About the University

M.Sc. Biodiversity and Conservation
The course will introduce to biodiversity and conservation biology and will impart in‐depth knowledge on topics ranging from evolution, ecology, land use, wilderness preservation, global warming, species extinction, and the economic and social impact of environmental actions.
The aim of this course is to provide the theoretical and practical background needed for those looking to pursue their career in the field of conservation of biological diversity and their natural habitats based on scientific research. The objective of this course is to make the professional aware of the social, political and economic issues relevant to achieving the above goal. The course would produce biologists who can communicate and address the problems related to conservation projects.


Innovative Teaching
Some modules will make use of the Virtual Field Trip to introduce students to field research and the types of ecosystems existing in the Indian Peninsula.

Research Project
Significant independent project: This will be a 6 month project in any area of biodiversity and conservation, taxonomy, ecology, ethnobiology, environmental problems and its advocacy.

B.Sc. degree or equivalent (Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Anthropology or any field of Life Sciences) with minimum 60% marks.

Entrance Test for SMOT's PGPM is being conducted on July 5th, Saturday at select centres across India. This written test is designed to test the verbal ability and aptitude of an applicant. The test consists of 50 questions in total and duration is 1 hour.

SMOT Entrance Test is being conducted in the following cities on July 5th, 2008 : Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Nagpur.


You become eligible to appear for the entrance test on buying the application form by paying Rs. 900/- towards the cost of application form. The filled in form can be sent by courier or submitted online or brought to the venue on the day of the entrance test.
An applicant producing valid CAT / GMAT score will be exempted from the written test.

However, there are specific admission requirements in SMOT. A student may be required to commit, tentatively at least, a career option in one of the functional areas such as finance, marketing, operations, human resources or information technology. In addition, applicants will have demonstrated certain qualities that are dear to SMOT students such as powerful vision for the future. Applicants are also evaluated based on their performance in the written test conducted by SMOT. The test generally evaluates a candidate for his/her aptitude and verbal ability. Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) is a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), which is a central autonomous body under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. The Institute conducts research in all frontline areas of plant biology, agriculture and chemistry. The institute invites applications from eligible candidates for admission in CIMAP-JNU Ph.D programme (2008-2009) leading to award of Ph.D degree from JNU. Candidates who have completed or will be completing M.Sc. in life sciences (Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry / Biotechnology/ Bioscience/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Bioinformatics) with minimum 55 % marks and have cleared CSIR UGC NET Exam/ ICMR NET Exam / DBT JRF Exam or any other Exam leading to JRF/ SRF fellowship tenable at CIMAP (as on 3rd August, 2008) are eligible for selection under the programme to carry out advanced research in the area of Biotechnology/ Genomics/ Plant Tissue Culture/ Bioinformatics/ Plant Physiology/ Metabolomics/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Botany and Pharmacogonosy/ Natural Product/ Synthetic/ Analytical/ Process Chemistry/ Agronomy/ Soil Science/ Plant Nutrition/ Crop Improvement/ Crop Protection/ Agricultural Economics & Extension, etc. The selection will be made on the basis of interview only. The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D Programme in academic affiliation with the Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi. Reservations are as per Government of India norms.

The selection will be made on the basis of Interview only. The interview of short-listed candidates will be held on 2 and 3 August, 2008. Each eligible candidate will be communicated about date and time of the interview by post. The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D. Programme in academic affiliation with the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Selected candidates will have to complete Pre-Ph.D. courses in any one of the three sub-disciplines (Plant Sciences/Biotechnology and Bioinformatics/Chemical sciences) of their interest as the Core courses with optional courses, in two semesters spread over one year. On the successful completion of courses (OGPA 6.5/10 for general category and 6.0/10.0 for SC/ST/OBC) students will be eligible for registration as CIMAP-JNU Ph.D scholar under the supervision of CIMAP scientist available as guide to carry out research on a scientific topic covered under CIMAP’s mandate at CIMAP, Lucknow. A maximum of twenty four students may be admitted covering all the three sub disciplines mentioned above.

2. Completed application forms must be accompanied with a crossed Demand Draft for Rs.300/-(rupees three hundred only) in favour of Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow. A Demand Draft of Rs. 100/- (one hundred only) is acceptable from SC/ST/OBC candidate provided relevant documentary proof is attached with the application. The processing fee is not refundable.
3. Application should be accompanied by attested copies of certificates and mark sheets from Senior Secondary level onward.

Stipend and Scholarships (Under graduate Level (B.A.)/ Post graduate Level)

Stipend & Scholarships: A limited number of merit cum need-based scholarships are available for deserving students. The students belong to SC/ST/OBC are provided scholarship from Social Welfare Department as per State Govt. norms.

