Eligibility:
A Bachelor's degree under the 10+2+3 system in any field of study awarded by a University or Institute incorporated by law and recognized by this University with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in the aggregate shall constitute the minimum requirement for admission to the Programs. Candidates completing their final examination of the bachelor's degree by June 30, 2010 can also apply as provisional candidates. However, they need to submit proof of passing the under graduation degree with stipulated percentage of marks by July 16, 2010.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
The candidates for admission to the Program shall be selected through applicant's performance in the CAT (COMMON ADMISSION TEST) to be conducted by the Indian Institute of Management from 28th November to 7th December 2009 at various test centers in India (Please refer to the CAT advertisements in national dailies of August 2009 for details). Suitable sectional cut-off depending upon relative performance in written test will be applied to shortlist the candidates to be called for counseling.
RESERVATION AND FEES
Reservation shall be applied in each program as per University / U.P. Government rules. The fee structure is subject to revision and the revised fee shall be applicable.
The fees is to be paid for General and OBC Category is Rs.900 and for SC and ST is Rs.600

ADMISSION 2009
CDS invites applications for admission to its full-time residential programme, leading to PhD in Economics of the Jawaharlal Nehru University or the University of Kerala.
The Programme has a strong orientation towards Development Studies with a core economics component and encourages cross-disciplinary inputs. Core areas of research at CDS and the current themes of PhD studies are listed elsewhere.
Eligibility
Master’s with ≥ 55% marks and MPhil with FGPA of at least 6.0 (high second class) in Economics or related disciplines in Development Studies.
Those awaiting award of the MPhil Degree can also apply.
SC,ST & PH candidates eligible irrespective of percentage of marks.
Those who do not have an MPhil may be considered in exceptional cases of merit, if having at least two years’ research experience in a University/Research Institution and research publications in refereed academic journals.
Foreign nationals and those who have undergone the qualifying Programmes abroad will be eligible subject to clarification on equivalence of their Degrees by the University.
Financial Assistance
All the selected candidates will be offered Fellowships, available under various schemes.
ICSSR Institutional Doctoral Fellowships Six: presently @ Rs. 6,000 per month for those who have cleared NET for lectureship and @ Rs. 5,000 for those who have not cleared the NET. The Fellowships carry an annual contingency Grant of Rs. 12,000 and have a tenure 3 Years. ICSSR is considering revision of the tenure and emoluments; pending such revision, CDS has augmented this scheme to provide stipend @ Rs. 6,000 for all and an additional fourth year. Further, ICSSR has earmarked one fellowship for University/College Teachers which will have a tenure of two years and with salary protection.
CDS Endowment Fellowships: Two fellowships under the National Research Programme on Plantation Development, funded by the Government of India Ministry of Commerce, are available to selected scholars who plan to work on aspects of Plantation Development. These Fellowships have a maximum tenure of four years; emoluments are presently at ICSSR rates, but are likely to be revised..
Selected scholars can avail of the UGC’s JRF and the RGNF for SC/ST candidates, if awarded such fellowships by the UGC. The schemes provide fellowship @ Rs. 12,000 for the first two years and @ Rs. 14,000 for the final three years.
Selected scholars from SC/ST communities of Kerala can seek assistance under the Government of Kerala Fellowship Scheme which is of UGC Fellowship tenure and 75% of UGC rates.

Selection
The selection process has two phases:
First, candidates will be short–listed for Interview on the basis of their scores for Academic Record and Study Proposal
- Evaluation of the Research Proposal by a faculty panel.
- Score for the Academic Record on a weighted scheme:
(2 x % of marks for the +2 course) + (3 x % marks for Bachelor’s) + (5 x % of Marks for Master’s) + (5 x % of marks for MPhil).
Coursework grades will be reckoned for those awaiting award of MPhil Degree
Final selection will be based on a personal Interview by the Admission Committee, comprising of CDS faculty as well as an ICSSR nominee. The Committee shall base its recommendations on an assessment of the viability of the proposed study, whether it can be undertaken at CDS and the candidate’s aptitude and capability to undertake the study. Applicants are encouraged to take note of the current areas of research and research interests of the faculty at CDS.
The Personal Interviews are scheduled at CDS on 07 January 2010

BITS Pilani Second Semester Admissions 2010

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is an institution declared as Deemed to be University invites applications for admission in the second semester starting from January 2010 to the following programmes.
1. Integrated First Degree Programmes
B.E. (Hons.);
B.Pharm. (Hons.);
M.Sc.(Hons.) and
M .Sc.(Tech.) offered by the Institute at its Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad Campuses.
Admissions will be made purely on merit. Only Candidates who have appeared and obtained valid scores in BITSAT-2009 test conducted during May-June 2009 are eligible to apply. The merit position of the candidates for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT-2009. Candidates should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th examination. Note: Since major admissions are made in the first semester, only a very few seats are available in the second semester, while more seats are available in B.Pharm. (Hons.).
2. Higher Degree Programmes
Duration: Normally four semesters.
Eligibility: Candidates obtaining a minimum of aggregate 60% marks in the qualifying degree examination.
(i) at BITS, Pilani- Pilani Campus:
M.E. : Chemical; Civil (with specialization in Structural Engineering/Infrastructure Systems); Communication Engineering; Computer Science; Mechanical; Software Systems.
M.Pharm Master of Public Health (MPH).
(ii) at BITS, Pilani- Hyderabad Campus:
M.Pharm.
Admissions to Higher degree Programmes are based on the performance of the candidates in the computer based online test conducted by BITS followed by interviews of shortlisted candidates. The tests will be held at Pilani, Goa & Hyderabad. The tests will have objective type questions (multiple choices) only and will be conducted during 19th - 20th December 2009. Further short listed candidates will be asked to come to Pilani/Hyderabad on 4th January 2010 for interview at their own cost and the final selection is based on the performance in the tests and interviews. Admissions to MPH are based on the performance of the candidate in a written test, Group discussion and interviews to be conducted in Pilani on4th January2010. Note: Offering of Programmes will depend upon the minimum number of suitable candidates for the particular programme.

3. Ph.D. Programme at BITS Campuses in Pilani, Goa & Hyderabad
Input Qualification: Any Higher Degree of BITS or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate in the qualifying examination.
Any applicant with qualification equivalent to integrated first degree of BITS will be first examined for suitability to one of the higher degree programmes of the Institute. Such candidates may first be admitted to the M.E./ M.Phil, programmes offered by the Institute subject to the eligibility conditions.
Industries and R&D organizations collaborating with BITS can sponsor candidates to work for the Ph.D. under the Ph.D. aspirants scheme. Under this scheme such employed professionals having long experience and proven competence are admitted and will be allowed to pursue their research work at their own locations. Employed professionals working in Industries holding any of the BITS degree may also be considered underthis scheme.

A candidate can apply for a maximum of 4 courses only (Medical & Non-Medical inclusive) provided they are eligible.
The Application fee for both Medical & Non-Medical courses is Rs 1000/- per course for General candidates and Rs 750/- per course for SC/ST candidates
Foreign Nationals are required to submit their applications through the Diplomatic Channel (through the Ministry of External Affairs). They shall also appear for the common Entrance Test along with the other candidates.
