Admission for Research Scholars Program -2009

CDFD (Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics) Hyderabad, is a premier institute in the country, which provides services in DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics and conducts basic research in different areas of modern molecular and cellular biology.

The main themes of research at CDFD are:
Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Molecular Pathogenesis, Computational & Structural Biology, (The details are listed on their website www.cdfd.org.in ).

We invite applications from highly motivated candidates, willing to take up challenges in modern biology, for admissions to our Research Scholars program. Keeping in view the interdisciplinary nature of modern biology, we especially encourage persons from diverse backgrounds to apply. Those admitted as Research Scholars would be encouraged to apply for the PhD program of Manipal University or University of Hyderabad.


Eligibility :
MBBS or Masters degree in any branch of Science, Technology, or Agriculture; from a recognized University / Institute.; Candidates (other than MBBS graduates) must have cleared the CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/ICAR NET for JRF. Those who have appeared, but are awaiting results, are also eligible to apply.
However, only those candidates will be considered who produce proof of having cleared the CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/ICAR NET JRF except for M.B.B.S. Admission to CDFD-Research Scholars program is based on a 2-tier system involving a written / online examination followed by interview of candidates who have qualified the written / online examination.

CDFD is pleased to announce upto two research fellowships for the candidates with MBBS. The admission procedure will remain the same.
In the case of candidates whose JRF examination results are announced before the written / online test of CDFD takes place, and have qualified the NET with fellowship, they will be eligible to appear for the CDFD examination upon furnishing the relevant details of having cleared the JRF/NET with fellowship.

Consultancy Development Centre (CDC) is an Autonomous organisation of Department of Scientific & Industrial research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India set up for promotion, development and strengthening of consultancy skills and capabilities in the country including enhancement of export of consultancy and professional services.

This innovative scheme from CDC aims at providing a fellowship to B.Tech / B.E ./ MBA students to undertake a live consulting project during the education programme, to encourage capacity building and professional development in the field of consulting and to support high quality innovative live consulting projects.

Eligibility requires interested Students to have atleast 80% marks in 10+2 in addition to being enrolled in T school for pursuing Engineering degree or B School for pursuing Management degree accredited by AICTE / UGC.

It is notified that the next UGC-NET for Junior Research fellowship and eligibility for Lectureship will be held on 27th December, 2009 (Sunday) in Humanities, Social Sciences (including languages), Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science etc.

The candidates who desire to appear in the test may see the detailed notification to be published in the employment news dated 24th October, 2009. The same is also available ton the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in

The candidates are advised to download the above-mentioned notification along with the application form from the UGC website.

The last date for submission of the filled application form at UGC-NET centres is 06th November, 2009

UGC National Elgibility Test For Junior Research Fellowship(JRF) and Eligibility For Lectureship – December 2009

Last date for receipt of duly completed Application Forms at the respective Test Centres is06-11-2009. Candidates should submit their Application Forms only to the Registrar of the university from where they wish to appear in the Test as indicated in item 10 below. The application must be strictly as per the prescribed format.. APPLICATION SENT DIRECTLY TO THE UGC OFFICE WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED

1) The University Grants Commission announces holding of the National Eligibility Test (NET) on 27th December, 2009 (Sunday) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges. UGC will conduct NET in 77 (seventy seven) subjects (listed under item no. 9) at 66 (sixty six) selected University Centres (listed under Item no. 10) spread across the country.

The result of the UGC-NET will be made available on the UGC website : www.ugc.ac.in and shall also be published in the Employment News as and when it is declared. The candidates will not be individually intimated about their result.


The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Lectureship. The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them. The award of JRF will depend on the performance of the candidate in NET. However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for Lectureship will not be considered for award of JRF. Candidates appearing in NET should clearly specify in the prescribed Application Form whether they are applying for both JRF & eligibility for Lectureship OR only for eligibility for Lectureship. Candidates who qualify the Test for eligibility for Lectureship will be governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Lecturers of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be.

Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Visually Handicapped (VH)/Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates will be given such special concessions as may be decided by the Commission.


2) JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP :


Candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship will be eligible to receive fellowship of UGC under various schemes, subject to finding their placement in universities/IITs/institutions. The validity period of the offer is two years w.e.f. the date of issue of JRF Award Letter. However, in case the candidates have already joined M.Phil/Ph.D., the date of commencement of fellowship shall be from the date of declaration of NET result or date of their joining, whichever is later.

