Andrews Federal Scholarship 2010 for High School Seniors and other College Students


Andrews Federal awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors and other college students seeking a higher education. As college costs continue to increase, Andrews Federal provides scholarships to help our members achieve their education goals.

Awards: This year, Andrews Federal is awarding eight $1,500 non-renewable scholarships for tuition and books. Any member or member’s dependent at least 16 years old with an account in good standing by January 1, 2010 is eligible to apply.

Eligibility: Applicants must be pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university. Applications will be judged on an essay composition, community service and recommendations.

Application Procedure: Applications are available in our branches. Applications must be received at our U.S. Headquarters (5711 Allentown Road, Suitland, MD 20746) by April 16, 2010 to be considered eligible to win. Winners will be notified by May 14, 2010.

PG Programme in Infrastructure Management Admission 2010

PGPIM is a One-Year, full time, residential, Post Graduate Programme in Infrastructure Management. PGPIM, a unique programme in Infrastructure Management, had been launched from September, 2009.

Many European Business Schools and some American Business Schools have been offering a One-Year full time Executive MBA Programme for over two decades now. Until recently, the Business Schools in India were offering only Two-Year MBA Programmes. However, in recent years, several reputed Indian Business Schools have also launched One-Year Post Graduate Programmes and many of these programmes are very well received by both participants as well as recruiters.

Pedagogy: Courses offered in PGPIM will employ a mix of pedagogical methods including Case Discussion & Analysis, Lectures, Group Exercises, Simulations, Presentations, Role Plays, Project Work and Field Visits to enhance the effectiveness and richness of learning and in-class experience. Special emphasis will be laid on the Case Method as a dominant mode of instruction.

Eligibility: The programme is meant for bright & young executives with significant work experience. The candidate should have

Fee Details: Programme Fee for the Second Batch (2010 -11) will be INR 12.50 Lakhs. The Institute of Mathematical Sciences – Chennai


Visiting Students Programme in Theoretical Physics

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences has a limited programme for highly motivated bachelor’s and master’s students interested in doing theoretical work in Physics to visit the Institute. This is typically for any 6 weeks in the 2 months during the summer (May-July).
This is a limited programme, depending on the availability of infrastructure facilities and faculty guides.
We typically select about 10-15 students.

Academic Requirements:
Students currently studying in their pre-final or final year of BSc/BE/BTech or first year MSc/ME/MTech or equivalent with a good academic record are encouraged to apply.

Our interests are varied, and applicants should check the Theoretical Physics page for more details on our physics interests.
This year, we invite applications from highly motivated students interested in the following areas of research in the Institute’s Summer Student Programme in Physics:

Condensed Matter Physics and Statistical Mechanics including complex systems, disordered systems, high Tc superconductivity, nonequilibrium processes, superfluidity and physics of biological membranes, High Energy Physics including perturbative QCD, CP violation and B physics, neutrino physics, nonperturbative QCD, lattice gauge theory, quark gluon plasma, astroparticle physics, quantum field theory, topological QFT, conformal field theory, lattice gauge theory, quantum field theory, string theory, classical and quantum gravity, black holes, cosmology, foundations of quantum theory, Mathematical Physics including group theory and quantum computation, Non-linear Dynamics including solitons and chaos, Optics including classical and quantum optics, beam physics, and quantum information theory.

Details of the Summer Programme:
Selected students will be paid 2nd class round trip train fare plus Rs. 200 per diem.
Accommodation will be provided in the Hostel during summer, subject to availability.
As accommodation is limited, it may not be provided for local students.

Master of Business Administration Admission 2010

Being thoroughly grounded in the Social Sciences, the Department was well poised to take off – a new venture into Management Studies. The Department started a new Post-Graduate programme, Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the academic year 2007-08. The Programme received an overwhelming response. This program was designed to meet the increasing demand for quality manpower in the globalised scenario. The intake capacity for an initial period was 40 seats. With implementation of OBC reservation, the course intake has been raised to 51 in the academic year 2008-09.

Eligibility criterion for selection to MBA programme:
Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university with not less than 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in the aggregate, taking into account the marks scored in all subjects of all the University Examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period of the degree programme. Final year students can also apply but admission is subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
CAT Score: Admission is based on the Rank/Score obtained in the CAT and Group Discussion and Interview.

MBA Curriculum: The curriculum / programme of instruction consists of the following:
Credit based curriculum.
2 year duration MBA programme divided into 4 semesters.
Foundation courses (7), Core courses (7) & Advanced courses (5) that have to be compulsorily taken by all the students of the programme.
Elective courses are offered in 4 different groups of specialization: Human Resource Management, Marketing, Finance, & Operations.
Laboratory courses.
Seminars.
Mini projects.
Major Project of 28 credits is undertaken in fourth semester.

Selection Procedure: Selection of candidates for admission to MBA programme will be made on the basis of scores of CAT 2009 among the candidates applied to NITK, Surathkal. Group discussion and interview will follow.

The two year Post Graduate Programme is aimed at all-round development and creation of a professionally trained manager so that he/she can step into the role of a manager in the industry immediately after leaving this Institution. Lok Sabha Internship Programme 2010


Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training

Applications are invited in the prescribed format for five Internship Positions for a one-year Internship Programme in the Lok Sabha. The Internship Programme is aimed to provide an opportunity to young men and women with outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements to acquaint themselves with the working of parliamentary democracy and democratic institutions in general and specifically about the Indian parliamentary system. The Programme also aims at imparting requisite skills and knowledge to enable the Interns to develop a proper perspective about the role of Legislature in the parliamentary system which, in turn, would help them while working in their own chosen fields in future.

Duration: The duration of the Internship Programme will be one year, starting March 2010 and ending February 2011.

Eligibility:
Age: The Internship shall be open to Indian citizens between 21 and 28 years of age as on 31st December 2009.

Qualifications: The applicant should have completed a two-year Post-Graduate Degree from a recognised Indian or Foreign University with 55% marks in any of the areas/disciplines such as Social Sciences, Law, Journalism, Finance, Management, etc.
The applicant should submit a recommendation letter from the Principal of College/Head of the Institution he/she last attended or is enrolled in to pursue higher studies along with the completed application form. The applicant must also submit a brief statement in 250 words which should inter alia state why he/she intends to join the Internship Programme; his/her career goals; and how the Internship will help him/her in achieving those goals. The short listed applicants will be called to appear for an Interview.

Stipend and Other Facilities: The Interns will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs. 18,000/- per month during the Internship period. In addition, a sum of Rs. 10,000/- shall be given as a one-time expenditure towards stationery and typing expenses. Expenses on accommodation, travelling, etc. shall be borne by the Interns themselves.

The selected Interns will have to sign a Memorandum of Undertaking and conditions attached thereto separately. The Lok Sabha Secretariat shall have all right to cancel the Internship awarded to any Intern, without stating any reason, during the course of the Programme at any point of time. The Lok Sabha Secretariat shall issue a Certificate to the Interns on the successful completion of the Internship Programme.
