About the Institute
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) was established in 1999, as a centre of excellence in Information Technology and allied areas. The Institute was conferred the ‘Deemed University’ status by Govt. of India in the year 2000. The Institute thus became empowered to award degrees subsequent to the conduct of its own examinations.
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) has been conceived with the ambitious objectives of developing professional expertise and skilled manpower in Information Technology (IT) and related areas. This will enable the country to exploit efficiently emerging opportunities, and meet economic challenges being thrown up by the rapid global IT revolution, which is influencing virtually every area of development and social activity. As an apex nucleating institute in the area of IT, the establishment of IIIT-A, is a major step of Govt. of India towards strengthening the indigenous capability necessary for exploiting profitably and harnessing multi-dimensional facets of IT at all levels, and attaining expertise to enable the country to emerge as a leading player in the global arena.
From the session 2002-2003, it has been shifted to its own permanent site at Deoghat, Jhalwa, Allahabad. The beautiful 100 acre campus designed meticulously on the Penrose Geometry pattern, is being further topped by fine landscaping to give an all round soothing effect to create a stimulating environment to indulge in the true pursuit of excellence in the field of Information Technology and Allied Sciences. The campus is envisaged to be a fully residential one, with all its faculty, staff and students housed within it. All academic and residential areas are serviced by Internet (4mpbs leased line) and LAN.
Each academic year consists of two semesters and a summer term. While the education system is broadly organized on the pattern of other IIT’s, a Relative Grading System pattern with credits allotted for each course, is followed for End Semester Examinations. This, while enabling continuous evaluation of students’ performance, also provides students the desired flexibility to choose courses as per their own interests. Each course is assigned specified credits, depending upon its relative importance in the field of Information Technology. Minimum of Pass Grade in each individual paper and a minimum of 5.5 Semester Grade Point Average is required to be promoted to the next semester. To boost creativity among students, mini and major projects, in their chosen fields of interest, form an internal part of the course curriculum at the Institute. Normally one theory course credit hours is of 15 hours of lectures in one semester, and one laboratory course credit hours is of 30 hours of laboratory work.
One of the salient features of the training imparted to the students is the hands-on computer assembly training. Almost all of the Institute’s computers have been assembled by the students themselves, under guidance of the specially trained technical staff. This has not only enabled the Institute in bringing down the cost of new computers, but also made almost 100% instant trouble shooting of any faults, resulting in no requirement of any computer related AMC’s.
It is in these contexts that this Institute promises to play a crucial role to generate requisite high level technical manpower to meet national goals in critical areas like defense, weather forecasting, space programmes, economic development and social transformation, to gain from emerging IT revolution. Keeping these in view, the Courses of the Institute have been designed with a lot of operational flexibilities of additions and subtractions according to the need of the society.

Post Graduate Diploma in Textile Management (PGDTM)
The two year full time course (PGDTM) is designed to offer core management learning for textile professionals. Addressing the growing complexity and competition of textile business, this program provides the right synergy of technology and management aligned to the specific needs of textiles industry. The course runs through four semesters. The first two semesters comprise of fundamental management training with specific application in textiles industry. This is complemented with industrial interaction, seminars, projects etc. to develop and enhance the latent skills of the students. A summer project between the second and third semester provides needed practical exposure to industry and its functioning. The third semester takes the students through the advanced areas of textiles industry management. In the fourth and final semester students specialize in the functional areas and conduct an extensive industry based project. This provides thorough knowledge and understanding in specific domain.
Post Graduate Diploma in Apparel Management (PGDAM)
The two-year full time course (PGDAM) is oriented to the needs of fast growing apparel industry covering knitting and garment clusters in the country. Creating a cadre of specialized professionals with technical and managerial knowledge is the gist of this course. The course is divided into four semesters. The first semester deals with basic textiles, knitting technology and fundamentals of management. The second semester comprised of an advanced study of apparel, marketing, finance aspects of management interspersed with summer training. The third semester deals with study of Apparel Production Technology, Quality Control and Textiles, Management Information System, International Marketing and Entrepreneurship Development with two electives of their choice. The fourth semester, the students specializes in their field of interest like HR, Marketing, Production, IT and Fashion Management apart from two core courses on finishing in garment and textile costing. ABOUT IIT DELHI:
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the seven Institutes of Technology in India, the others being Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras, Kanpur, Guwahati and Roorkee. These Institutes have been created as centres of excellence for higher training, research and development in science, engineering and technology. Established as a College of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was declared an Institute of National Importance under the “Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963” and renamed “Indian Institute of Technology Delhi”. IIT Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of different engineering institutes in India, other than IIT Delhi (and if possible, abroad) to execute an innovative research and development project under the guidance of an IIT Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a casual student; she/he will not be required to pay institute registration fees.
About the Fellowship
Duration : The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be availed of during at most two visits.
Support :
The fellowship will cover the following:
(a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi;
(b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in the Institute hostels; and
(c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week.
The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges.
Eligibility
Any undergraduate student who has completed at least 2 years of study towards an engineering degree will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Students who will be completing this requirement by May 2008 are also eligible.

Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.
Selection Procedure: Online Entrance Test on 24 and 25 May 2008 at Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida and Ranchi. It is proposed to hold the MCA 2008 Online Entrance Test at the following Test Centres - Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, and Ranchi - provided there are sufficient number of candidates at each of the given Test Centres. In case the number of candidates opting for a given Test Centre is less than a certain minimum, the Institute reserves the right to shift candidates to the nearest alternative Centre.
Counselling: Counselling schedules of candidates will be based on their performance in the above Test and their choices of Place for Study, and will be notified about a week after the Test, on the Institute website and Notice Boards only. The counselling will be held in the second week of June 2008 at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Noida, Mesra and/or Lalpur, at the addresses given below. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Candidates must visit our website occasionally for updates or any other matters related to the admission procedures.
Provisional selections for the MCA programme will be based on performance in the Online Entrance Test of such candidates who have applied, provided they satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria mentioned above, due consideration being given to their choice(s) of Place for Study made in their application forms. Provisional selection lists, along with procedures for admissions, will be notified as soon as possible after the counselling, on the Institute website and Notice Boards of the Institute / concerned Extension Centres only. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Provisionally selected candidates will be required to take admission by the date given, failing which vacant seats may be allotted to waitlisted candidates. The list of waitlisted candidates will also be announced on our website and Institute Notice Boards only. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. ELIGIBILITY
1. For B.A.LL.B, B.B.A.LL.B the candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent in any stream with at least 50% marks. For B.Sc.LL.B (hons) candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent in the science stream with at least 55% marks.

SELECTION
Admission will be through KLSAT. The entrance test will be of two hours duration and 70% of the questions will be multiple choice type & remaining 30% will be of the short answer type to test Legal Acumen, Logical & Analytical Reasoning, Mathematical & Numerical Ability, General English and General Knowledge. The test will be held at 68 centres throughout India.

13TH Batch Post Graduate Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Engineering (2008-09)
Recognised by “All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)” & covers mandatory requirements under Indian Electricity (Amendment) Rules,1981.
WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN? The main aim of the course is to develop a pool of technically trained manpower readily available for recruitment to the Indian Power Sector. Besides, the course shall enhance the knowledge and skills of the engineers sponsored by the State Electricity Boards, Power Utilities etc.
ABOUT THE COURSE: This is a modular type course of one year duration. Formal coaching is held at Regional Institutes of NPTI located at Badarpur (New Delhi), Nagpur, Durgapur and Neyveli. On job training is conducted at the nearby Thermal Power Stations and the training on state of the art simulator, at NPTI, Faridabad/Badarpur/Nagpur. The course profile covers the mandatory requirements under Indian Electricity Amendment Rules, 1981, which stipulates “No person shall be authorised to operate or undertake maintenance of any part or whole of generating station of capacity 100 MW and above together with the associated sub-station unless he is adequately qualified and has undergone the specified training at a recognised Institute”.
ELIGIBILITY: B.E. or equivalent in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Power/ Control & Instrumentation Engineering. Those appearing in their final year examination can also apply. They must submit their result at the time of counseling.
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION: Merit based on a Common Entrance Test (CET) followed by counselling. CET will be held on 15.06.2008 at Delhi, Nagpur, Durgapur, Banglore and Neyveli.
AGE LIMIT : For non-sponsored candidates the age limit as on 31.8.2008 is 30 years. No age limit for the sponsored candidate.
TOTAL SEATS: 200 (Fifty seats at each Regional Institute). Reservation for SC/ST/Physically challenged as per Govt. of India Norms. 25% seats are reserved for candidates sponsored from Power utilities having more than one year experience and more than 65% marks in Engineering Degree.
PLACEMENT: To provide career opportunities in the Indian Power Sector, NPTI shall maintain close linkages with Power Utilities and reputed companies for employment of these trained engineers. Most of the students of previous batches were placed decently in reputed Power sector companies.

This two-year programme develops Industrial Engineers as Technology Management experts for both manufacturing and service sectors. The programme covers subjects such as Supply Chain Management, Six Sigma, Operations Management, Project Management, Logistics, BPR, ERP and Software Engineering.
Eligibility & Selection: GATE qualified 1st Class Engineering/ Technology graduates in any branch. GATE qualifiers get Teaching Assistantship. Admission based on Group Discussion and Interview with appropriate weightage given to GATE score. Selection of Industry Sponsored candidates with First Class Degree in Engineering/ Technology (with a minimum of 2 years industry experience) is through personal interview only. GATE score is not required for Sponsored candidates.

2. FELLOW (DOCTORAL) PROGRAMME (FP)
Areas: Organizational Behaviour, Marketing, Finance & Accounting, Operations Management, Economics, Operations Research, IT, Ergonomics, Safety and Environment Management.
The programme aims to admit, in the above areas of specialization, the individuals with sound academic background, strong motivation and potential to become excellent researches at national and international level. Applicants are evaluated on their past academic achievements, motivation and preparation for the programme, seminar presentation on the area of his/her research interest and personal interview.
Eligibility & Selection: Master’s Degree or equivalent with in Engineering / Technology, Management, Economics, Social Sciences, Biological Science and Pure Science with First Class will be considered for admission to Fellow (Doctoral) Programme. Those appearing for their final examination in the respective disciplines can also apply Selection is based on the presentation on the tentative research proposal followed by Personal Interview.
Industry Sponsored candidates with above eligibility and a minimum of two years experience at executive level can also apply under external category. They will have to stay in the campus for a year to undergo full-time course work.
Financial Support & Fees: Financial assistance is provided to all candidates for four years except for external category.
Reservation and 5% relaxation on 1st Class % marks are applicable to SC/ST/PD candidates as per Govt. of India rules for both the programmes.
For both the programmes reservation of OBC candidates will be as per the Government of India rules. Fulfillment of minimum qualifications is not an automatic claim for Group Discussion, Interview etc.