UGC NET ELIGIBILITY :

i) Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from Universities/Institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree examination are eligible for this Test.


ii) Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

iii) The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
iv) Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. The candidates whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects in item No. 9, may appear in a related subject.

v) Candidates seeking concession in fee are required to submit attested copy of their OBC/SC/ST/PH/VH certificate along with their Application Forms. Other candidates are not required to submit any certificates/documents in support
of their eligibility alongwith the Application Form. Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the Commission, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.


4) AGE LIMIT & RELAXATION :
i) Junior Research Fellowship : Not more than 28 years as on 01.11.2009. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority.

Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.

ii) Lectureship : No upper age limit.

5) EXEMPTION (ELIGIBILITY FOR LECTURESHIP) :
i) For M. Phil/ Ph.D candidates: The candidates having Ph.D. Degree in the concerned subject are exempted from NET for Under Graduate and Post Graduate level teaching. The candidates having M. Phil Degree in the concerned subject are
exempted from NET for Under Graduate level teaching only. The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.

ii) For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Lectureship held prior to 1st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Lectureship anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of lecturer only in the universities/ colleges belonging to the state from where they have cleared their SET. All SET qualified candidates are also eligible to appear in NET, if they so desire.

6) EXAMINATION FEE AND MODE OF PAYMENT :
For General candidates, the examination fee is Rs.450/-; for Other Backward Classes (OBC), the fee is Rs. 225/- and for SC/ST/PH/VH candidates, it is Rs. 110/-. The fee should be paid in the form of a single crossed demand draft from any Government of India Bank/Scheduled Government Bank payable at their Service Branch, New Delhi/Delhi only with six months’ validity drawn in favour of the Secretary, U.G.C., New Delhi. Fee once paid, will not be refunded under any circumstances.

7) SCHEME AND DATE OF TEST :
(i) The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will be held on 27th
December, 2009 in two separate sessions as under :

Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.

Paper-II shall consist of short questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each of these papers will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 objective type questions. The candidate will have to mark the response for each
question on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet provided alongwith the Test Booklet. The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR Sheet will be sent to the candidate along with the Admit Card. Paper-III will consist of only descriptive
questions from the subject selected by the candidate. The candidate will be required to attempt questions in the space provided in the Test Booklet. The format of Paper-III has been revised w.e.f. June,2005 UGC-NET and is available on the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in.

Syllabus of UGC NET Test: Syllabi for all NET subjects can be downloaded from the UGC Website www.ugc.ac.in and are also available in the libraries of all Indian universities. UGC will not send the syllabus to individual candidates.

IMPORTANT :
i) The national level Test for determining the eligibility of candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship/Lectureship in science subjects (Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; Physical Sciences) is conducted jointly with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. Each scholarship provides: -

* Student concessionary or other approved air fare to the United Kingdom by the most direct and economical route and return on expiry of the scholarship (the cost of journey made before receipt of award will not normally be reimbursed nor can fares be paid for a scholar’s dependents).
* Approved tuition and examination fees.
* A personal maintenance allowance payable monthly.
* A grant for books and apparatus in the first year of study and for a subsequent full year also; and a grant towards the expenses preparing a thesis of dissertation, where applicable;
* A grant for expenses of approved travel within the U.K.
* An initial clothing grant for most scholars on first arrival from tropical developing countries;
* Where a host institution has in advance declared and the Commission has accepted, the need for fieldwork outside the United Kingdom, a grant towards the cost of such fieldwork, which shall not normally exceed one economy and tourist class return fare to the fieldwork location. Scholars for whom fieldwork fares are provided to their home country shall not be entitled to a mid – term homeward fare;
* For married scholars selected by the Commission for awards exceeding 12 months, a marriage allowance per mensem is payable provided that the husband and wife are residing together at the same address in the United Kingdom. It is not paid when a husband or wife of the scholars is also in receipt of an award, or is in paid employment. For such married couples accompanied by their children, a child allowance is payable for the first, second and third child under the age of 16 provided they are residing with their parents. Young Scholars Award Scheme

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme to generate interest m and awareness about the Indian banking sector and RBI Under the Scheme, the RBI will select a maximum of 150 young scholars through a countrywide competitive examination and award a scholarship. Selection test will focus on the role and functions of RBI and banks in India and will be held in English as well as in all major regional languages. Selected candidates will be required to work on projects in select offices of RBI for 2 to 3 months and will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs. 7,500/- per month during the duration of die project. RBI will assist outstation awardees in boarding and lodging. The awardees shall have no right/claim for an appointment in the RBI. Any candidate who had qualified and worked at RBI under the RBI Young Scholar Award Scheme in any of the previous years need not apply again.