1. At the Under graduate Level (B.A.)
(A) Need-based scholarship in BA Ist Year
Scholarships are given to needy students who will be required to furnish the following details alongwith supporting documents on having secured admission to the desired course :
(i) Proof of Income of family
(ii) Minimum 45% marks in 10 + 2 final examination

The above scholarship is only for the first year. The number of scholarships are limited.

(B) Need-cum-merit-based scholarship in BA II & III Year
Scholarships are renewable each year. The candidate’s performance is assessed every year and if she fulfills the following conditions, the scholarships will be continued.
(i) Secured a minimum of 60% marks in the previous year exams.
(ii) Proof of family income.
(iii) Good conduct certified by teachers concerned.
(iv) Has full attendance.

All these scholarships will contribute only towards the waiver of tuition fees and no cash rewards. The student will have to bear other expenses. A committee will decide students and the decision of the University will be final.

2. At the Post graduate Level
(a) For study of Post graduate courses (non-conventional subjects excluding SOL) stipends are offered to 5 students per year per course for Rs. 1000/- p.m. for 10 months.
(b) For study of M.Phil. Courses stipends are offered to 5 students on merit basis only to those students who have their masters degree either in Jainology and Comparative Religion and Philosophy or in Prakrit for Rs. 1500/- p.m. for 10 months.

The award of stipend will be made on the recommendations of HOD and approval of Vice-Chancellor.

Conditions :
Every student who gets the stipend should have
(i) good conduct certified by HOD and concerned Administrative Officers including hostel wardens.
(ii) have regular attendance, which means :
(a) A student must have minimum of 75% attendance every month.
(b) If a student is admitted upto the 15th of the month he/she will be entitled for the stipend for that month fulfilling the condition of a minimum of 75% attendance proportionately. But if he/she is admitted after the 15th, the stipend for that month will not be granted to him/her.

Note :
1. Vice-Chancellor is the competent authority to change, add or delete any of the above rules.
2. The decision of the Vice-Chancellor shall be final in respect of interpretation of any of the rules and regulations mentioned above.
3. Non-fulfillment of any of these conditions will result in the discontinuation of the stipend.

Jain Vishva Bharati University (JVBU): A Profile

HOW TO OBTAIN APPLICATION FORMS
􀁦 Candidates seeking admission to any course at JVBU during the academic session 2008-2009 may obtain the prescribed Application Form along with the Prospectus from the University Counter at JVBU on cash payment or download form their website: www.jvbi.ac.in.
􀁦 The cost of Prospectus along with the Application Form for each course includes the Entrance Test/Admission Procedure Fee. No any other fee is required to be submitted at the time of submission of the Application Form accept applications fees.
􀁦 The Application Form and Prospectus may also be obtained through post by sending crossed Demand Draft of an amount as shown in Table (under the column Application Fees) drawn in favour of “Registrar, JVBU” payable at Ladnun along with a self-addressed envelop of 30x25 c.m. size affixing postage stamps worth Rs. 50 /- clearly indicating the name of the course for which the Application Form is required. Admission of Candidates under Sponsored Category
Eligibility
i) Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria as specified in Table-I will be considered for admission to respective courses under sponsored category.
ii) Under sponsored category the candidates having valid GATE Score shall be given preference over non-GATE candidates for admission (based on their merit), the percentile GATE score forming the basis of the merit list
iii) The candidates must have minimum 2 years of full time work experience in relevant field in which admission is being sought, after attaining the qualifying degree/certificate, in a registered firm/company/industry/ educational and/or research institute/any Government Department or Government Autonomous organization.
iii) A letter from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being sponsored to seek admission to the M.Tech program. The employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway till the completion of the course and the candidate will be fully under the administrative control of the Institute for the period of the course, and will be paid full salary by his/her employer for the duration of the course.

The applicatio nform for above programs can be downloaded form this site. 3% seats are reserved for Physically Handicapped category. No seats are available for Sponsored catetroy in Enviornmental Engg. Course. In all Categories, the GATE qualififed canidates will be given first prefrence.

Please note that candiaes havin gqualification M.Sc. in Physics, or Chemistry or Materials Science are eligible to apply for the M.Tech course in Mateials Engineering.

The completed application form along with attested copes of relevant documents/ certificates and corssed DD of RS.500/- drawn in favour of The Director, VNIT, Nagpur payable at Nagpur must reach the Dy. Registra (Academic), VNIT, South Ambazari Road, Nagpur-440010 on or before 26th June 2008.

Separate application form must be submitted for each course along with the prescribed fees.


