All India Competitive Examination for Admission to Ph.D. Programme for the academic session 2008-2009 commencing from 01.10.2008 will be held on 24th August 2008 (Sunday) at Mumbai.

N.B.: The candidates should opt for any one of the disciplines and he/she is required to appear for the entrance test in the same discipline. Option once exercised cannot be changed under any condition.

Numbers of seats are tentative and likely to be changed without prior notice.

*Separate entrance tests will be conducted for different disciplines.

** Seats are reserved for first category. In case suitable candidates is not found form that category then seats will be filled through the other reserved category and in case a candidate f reserved category is not found suitable, the seat will be treated as vacant. In addition one seat each in reserved for Physically Handicapped and Kashmiri migrants. Reservation to the candidates belonging to OBC category will be introduced as per the directive to be received form ICAR. There is a provision for admitting in-service candidates form ICAR Institutes/SAUs/CAU/State Fisheries Departments. In-Service candidates will be required to qualify in the written entrance test. The CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR fellows and the candidates cleared through other national level fellowships will be admitted over and above the allotted seats.

ELIGIBILITY:
B.F.Sc. & M.F.Sc. (4+2 yrs) or B.Sc. & M.Sc. (3 yrs) from CIFE (till 1995) will OGPA 7.5 out of 10 and 3.75 out of 5 and OGPA for SC/ST candidates is 7.00 out of 10 and 3.50 out of 5. (OR) D.F.Sc. provided candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in biological science and has two years of experience in fisheries development work after obtaining D.F.Sc.
In case of sponsored candidates, those holding M.Sc. in Fish and Fisheries and related disciplines with at least two years experience in fisheries development work are also eligible to apply.

AGE LIMIT:
The minimum age for admission shall be 22 years as on 30th September 2008. No relaxation in age limit is permitted. NO age limit for in-service candidates.

FELLOWSHIP:
There is provision for awarding institutional fellowship to selected candidates @10,500/- per month and Rs.1000/- to the in-service candidates from ICAR Institutes/SAUs/CAU but there is no provision for Institutional fellowship for the selected candidates from State Fisheries Department.

The application form and information bulletin can also be downloaded form CIFE website: www.cife.edu.in However, such application shall be submitted along with the demand draft for Rs.300/- as mentioned above.

GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The duration of the M.Pharm. Programme is 24 months.
2. Prior to regular admission to the Ph.D. Programme at a QIP cell, a candidate is required to join a pre-Ph.D. contact programme. The duration of the pre-Ph.D. programme is 60 days (see section VIII) and that of the regular Ph.D. degree programme is 3 years.
3. Reservations for candidates belonging to SC / ST / Physically Challenged categories as per rules of AICTE.
4. Advance copies will not be accepted. Where the applications are to be submitted through Proper Channel, the candidate and the concerned Principal /Head of the Institution should ensure that the forwarding authority sends the applications to the Office of Principal QIP Coordinator before the last date. Applications received after 14.05.2008 will not be considered.
5. The Registration number should be quoted in all future correspondence related to admissions, and such correspondence should be routed through the Principal / Head of the candidate’s institution.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS:
1. Full–time, regular / permanent faculty members of AICTE approved Pharmacy Colleges are only eligible to apply.
2. The candidate should possess:

For M.Pharm. Programme
First Class Degree (60% in aggregate wherever class is not awarded) in Pharmacy from a recognized Institution / University
A minimum of two years teaching experience as full-time regular /permanent faculty of AICTE approved Degree / Diploma level Pharmacy Institutions

For Ph.D. Degree Programme
First Class Degree (60% in aggregate wherever class is not awarded) at Master's Level in the appropriate branch of specialization in Pharmacy from a recognized Institution / University.
A minimum of three-years teaching experience as full-time regular / permanent faculty of AICTE approved Degree / Diploma level Pharmacy Institutions

The candidate should satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria prescribed by the individual Department (and/or the Institution) to which admission is sought.
Guest Lecturers, Visiting Lecturers, Teaching Assistants, Ad-hoc/Contract or Part-time Teachers, Technical Assistants, and other such categories of staff are not eligible.

