M.Sc. in one of the following subjects: Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric sciences, chemistry(physics nuclear/analytical),Geology, Geophysics,ocean sciences. Engineering students with M.E/M.Tech (in Electronics and Communication or computer Engineering or Information Technology or Mechanical Engineering) are also eligible to pursue the Ph.D. programme in physical sciences. They must have physics and mathematics at the B.Sc.level. A minimum of 60% marks ast the Masters level is required for all candidates. Those appearing for Masters Degree examination in 2009 may also to apply. Those who applied earlier and were not selected need not apply again. Age limit: Not more than 25 years as on 31.12.2008.

Selection procedure: Written test, followed by personal interview for those who qualify in the written test. These will be held at the PRL main campus at Ahemedabad. Written test may be waived for candidates who have qualified with exceptionally good rank in any of the following I) JEST-2009 ii) GATE(IN PHYSICS)2008-09 iii) UGC-CSIR NET in 2007-08 in subject code-1, chemical sciences, or subject code-2, Earth, Atmospheric, ocean and planetary sciences, or subject code-5, physical sciences.

A Photocopy of the GATE/NET result must accompany the application, if applicable. If the NET certificate is not available a copy of the admit card and a print-out of the online results with the candidates roll number circled should be sent. Candidates who have qualified JEST2009 should mention their roll number rank and percentage.

Stipend and Facilities:

Rs.12000/- per month, raised to Rs.14000/- per month after two years, subject to satisfactory review, a book grant of Rs.5000/-per year, and accommodation at a nominal charge. Students may also be partially supported for attending conferences abroad during their tenure.

As per the Screening test Regulations 2002, an Indian citizen possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by any medical institution outside India who is desirous of getting provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council on or after 15.03.2002 shall have to quality a screening test.

Eligibility : Candidates for XIME’s Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) are required to have a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks for all subjects taken together (45% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates who are appearing for their final year examination and are awaiting their results may also apply. They should have maintained an average of 50% marks in the programme until that time. They should also complete all their degree examinations before 21st June, 2009.Such candidates are also required to provide proof of passing the degree examination with the minimum required marks, latest by 30th September 2009.

Fee Structure :
The programme fee (covering Admission, Tuition, Library, Computer Centre, Establishment,Text Books, Examinations, Diploma, Activities and Alumni Association Membership) is to be paid in eight instalments as indicated below:

First Year :
Rs. 2,20,000 : Payable in four instalments (Rs. 55,000, 55,000, 55,000 and 55,000)

Second year :
Rs. 2,30,000 : Payable in four instalments (Rs. 60,000, 60,000, 55,000 and 55,000) Dates for payment of fees will be announced at the beginning of the year.

Caution Deposit :
A one time caution deposit of Rs. 15,000 is payable at the time of admission, which is refundable at the end of the programme, after deducting dues to XIME, if any.

Additional Charges Payable
The Hostel Fees payable by each student will be approximately Rs. 5,000 per month which includes loadging,boarding, electricity and water charges.
Students are expected to stay in the hostels, unelss exempted for any special reasons.

Lap Top : It is necessary for every student to possess a laptop PC. The institute will happy to arrange for the supply of the same, ensuring the required feature specifications of XIME. Alternatively the student himself can arrange for the same. The cost of the laptop is estimated to be about Rs.40000.

Fees must be paid on time. Delayed payments will attract penalty.
Fees once paid are not refundable.

Two year course in Development Management

Post Graduate Diploma in Development Management

The Tata-Dhan Academy at Madurai is offering a specialized course called Post Graduate Diploma in Development Management to meet the requirement of suitable hands for development studies. This academy is a joint venture of Dhan Foundation and Sir Ratan Tata Trust.

By offering this couse, the Academy wants to produce quality development professionals with appropriate motivation, values and ethics besides shaping them to work for creating a significant impact on the lives of the poor. This two year programme commences in July’09 and would have four segments, preparatory, classroom,fieldwork and development practice. The preparatory segment, which would go for four weeks, attempts to raise the students proficiency in understanding the rural context, qualitative analysis and communication skills.

During this particular segment, students will have village stay, remedial classes in Englsh, mathematics, computer appreciation and application, case analysis besides yoga appreciation.

According to the faculty of Tata Dhan Academy, the classroom segment will teach students on basics of development, management for development, leadership and institution building, and communication for development. The field work segment focuses on intervention strategies through field studies to make the students understand various issues related to development. Management concepts, principles, tools and techniques relevant to development are taught in this course, a press note from the Academy said, Candidates completing the course successfully will be placed in development organizations.

Admission process

Selection for admission to this course will be made on the basis of a Development Management Admission Test(DMAT)to be held on February 15 at various centres in the country. In southern India, the test centres are: Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi.

Graduates with minimum 50%marks can apply for the course. Those appearing for the final year UG examinations this year can also apply.