All students, between 18 and 23 years of age, currently pursuing their undergraduate studies in any subject under any recognised university in India, are eligible to take the competitive examination. There is no application fee. The selection test will be held on January 10, 2010 at various centres across India. The results of the selection test are likely to be announced in the middle of Match 2010. Eligibility: For Regular (full time] Research Scholars:

Ph.D. in Engineering:

a] Candidates with a Master's degree in Engineering / Technology with a good academic record or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering / Technology with a good academic record.

b) Master's degree in Engineering / Technology where eligible with a good academic record.

At least 5 years of managerial experience in lieu of the above examination. (This clause is only for Non-HTRA candidates)

Master's degree in Engineering / Technology with a good academic record or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering / Technology in a relevant discipline are exempted from qualifying in National level examinations.

For Institute staff members / Research Scholars under QIP / Research Scholars under External Registration / Research Scholars working on part-time basis:

For Research Scholars in the above categories, the minimum educational qualifications are the same as prescribed for Regular (full time) Research Scholars in for admission to the Ph.D. Programme in the respective categories.

However, valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET / NBHM /JMET / CAT / AIMA / JRF or Lectureship or equivalent qualification as applicable for regular (full time) research scholars may not be required in these cases.


Minimum Educational Qualifications for M.S:


For Regular (full time) Research Scholars:


M.S. in Engineering / Entrepreneurship / Management:

a) Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology with valid GATE score or a Master's degree in appropriate Sciences Management / Humanities and Social Sciences where eligible with a good academic record and a valid GATE score or CSIR / UGC NET / NBHM / JEMT / CAT / AIMA or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant areas.

SELECTION PROCESS

I. MSc NURSING, BSc NURSING FOR TRAINED NURSES, FELLOWSHIP IN NURSING AND POSE BASIC DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES IN NURSING

Candidates who have applied for MSc Nursing, BSc (N) for Trained Nurses, Fellowship in Nursing and Post Basic Diploma programmes in Nursing will appear for a written examination in the centre mentioned in the hall ticket. The short listed candidates called for the medical checkup and interview after the preliminary selection will be published in the website and intimated individually by post before the 2nd week of December 2009.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

All eligible candidates are required to undertake a written examination (multiple choice questions) on 28 November 2009. Regular:-

The applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC will be allowed relaxation in the age limit as per Govt. of India rules.





Sponsored (Full-Time):-

A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter (Form-I) must be attached with the application.


Self-Financed:-

A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the Ph.D. Programme. He/She must have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. He/She must have at qualified in NET (LS) or GATE in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.



Project Staff:-

This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted to the Ph.D. Programme to work on a full-time or part-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her Ph.D. Programme, his/her category will be converted to that of SELF-FINANCED unless he/she is granted an assistantship/fellowship from the Institute or any other agency. No Objection Certificate (Form-II) must be attached with the application.


Part-Time:-

A student in this category is a professionally employed person (including the staff of IIT Patna), who pursues the Ph.D. Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form-III) must be enclosed at the time of application. He/She must have at qualified in NET (including LS) or GATE in the respective field.


External:-

This category refers to a student employed in an R&D organization/academic institution/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the Ph.D. degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a faculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the Department/Centre in which he/she is registered. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A certificate from the Head of the sponsoring Institution/Organization in which he/she is employed (Form-IV) must be enclosed at the time of application.


Note: The word Form used under this section refers to the forms as specified in Pages 4 to 6 of the Application Form for Admission to Ph.D. Programme.


Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:

Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.

Reservations:

The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC categories and for Persons with Disability (PD) will be as per Government of India rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per formats as indicated at Annexures-I and II.



Financial Support:

The Institute assistantships will be available to eligible (Indian) students as per prevailing (MHRD, GOI) norms, as applicable from time to time. The present rates of assistantships are as below:



BE/ BTech/ MSc/ MA equivalent with valid GATE score above the prescribed cut off level/ NET / NBHM/ DBT-JRF qualification:

1st & 2nd Year: Rs.12, 000/- p.m.

Note:# No assistantship will be available beyond 4th year for this category of students.

Assistantships from external funding organizations will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned funding organizations.

Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms.

The continuation of the assistantship/fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory progress of the student in the Ph.D. Programme.