3. Faculty members of the QIP cells are not eligible to apply in the same institution.
4. The faculty members belonging to the institutions run by the same management of QIP centre are not eligible to apply to that QIP centre.
5. A maximum of two candidates are selected from each institution per year, one in M. Pharm and one in Ph. D.
6. The candidate, if selected and admitted, should be on deputation and his/her normal salary and allowances are to be paid by the parent institution.
7. The candidate selected for admission under QIP will have to execute an undertaking to serve his/her parent institution for a minimum period of three years after completion of the programme.

SCHOLARSHIP AND CONTINGENCY GRANT
M.Pharm. scholarship - Rs. 2,500/- per month
Contingency - Rs. 3,000/- per year
Ph.D. scholarship - Rs. 6,000/- per month
Contingency - Rs. 10,000/- per annum.

Admission Test:

Interview:

The admission decision will be communicated after the interview. All the selected candidates will be required to pay the admission fee after the admission decision is announced on or before July 12, 2008.

Past Academic Record:

Two years teaching experience of a candidate in a recognized school outside Tamil Nadu shall also apply. However, such candidates must be in service in a recognized school in Tamil Nadu while applying.

Teaching experience in different schools will be taken into account for two years of service. There may be a break in the two years of teaching experience. But, the candidate must be currently working in a recognized School.

Candidates having a UG Degree in Economics/ Sociology / Philosophy / Psychology/ Political Science / Corporate Secretaryship / Commerce / Business Administration are not eligible.

Candidates having a Cross-Major Subject in PG Degree (that is, PG subjects different from UG subjects) are not eligible (For example, candidates with B.A Economics and M.A History).

Input Qualification:
Any Higher Degree of BITS or its equivalent. Any applicant with qualification equivalent to Integrated first degree of BITS will be first examined for suitability to one of the higher degree programmes of the Institute.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test/interview for selections. Selected candidates will be given financial assistance in the form of either a fellowship of any government agency or of the Institute, project or teaching assistantship, full/partial tuition waiver or a combination of these.
Employed professionals working in Industries and R&D Organizations having long experience and proven competence aspiring for Ph.D. programme will be considered under the 'Ph.D. Aspirants' scheme and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own locations of work. Candidates holding any of the BITS degree or working in an organization collaborating with BITS will be considered under this scheme.

Note:
(i) Admission to all Higher degree Programmes except MPH are based on the performance of the candidates in the computer based online test conducted by BITS followed by interviews of shortlisted candidates. The tests are planned to be conducted at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi (Noida), Hyderabad, Kolkatta, Nagpur, Pilani & Goa subject to a certain minimum number of candidates opting for each center. The tests will have objective type questions (multiple choice) only and will be conducted during 21st – 22nd June 2008. Based on test performance candidates will be shortlisted and asked to come to Pilani/Goa for interviews at their own cost. The final selection is based on the performance in the tests and interviews. (ii) For MBA Programme, shortlisted candidates called for interviews at Pilani will also have to appear for a test in Reading Comprehension and a Group Discussion.
(iii) Admission to MPH are based on the performance of the candidates in a written test, followed by Group discussion and interviews which will be conducted in Pilani on 26th July 2008.
(iv) For the Ph.D. Programme short listed candidates will be asked to come to Pilani for interview at their own cost.
(v) ASSISTANTSHIPS FOR TEACHING CAREER:
Applicants for admission to the higher degree and Ph.D. programmes will also be considered for financial assistance in the form of Teaching/Project/Research Assistantships. Such selected candidates will be required to participate in teaching and other developmental programme of the Institute under the guidance of a mentor. Assistantships with full fee waiver will be provided to such candidates.
