The TOEFL Scholar Program 2010 – ETS


ETS has developed a scholarship programme to recognise outstanding students in India who will begin their postgraduate studies in the U.K., U.S. or Canada in 2010. The programme will recognise students with high academic achievement who have demonstrated leadership skills, innovative ideas and an outstanding ability to communicate in English.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
* Be an undergraduate or graduate student currently living in India who will begin postgraduate study in the U.K., U.S. or Canada in 2010
* Have an overall grade percentage of 60 or above
* Demonstrate English proficiency with your TOEFL scores
Application Procedure: Before filling out the TOEFL Scholarship application:
* Take the TOEFL test and receive your scores. On your scholarship application, you will need to provide your total score and section scores, test date, test centre number, registration number and the ETS ID number from your registration confirmation.
* Complete an intent form that indicates you wish to apply for the TOEFL Scholar Programme. Please include your TOEFL registration number and ETS ID number on your intent form. After we receive your intent form, we will create a file for you and place all your scholarship documents in the file. Since only complete application files will be considered, we will contact you if any documentation is missing.
* Download and print the application form. List all universities in the U.K., U.S. and Canada to which you have applied. Please note that if you are selected as a scholarship winner, you will be required to provide an acceptance letter from an accredited university.
* Collect all academic and examination transcripts from all the higher education institutions you have attended.
* Collect two letters of recommendation.
* One from a professor or university official who is familiar with your academic contribution and accomplishments (must be on university letterhead)
* One from an employer or from a personal contact (not a friend, classmate or family member) who has knowledge of your activities outside the classroom such as extracurricular activities, community service, work experience, etc. (must be on letterhead of the organisation)
* Start to compose your written response to the essay question listed on the TOEFL Scholarship Application.
* Write your TOEFL registration number on all documents, including transcripts and letters of recommendation, in order for your application file to be considered complete.

All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination(AIEEE/AIAEE) 2010


Programme of Action (PoA), 1992 under the National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986 envisaged conduct of a common entrance examination on all India basis for admission to professional and technical programmes in the country. For admission to Engineering and Architecture/Planning programmes, Government of India vide Resolution dated 18th October 2001 has laid down a Three – Exam Scheme (JEE and AIEEE at the National Level and the State Level Engineering Entrance Examinations (SLEEE) for State Level Institutions – with an option to join AIEEE). This takes care of varying admission standards in these programmes and helps in maintenance of professional standards. This also solves problems of overlaps and reduces physical, mental and financial burden on students and their parents due to multiplicity of entrance examinations.

Examination Scheme: Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e. 1st paper consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for BE/B.Tech courses and 2nd paper – consisting of Mathematics,Aptitude Test and Drawing for B. Architecture and B. Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.
Eligibility: The minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE 2010 is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination (see Appendix –VIII). Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also appear in AIEEE 2010 for consideration of provisional admission. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class 12) in 2011 are not eligible to appear in AIEEE-2010.

Result Declaration: On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists will be prepared for B.E./B.Tech. and B.Arch/B.Planning. Score Card indicating All India Rank and State Rank with total marks and marks in each subject shall be sent to all candidates appearing in AIEEE.

MBBS Admission 2010
The Banaras Hindu University will hold All India Competitive Written Test for admission to MBBS course (84 seats) in TWO stages: PMT-2010 SCREENING and PMT-2010 MAIN, and for BDS (38 seats), BAMS (78 seats) and B. Pharm. (33 seats) courses in ONE stage: PMT-2010 Screening. PMT-2010 SCREENING shall be held on Wednesday, the 12th May 2010 at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Centres, to screen candidates for eligibility to appear in PMT-2010 MAIN examination for MBBS course which will be held on Sunday, the 13th June 2010 at Varanasi Centre only. For BDS/BAMS/B.Pharm. courses, candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit in the PMT-2010 SCREENING only.

