of appointment: The appointment will be initially for three years, extended annually based upon the performance and review of work. Only in very exceptional cases,the tenure of appointment can be extended beyond the initial period by maximum two years.
2.JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW: ( 6 )Scholarship : Rs. 8,000/- p.m. consolidated plus 7.5% (H.R.A) during the first and second year and Rs.9,000/- p.m. consolidated plus 7.5 % (H.R.A) during subsequent years, subject to satisfactory performance. Sufficient supporting contingent grant for field work etc. be provided. Age Limit: Not exceeding 28 years as on 30.01.2008.
Essential Qualification: 1s class M.Sc./M.Tech. degree in Geology/Geophy-sics or allied subject with consistently good academic record. Candidates who have clearedNET/GATE, UGC-CSIR combined examination will be given preference. NET/GATE qualified candidates MUST attach an attested photocopy of NET/GATE qualifications will have to appear in a written test at the Institute in Dehradun and those who qulify in the written examination will only be called for an interview. Candidates with Maths at graduation level will be given preference.
Tenure of Scholarship: The scholarship will be initially for a period of three years. Continuance during this period of three years will depend on satisfactory performance. Thereafter likely to be extended for one or more years depending upon the performance and review of work. The selected candidates may be allowed to register for Ph.D after successful completion of training.
NOTE: (i) The qualifications and experience mentioned are the minimum requirements. The Institute reserves the right to short list the candidates based on their qualifications and experience. (ii) The number of posts mentioned above can increase. The Institute reserves the right not to fill any ;position if suitable candidates are not available. The Institute reserves the right to prepare a panel of candidates and fill the posts falling vacant during the validity of the panel out of the candidates in the panel.(iii) Maximum 5 (five) years of age relaxation for the candidates belonging to the SC/ST category or for physically handicapped persons and 3 (three) years age relaxation for the candidates of OBC category will be allowed. Three years age relaxation to the Government sponsored project employees working in the Institute, will be allowed.(iv) To and fro 2nd class sleeper train fare/ordinary bus fare by the shortest route will be paid to the outstation candidates for attending the test/interview. (v) The Institute reserves the right to relax experience and age in case of exceptionally qualified and meritorious candidates. The Institute also reserves the right to relax age or qualification in case of exceptionally qualified or experienced deserving candidates.