Please also note that:
1. No Separate interview calls will be sent to candidates. They should attend the written test/interview as per the schedule given in this prospectus.
2. Candidates must submit separate original application form with processing fees for seeking admission to each M.Tech Program as given in the Table 1. If a candidate submits only one form for two or more M Tech Courses, it will be considered only for the serially first M Tech Program mentioned in the application form.
3. Hostel accommodation for M. Tech. students is not guaranteed and shall be offered on availability.

Important Points Related to M. Tech. Admission
1. Non-GATE candidates who are admitted to M Tech program shall not be eligible for stipend/scholarship.
2. Candidates with valid GATE Score admitted under quota of stipendiary seats (refer table 1) only are eligible for stipend as per rules of the institute.
3. GATE candidates desirous of seeking admission to M Tech program(s) under any of the categories (Except Programs offered by Deptt. Of Computer Science and Electronics) (refer Table 1) are not required to appear for entrance test/interview.
4. Non-Gate candidates desirous of seeking admission to M Tech programs under any of the categories (ref. Table 1) are required to appear for Written Test/Interviews.
5. In all category the GATE candidates will get preference over Non-GATE candidates.

DIRECTOR

The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) (formerly VRCE), Nagpur is one of the first six Regional Engineering Colleges established under the scheme sponsored by Government of India and the State Governments. The College was established in June 1960 and named after the eminent engineer, planner and statesman of the country Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Over the years, this Institution has gained recognition as an important National Institution in the field of Technical Education & research. Apart from imparting professional education at Under Graduate and Post Graduate levels, the Institute has been extending available expertise to various Govt./Semi-Govt. and private organisations through testing and consultancy works. Admission Notice for M.Sc.(Biochemistry) & Ph.D.(Biochemistry) Programmes in School of Biochemistry.

School of Biochemistry is an independent school offering M.Sc. (Biochemistry) and Ph.D. (Biochemistry) programmes. The postgraduate course is of two years duration, slit in four semesters including project work in the last semester. The curriculum designing has wide applicability to various disciplines, which require biochemistry background. The syllabus covers all the major areas of Biochemistry including basic, advanced as well as specialized courses.

Biochemistry is mainly research field and after post graduation the student have opportunity to join Ph.D. programme. After M.Sc, the student may find openings in pharmaceutical and food Industries, bioinformatics, medical field etc.

For Admission to M.Sc. Biochemistry course application forms will be available from the school on payment of Rs.300/-, if required by post) in the form of demand draft in favour of "Registrar, DAVV, Indore". The completed forms should be addressed to the Head, School of Biochemistry, Devi Ahilya University, Khandwa Road, Indore 452017. the School will conduct the entrance test on 4 July 2008 at 11 AM.

The Science graduates with chemistry and any two of biology subjects, such as Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology etc. and having minimum 55% marks in aggregate of three years are eligible for admission to the course. The candidate must submit photocopies of all the mark sheets with the form, otherwise the candidature will not be considered.

All admissions are based on merit prepared form score in the entrance test plus B.Sc.% plus weightage, if any. Last five candidates as per merit under are admitted under self-finance category. Separate merit list is prepared for reserve category. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC and other are as per government policy.

Fees structure: As per university rules for regular course fees. For Self Finance category, in addition to regular fee, approx. Rs.2500/- per semester is charged.

AIMS:
The aim of the School is to provide the facilities for the higher studies in Physics to the students, Scholars and scientists. They can avail the facilities for the understanding of the recent and especially thrust fields of research in the subject. We offer various courses for the students suiting to their different needs. Pursuit of research is a important activity of the school;.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES :

ELIGIBILITY:
M.Sc.(Physics): B.Sc.(Physics and Mathematics) with 50% Marks.
M.Sc.(Physics-Material Science): B.Sc.(Physics and Mathematics) with 50% Marks.
M.Sc.(Physics by Research): Candidates working in research organization with 50% marks in B.Sc.(Phy. & Math’s)
M.Tech.(Laser Science and Applications): M.Sc.(Physics/Applied Physics/Electronics), B.E./ B.Tech(Electrical/Electronics) With at least 55% of marks.
M.Phil(Physics): M.Sc.(Physics/Applied Physics) with 55% marks.

NOTE: Candidate whose results are awaited can also apply for provisional admission.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
M.Sc.(Physics Physics by research Physics-Material Science) :
On the basis of the performance in the interview. A screening entrance test will be held as per schedule given below. Candidates with First Class in B.Sc. will be directly interviewed. Others will be called for interview after successfully clearing a written test. M.Sc. (by research) candidates must be an employee in a scientific organization of national repute.

M.Tech.(Laser Science and App.):
Selection will be based on comprehensive interview of GATE qualified candidates. Those without GATE qualifications will be interviewed after clearing a written test conducted by the School.
Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.

M.Phil (Physics):
On the basis of entrance examination conducted by the School followed by a comprehensive interview.