Eligibility: Passed Intermediate, 10+2 or equivalent examination in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology + Botany) taken together; (i) For MBBS/BDS/BAMS – a minimum of 50% for General, OBC and respective PC candidates and 40% aggregate marks for SC/ST and respective PC candidates; (ii) For B.Pharm. – a minimum of 60% marks for General, OBC and respective PC candidates and 55% aggregate marks for SC/ST and respective PC candidates. Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply.
How to Apply: From the Office of the Director (PMT-Cell), Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221 005 by sending a written request through Registered Post along with Crossed Demand Draft/Bankers Cheque (MICR only) of Rs. 1200/- (Rs. 800/- for SC/ST candidates) of a Nationalized Bank, drawn in favour of “The Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU” payable at Varanasi. Application form will be sent by Speed / Registered Post. However, Institute will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay.

Rules: The request for application form must include the name and address of the candidate, and full particulars of the enclosed DD/BC (write candidate’s name and address on the back of DD). Two self-addressed, preferably typed, white paper slips of 10 cm ´ 6 cm size MUST also accompany it. The ENVELOP containing requisition for PMT application form should be super scribed “Request for Application for PMT-2010, BHU”. Last date of requisition for PMT form by post is Friday, the 19th February 2010. Incomplete/non-cashable Draft (under amount/unsigned/ without Bank Code No. & Seal) shall not be accepted.

Andhra University announces for Research Common Entrance Test (AURCET 2010) for admission into research programmes offered in campus colleges, P.G centers, and recognized research centers in affiliated colleges and research organizations.
Directorate of Admissions, Andhra University will process admissions into Full-time /Part-time M. Phil. and Full-time / Part-time / Extramural / Inter-disciplinary Ph.D. programmes in the subject areas indicated in Admissions Brochure available at http://www.andhrauniversity.info , for the year 2010 as per the guidelines stipulated by the Board of Research Studies, Andhra University

Candidates having PG degree in Science or Arts Courses and seeking admission into Full Time M. Phil or Ph. D programmes must appear for the ENTRANCE TEST (AURCET-2010) conducted by the Directorate of Admissions. However, candidates with M. Phil or Professional post graduate degree in the respective subject or qualified in UGC-CSIR NET, ICMR, are exempted from the test. Eligible In-Service Candidates seeking admission into PART TIME programmes are also exempted from the test.

The P.G. Degrees of all U.G.C. recognized Universities in India will be treated as equivalent to P.G. Degrees of Andhra University. However, PG Degrees of other Universities obtained through distance mode should have been recognized by DEC.

M.Phil / M.Tech. / LLM / M.Pharm, degrees obtained through distance mode will not be considered for any purpose as equivalent to degrees obtained through regular study.

Candidates from outside the state of Andhra Pradesh seeking M.Phil. / Ph.D. (FT) admissions will be considered only when the list of eligible candidates from with in the state gets exhausted.

M.Phil and Ph.D admissions for candidates from foreign countries will be given as extra seats in concurrence with the DRC of respective departments and in consultation with International Student's Advisor. A separate fee structure will be adopted for such applicants.

Part Time M.Phil / Ph.D admissions will be given only to in-service candidates working in colleges and institutions / organizations recognized by Andhra University, satisfying the minimum required service and other prescribed conditions.

Money paid once towards registration fee / Late fee / Processing fee / Course fee will not be refunded.

All disputes pertaining to AURCET-2010 shall fall within the courts jurisdiction of Visakhapatnam only whether regular or consumer courts.

Candidates who have already appeared or appearing for the final semester or final year examinations of the qualifying degree in April / May - 2010 can also apply for AURCET-2010.

