Candidates appearing in the final year of their bachelor’s degree are also eligible, provided they complete all formalities of their examination before June 30 for the academic session beginning from July. Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a programme of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) approved by AICTE and is equivalent to MBA programme. This course offers a flexible approach to human resource development in the fast evolving tourism and leisure scenario. Its structure is adaptive and caters to the career goals of students- both the fresh graduates as well as those seeking betterment in the current position. Course Structure :
1. This is an intensive programme of study of 2 academic sessions.
2. The programme shall be divided into four semesters. There are three taught semesters and one semester of on-the-job training. There shall be an examination at the end of each taught semester.
3. Each taught semester shall comprise of nine courses, each of three hours per week equivalent teaching obligation and equal amount of self study.
4. This programme is a whole time programme of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management.

Eligibility : Candidates seeking admission to the PGDM programme shall be required to possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 50 % marks in aggregate of a University or equivalent thereto (45 % for SC/ST/PH).

Admission Procedure : Admission to the programme shall be through an admission process of 100 points. A weight of 70% shall be for the performance in a centralised All India Admission Test. Another 15% points each are for Personal Interview (PI) and Group Discussion (GD) respectively. Merit for admission to the programme shall be determined by the institute.

Seats and Reservation : Admission will be offered on 60 (sixty) seats in each batch. There will be reservation for SC/ST/PH candidates as per rules of the institute/ Government of India.

Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program 2011 at Kaiser Family Foundation


The Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program brings talented college seniors and recent graduates to Washington, D.C., where they are placed in congressional offices and learn about health policy issues, with a focus on issues affecting racial and ethnic minority and underserved communities. Through the ten-week program (May 23, 2011 through August 6, 2011), Scholars gain knowledge about federal legislative procedure and health policy issues, while further developing their critical thinking and leadership skills. In addition to gaining experience in a congressional office, Scholars participate in seminars and site visits to augment their knowledge of health care issues, and write and present a health policy research memo that addresses a problem of concern to disadvantaged populations.

Aim : The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation established the Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program at Howard University to honor the legacy of former Foundation Trustee and Congresswoman Barbara Jordan and to expand the pool of students in the field of health policy who are interested in issues affecting racial and ethnic minority and underserved communities. As a member of the United States Congress and the Texas State Legislature, Barbara Jordan’s distinguished career was exemplified by her tireless advocacy of behalf of vulnerable populations. She brought this passion to her work, inspiring others to become involved in addressing challenging health policy issues.
Benefits : Scholars receive approximately $7,500 in support, which includes:

Combined Research Entrance Test 2010 at University of Allahabad


The University of Allahabad shall conduct the COMBINED RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST-2010 (CRET- 2010) at Allahabad for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (D. Phil.) Programme of the University for the session 2010-11 in the subjects specified in SECTION 2 of this Bulletin. As laid down in the University’s Ordinance LVI, candidates for admission to the D.Phil. Programme must hold the master’s degree (or a degree recognised by the University as equivalent thereto) in a relevant subject from the University, or any other university or institution recognised by it, and must fulfill other prescribed conditions of eligibility.

Regular teachers of the University of Allahabad and of any institution maintained by it or admitted to its privileges and International Students are exempted from appearing at CRET for admission to D.Phil program. All other candidates for admission to the D.Phil. Admissions to all Programmes will be made purely on merit. Admissions to all Higher degree Programmes are based on the performance of the candidates in the computer based online testconducted by BITS followed by interviews of shortlisted candidate The test will be a computer based online test conducted by BITS Pilani at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. Computer based online test means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate submits the answers though the use of keyboard & mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer. The test are planned to be conducted will be conducted during 18th-19th December 2011 and the candidate can choose the center to take the test as prescribed in later sections.

Thapar University, Patiala invites applications from eligible candidates to admit students to the Second Semester of UG programme in January 2011 by conducting its own entrance test in the month of December 2010. This admission will be made for the vacancies that may exist in the first year. The students admitted in this category shall have to clear all the courses as per the scheme of the discipline of Thapar University, in which she/he is admitted. 1 She/he should have been a student of BE/BTech programme of a recognized Institute/University and have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from recognized board
and have secured at least 60% (55% for SC/ST candidates) marks in aggregate of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Computer science/Biology/Biotechnology.

2 She/he should have appeared in the Entrance Test to be conducted by Thapar University. The
cut-off marks in the Entrance test shall be 20% (15% for SC/ST).

In case of a tie among candidates securing equal marks in the merit list, the same will be broken in accordance with the following criteria:
(a) Candidate senior in age shall rank higher in order of merit.

The admission to M.Phil/Ph.D. is granted by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the respective Board of Studies/Committee for Advanced Studies and Research and the Faculty.

There will be Admission Test/Interview for admission to M.Phil/Ph.D. courses as per regulations of M.Phil/Ph.D.


Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission to M.Phil/Ph.D. Course:-
A candidate will be eligible for admission to a Course of study leading to the degree of M.Phil/Ph.D if he/she has passed the Master's Degree examination (M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. etc.) from this University or an equivalent examination recognised by this University, with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade (In case of the Faculty of Medicine, all candidates who have successfully completed their Masters Degree may be considered eligible for admission to M. Phil. / Ph.D.) in a subject relevant to his/her proposed field of Research, provided that he/she also had obtained not less than 55% marks for admission to Ph.D. and 50% marks for M.Phil at his/her Bachelor's Degree examination subject to any further requirements for eligibility that may be laid down by the Board of Studies concerned from time to time. IIT Rajasthan is one among the new set of IITs announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. IIT Kanpur has been designated as the mentor IIT for looking after the incubation activities of the new IIT in Rajasthan.

Students admitted to the Ph.D. programme will have opportunity of interdisciplinary research within the scope of on thematic area(s) identified by the respective CoE. Thus scholars have a unique option to carry out research even beyond their basic disciplines/expertise in the qualifying degree.

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) invites applications for Admission to Ph.D. PROGRAMMES in the following departments / Schools:

Admission to the Ph.D. programmes will be in the following schemes:
(i) Full-time (FT)
(ii) Part-time (PT)
(iii) Internal (IN) and
(iv) External (EX).

Ph.D. fellowships are available for candidates under Full-time scheme.
For the Part-time and External schemes of registration, the applicant must be an employ of a recognized institution/organization with at least two years of service and be engaged in professional work in the area to which admission is sought.

Candidates under Part-time scheme will have to submit no objection certificate from the head of the institution.

External registration is available only for candidates sponsored by and employed in recognized research institutions such as Research and Development Organizations /National Laboratories/ and Industries having R & D facilities recognized by Department of Science and Technology. A candidate applying for admission to the external registration programme must provide detailed information about the research facilities available at his/her organization and must produce a certificate from a competent authority specifying that these facilities would be available to him/her for carrying out research.. He/She should also provide the bio-data of the prospective supervisor who would supervise the candidate's work at his/her organization. External registration will be granted only when a qualified research guide is available in the sponsoring institution and is willing to guide the candidate along with a guide in NITC. Candidates from educational institution are not eligible under external scheme.

Registration under Internal (IN) scheme is available only to full time/contract employees of NITC.

ELIGIBILITY AND ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMES
The candidates for Ph.D. Programmes may be offered admission, based on certain minimum academic requirements to be satisfied by the candidates as given below:

The maximum age for admission to Ph.D. programme is 50 years.

I. Faculty of Engineering:
M.Tech. Degree in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate branch of study with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)].

II. Faculty of Architecture:
Master's degree in Architecture/Design/Planning/Engineering/Technology or its equivalent with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)].

III. Faculty of Nanoscience & Technology
M.Tech. Degree in any discipline of Engineering/Technology/Nanoscience & Technology with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA

OR

VI. Faculty of Management Studies

Candidates with masters degree in engineering and technology or architecture with GATE Score OR having Managerial experience for not less than 5 years OR when applying for Part time/ Internal/External scheme of registration do not require UGC/NET/CSIR fellowship.

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
The admission to Ph.D. Programmes will be on the basis of written test and/or interview, by the respective Department/School.

Monitoring the Work and Progress:
Each research scholar will be assigned a Supervisor (Not more than two) by the Department. The work and progress of the scholars will be monitored by a Doctoral Committee specially appointed for each scholar. Only with the approval of the Doctoral Committee, the courses of study shall be prescribed and the Doctoral Thesis approved for submission. The work and progress of the scholars in each semester will be assessed by the Doctoral Committee and the thesis supervisor and only on satisfactory progress as approved by the Doctoral Committee, the scholars will be allowed to continue in the programme.

Eligibility for the Award of Degree:
The Ph.D. thesis submitted by the scholar will be evaluated by two external examiners, one from India and another from abroad, both being experts in the concerned area of the research. On receipt of satisfactory thesis evaluation reports from both the examiners, an Oral Examination Board will be constituted by the Chairman Senate for the conduct of the thesis defense / oral examination. The members of the Board will include one of the external examiners, thesis supervisor(s) and another examiner appointed by the Chairman of the Senate with the Head of the Department (if he is a guide the former Head) as Chairman. The scholar will be declared eligible for the award of the degree only if the Oral Examination Board recommends the same after successful defense of the thesis and has completed other requirements as per the Ph.D. regulations.

Graduation Requirements: All Ph.D. scholars irrespective of the type of registration will have to complete the following requirements for Graduation:
• Credited the minimum number of theory courses prescribed and earned the minimum CGPA stipulated
• Successfully completed the Comprehensive Viva-Voce Examination
• Presented a Work on Account report and completed the Pre-Ph.D. Examination
• Successfully presented an Open Defense of his/her thesis
• Obtained positive recommendations both from the external examiners and the Oral Examination Board

4. A passport size photograph taken not earlier than 3 months is to be affixed on the Application Form. The photo in the application should be self-attested. Additional six copies of the same photograph and one stamp size photograph should be produced at the time of interview/admission.
