The Institute offers the following three long-term programmes
1. Post Graduate Diploma in Textile Management (PGDTM)
A two year full time course is designed to offer core management learning for textile professionals. Addressing the growing complexity and competition of textile business, this program provides the right synergy of echnology and management aligned to the specific needs of textile industry. The course runs through four semesters. The first two semesters comprises of fundamental management training with specific application in textile industry.
This is complemented with industrial interaction, seminars, projects etc. to develop and enhance the latent skills of the students. A summer project between the second and third semester provides needed practical exposure to Industry and its functioning. The third semester takes the student through the advance areas of textile industry management. In the fourth and final semester students specialize in the functional areas and conduct an extensive industry based project. This provides the finishing touch in a way of thorough knowledge and understanding in specific domain.

Eligibility : Degree in any discipline (Preference for Textile graduates)*
* For Non Engineering / Non Textile graduates two years of work experience in textile related industry is required.
Selection Method : The candidates will be short-listed based on the MAT /SVPITM entrance score for the group discussion (GD) and personal interview. The marks / grades obtained inthe qualifying examination will also be considered for the selection. SVPITM entrance test will be held on the date of GD .
Reservation : As per Government of India rules

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Apparel Management (PGDAM)
The two-year full time course is oriented to the needs of fast growing apparel industry covering knitting and garment clusters in the country. Creating a cadre of specialized professionals with technical and managerial knowledge is the gist of this course. The course runs through four semesters. The first two semesters comprises of fundamental management training with specific application in textile industry. This is complemented with industrial interaction, seminars, projects etc. to develop and enhance the latent skills of the students. 3. Post Diploma in Home Textile Management (PDHTM)
The emerging International and Domestic Home Textiles market and India’s abundant potential in the area, emphasizes the requirement of specialists in growing numbers. The one-year full time course is an ideal platform for those aspiring for a career in the home textile sector. In two modules, the course equips the students with extensive knowledge of the Home Textile Industry and Market. Core teaching of textiles, made-ups and management augmented with in plant and field trainings and projects in production and other areas of Home Textile Industry, develops a strong cadre of Home Textile specialists ready to take on the world.

Eligibility : Diploma or Degree in Textile Technology / Textile Engineering / Handloom Technology / Diploma or Degree in Textile related subjects / Any degree with 2 years of work experience, preferably in textile field.
Selection Method :
The candidates will be short-listed based on the marks / grades obtained in the qualifying examination. The short-listed candidates have to undergo Group Discussion and Personal Interview for final selection.
Reservation : As per Government of India rules.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
SVPITM is the nodal centre for an Open Learning Diploma in Business Entrepreneurship. To address the need of developing dynamic and motivated entrepreneurs, in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Friedrich – Naumann, Stiftung, Germany and National Science and technology ntrepreneurship Development Board, the Institute has taken upon itself the responsibility of fulfilling the instructional and motivational needs of aspiring entrepreneurs.


NODAL CENTRE FOR UPGRADATION OF TEXTILE EDUCATION (NCUTE)
NCUTE was established on March 31, 1998 by Ministry of Textiles, Gov. of India at IIT, Delhi with the broad objective of enhancing textile industries performance through improved manpower training requirement, meet the challenges of emerging technology and quality of input, and to establish a dynamic system for reform of textile education in the country to meet with international standards and market demands. The Ministry of Textiles, Gov. of India, has transferred NCUTE to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textile Management (SVPITM), Coimbatore with the mandate to implement the schemes and take it forward in future.


PLACEMENT CELL
A separate Placement Cell is in place which is in constant touch with the leading textile manufacturing companies; export units, overseas buying houses etc., and invite them for campus recruitment. The placement office with all necessary infrastructures at the Institute consists of two Placement coordinators each from faculty and students. The Committee meets often in planning and scheduling the placement activities.

Placement Readiness Programme
Placement Readiness programme was organized by the Institute for the personality development and better performance of students in the campus interviews. The programme was conducted by the IIM Banglore alumni Mr. P.M. Austin, Max Value Academy, Chennai & CMA Textile Management Association (TMA) The Textile Management Association attempts to bridge the Institute – Industry gap in the following ways:

Applications are invited for admission to the 4-year (8-semester) Bachelor Pharmacy (B. Pharm) and Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BHMCT) programmes at Mesra:

Eligibility Criteria:
B. Pharm:
a) Candidates must have appeared in AIEEE – 2008 or AIPMT MAIN-2008, conducted by the CBSE. General category / OP candidates from AIEEE group must have AIR upto 1,00,000. All candidates who have possess the AIPMT MAIN – 2008 rank card may apply. (See also below*)
b) Candidates must have passed in all subjects in which they have appeared in Class 10 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 60% marks in average (50% for SC/ST).
Marks in Class 10 to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects).
c) Candidates must have passed in English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology / Biotechnology in Class 12 / I. Sc. or equivalent examination with minimum 60% marks (50% for SC/ST). Marks in Class 12 to be computed as average of best 5 subjects including English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics / Biology / Biotechnology.
d) Candidates of PCMB group will be preferred


BHMCT
a) Candidates must have passed in all subjects in which they have appeared in Class 10 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 50% marks in average (45% for SC/ST).
Marks in Class 10 to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects).
b) Candidates must have passed in all subjects in which they have appeared in Class 12 /Intermediate or equivalent examination (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 50% marks in average (45% for SC/ST)
c) Candidates must have English in Class 12 / Intermediate or equivalent examination
d) Marks in Class 12 to be computed as average of best 5 subjects including English


Notes:
1. The maximum age limit for admission to all undergraduate programmes is 21 years (26 years for SC/ST candidates) as on 1st Oct 2008.

Selection Procedures:
(1) For B. Pharm: Admission to the 4-year (8-semester) Bachelor of Pharmacy programme will be on the basis of Rank obtained in either AIEEE-2008 OR AIPMT Main– 2008, conducted by CBSE, and counselling to be held in the third week of July at Mesra only#. Provisional selections will be based on All India Rank in AIEEE-2008 (50% seats) or AIPMT Main - 2008 (50% seats), for eligible candidates. (See also above for rank in AIEEE-2008*).
(2) For BHMCT: Admission to the Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology programme will be on the basis of an Entrance Test to be held on 13 July 2008 and Interviews to be held in the third week of July 2008 at Mesra only#. It is proposed to hold the BHMCT Entrance Test at Mesra and our Extension Centres at Kolkata,
Noida, and Patna - provided there are sufficient numbers of candidates at each of the given Test Centres. In case the number of candidates opting for a given Test Centre is less than a certain minimum, the Institute reserves the right to shift candidates to the nearest alternative Centre. The final list of Test Centres will be notified on their website. See below for Pattern and syllabus of entrance test for admission to BHMCT Candidates appearing for Class 12/QE in 2008 can also apply. They must produce marksheet of QE at the time of Counselling, along with other documents.

To receive the Undergraduate Information Brochure – B of 2008 and application form by post, send a crossed bank draft for Rs. 900/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi, along with two self-addressed slips of paper (10 cm x 10 cm) with your name and address clearly written in block capitals and telephone number, and a letter mentioning the course applied for to reach any Centre positively by 9 June 2008. Write UG-B 2008 on the envelope. Candidates in their own interest should send their requests for Brochure by appropriate means well in advance of the last dates mentioned.
4. The Brochures can be obtained in person / by post from various Centres at the addresses given below.
5. Candidates may use the Application Form provided with this Brochure to apply for admission to only one of the undergraduate programmes described in this Brochure, either BHMCT or B. Pharmacy. Use separate application forms if you wish to apply for both programmes. Photocopies will not be accepted.