HOW TO APPLY:

4. A candidate seeking admission in more than one programme (M. Phil / Ph. D) has to submit separate applications in duplicate. Similarly a candidate seeking admission in more than one department or center has to submit separate applications in duplicate with corresponding Statement of Research Interest (SRI)
5. The name and subject of the applicant should be written on the reverse side of the

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Research Programmes for the award of M. Phil or Ph. D degrees can be pursued in the Faculties of Arts, Law, Science, Engineering and Pharmaceutical Sciences by candidates possessing minimum qualifications prescribed under eligibility Criteria for admission into various faculties

FULL-TIME M. PHIL / Ph. D:
(a) Post-graduate degree holders with at least 55% of marks (50% in the case of SC/ST Candidates) or equivalent CGPA in the concerned subject as prescribed in eligibility criteria can apply for full-time M. Phil. / Ph.D. degree. They must appear for AURCET-2010
(b) Candidates qualified in UGC/CSIR-NET / ICMR (with fellowship) or possessing M.Phil. / M. L. or LLM / M. E. / M. Tech. / M. Pharmacy / M. S / M.D degree are exempted from AURCET-2010.

PART-TIME M. PHIL / Ph. D:
(a). In-Service candidates satisfying the above eligibility conditions can apply for part-time. Admission into part-time programmes will be made in the specified order of priority (Please see page - 5 - VI-2) with service seniority in each category.
(b). M. Phil. degree holders will be given priority in each category.
(c). In-Service candidates seeking admission into part-time programmes are exempted from AURCET-2010

Extramural:
For admission into Ph.D. programme under Extramural category, the research institution where the candidate is working should have been recognized by A.U. and there should be an internal guide (Principal guide) recognised by A.U. from the same institution. Admission under Extramural category will be given for the following candidates.
(a) Scientists with P.G. or equivalent degree working in research institutions recognized by Andhra University having at least two years of experience.
(b) Research scholars with P.G. or equivalent degree having fellowship attached to institutions recognized by Andhra University.

Inter-Disciplinary Research (IDR):
Candidates who wish to carry out research work relating to more than one discipline can be considered for registration for Ph.D. under 'Interdisciplinary' category. Such candidates should submit a 'Statement of Purpose' along with the admission application form. The statement may contain the objective, definition of the problem, proposed methodology and justification. The Statement of Purpose should also contain information on the disciplines involved and the post graduate degree possessed by the candidate. The same will be discussed in the Departmental Research Committee meetings of the concerned academic departments, for its scope and viability from scientific and logistic points of view, in which the major part of the research work needs to be carried out. The candidate will be registered in the discipline in which he/she has secured the qualifying degree.

Candidates who are admitted under this category will have the Principal guide from the department in which the candidate is registered and the co-guide(s) from the other disciplines involved. The Pre-Ph.D degree examination needs to be taken in the department where the candidate registers.

Candidates once admitted under this category under full-time or part-time will not be permitted to transfer their registration from one department to the other.

ENTRANCE TEST:
. General:
. Common Entrance test (AURCET-2010) for admission into Full time M. Phil & Ph.D programmes in various Science and Arts and some Engineering faculties will be conducted by the Directorate of Admissions in VISAKHAPATNAM only.
. The test codes, the names of the departments and different M.Phil / Ph.D programmes offered along with the eligibility criteria are given in Annexure - I of the AURCET Information Brochure.
. The Common entrance test (AURCET-2010) for each subject / department consists of two papers with multiple choice objective type questions.
. Paper-I shall be of 45 minutes duration with 50 multiple choice questions for 50 marks. Paper-I is common for all Science and Engineering Subjects / Departments as the case may be. Similarly Paper-I is common for all Arts Subjects / Departments for 50 marks with 45 minutes duration. Paper-I of Science stream is different from Paper-I of Arts stream.
. Paper-II shall be of 90 minutes duration with 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks in the concerned subject for which the syllabus is given in Annexure-II. Paper-II will be different for each department.
. Based on the number of seats available and the number of applications received, the University reserves the right to conduct or not to conduct the test.
. Based on the eligibility criteria and the research interest of the candidate, he/she has to choose only one test for admission into that particular department. In case if a candidate wants to seek admission in more than one department (subject) he/she has to submit separate application and has to appear for separate tests in Paper-I and Paper-II depending on the case.

Those who obtain a minimum of 40% in Paper-I and Paper-II put together (35% in case of SC & ST candidates) only will be eligible for presentation of Statement of Research Interest (SRI) or interview. Those who do not obtain the above mentioned cutoff mark will not be considered for admission
