About College: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. The first school of social work in India, the TISS was a pioneering effort, characteristic of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT). Its establishment was the result of the decision of the Trustees of the SDTT to accept Dr. Clifford Manshardt’s vision of a post-graduate school of social work.

Eligibility: (a) A Bachelor’s Degree of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognised university, in any discipline. OR



(b) Candidates who will complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor’s Degree examinations by Saturday, June 11, 2011, are also eligible to apply to all the programmes, except the four programmes offered by the School of Health Systems Studies; provided they have successfully completed their first and second years, if the degree course is of 3 years; and the first, second and third years, if the degree course is of 4 years. Candidates applying for the M.A. Education (Elementary) programme should complete all the requirements by May 8, 2011. In such cases, admission to any of the Master’s Degree Programmes of the Institute will be provisional. If a provisionally admitted student fails in the final year examination, the offer of provisional admission automatically stands cancelled.



(c) Candidates applying for the Master of Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance; and Master of Public Health in Social Epidemiology Programmes should have (i) A Master’s Degree in any discipline, or (ii) A Bachelor’s Degree in medicine/para-medical courses.



(d) Candidates who are in their final year Bachelor’s Degree Programme are not eligible to apply for admission to any of the Master’s Degree programmes, conducted by School of Health Systems Studies, i.e., Health Administration; Hospital Administration; Public Health in Social Epidemiology; and Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance.



(e) Candidates applying for the Master in Habitat Policy and Practice should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management, Physical Sciences, Geography, Planning, Law, or Social Sciences, with some inclination towards habitat related issues/sectors.



(f) Medical graduates should complete their internship on or before Saturday, June 10, 2011. Otherwise, their candidature/admission stands cancelled.

How To Apply: All candidates are required to apply online through the E-application only, available on the Institute's website www.tiss.edu.



Candidates applying through the online mode should pay Rs. 800/- (if applying for one programme), Rs. 1600/- (if applying for two programmes) and Rs. 2,400/- (if applying for three programmes) by submitting a prescribed challan to any branch of the State Bank of India (this challan can be downloaded from the TISS website). The portion of the prescribed challan marked for TISS should be sent along with the application and the portion marked for candidate should be preserved till the GD/PI gets over. The candidate will be able to download the challan once they fill up the complete details of the application form and before taking out a print of the filled-in application. Please note that the SBI will charge Rs. 50/- as their processing fee, which cannot be adjusted against the application fee.



For candidates applying online, payment has to be made only through the SBI, and the payment challan has to be submitted to the Institute along with the Application Form. If payment is made via demand draft, pay order or any other mode, the application will be rejected and no communication to this effect will be sent to such candidates.



Candidates from remote places where no Internet and telecommunication facilities are available can get OMR-based application form from the Institute by following the instructions given below:



(A) Please prepare a Demand Draft from any branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) drawn in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, payable at SBI, Deonar, Mumbai (Branch Code 03109) for Rs. 800/- (if applying for only one programme), Rs. 1600/- (if applying for only two programmes), or Rs. 2400/- (if applying for three programmes).

(B) Please send the Demand Draft to the Assistant Registrar (Academic) of the Institute along with a self-addressed (A4-sized) cloth-lined or thick envelope with a postal stamp of Rs. 50/-, and a request letter containing details of address, contact number, etc. Requests coming without the postal stamp and Demand Draft will not be accepted.



The Institute has the right to not send the OMR-based application to candidates who are not from remote areas place. Please note that the money will not be refunded.



Unemployed Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, whose parent’s /guardian’s income is less than Rs. 1 lakh (Rupees one lakh only), are exempt from paying the Application Fee. They should apply online through the E-application, and if they are from remote places, they can send a request letter without the payment challan and stamped envelope, but with a request letter, a plain self-addressed envelope and copies of Caste and Income Certificates attested by any School headmaster or a Principal of College or a gazetted officer. ELIGIBILITY:
The students to be admitted under NRI quota is as under—
1a) The students who are Non-Resident Indians or the student whose parents are Non-Resident Indians or in the absence of parents, their legally appointed guardians, who are Non-Resident Indians.

1b) Students who are dependents of Non-Resident Indians for the educational purpose and shall have necessary proof/evidence in support of his/her dependent.

2) The student must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology & English individually and must have obtained minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the qualifying examination as prescribed by the MCI/VNSGU/Government of Gujarat.

3a) The NRI student passing 12th (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English must have Equivalent Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities

3b) In case of (1) ‘b’ category (dependent) he/she must have passed qualifying examination as under—
“Higher Secondary examination (HSCE) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and any other elective subjects with English as prescribed by MCI”

4) The student shall have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of year of the admission (31.12.2011). In case of under age students, admission shall be granted as per the merit at the time of counselling but his / her academic term shall start from
the day when he / she completes 17 years of age and his / her term shall commences after completion of eligible the age.

7) Affidavit given by concerned NRI proposing to undertake responsibility for paying tuition fees for the medical education of student.
8) Affidavit (on non judicial stamp paper of Rs. 100, attested before executive magistrate or government notary) given by either of parents/grandparents of student or student if he/she is major regarding relationship with the NRI and in what manner the student claims to be dependent on NRI, who is to take responsibility for paying tuition fees of student and they do not have economic means to provide the necessary fees and other expenditure for the course.
9) Affidavit by the supporting NRI/candidate’s parent that NRI has been supporting the said dependent applicant in the past for educational and related requirements with an undertaking to the institute to submit the supportive documents/materials in above regard as and when required.
10) Copy of Passport with all pages of concerned NRI proposing to undertake responsibility for paying tuition fees of student.
11) Attested copy of the nationality and citizenship of parents/ Guardian.
12) Medical certificate of fitness as per requirement of the Council.
13) Indemnity Bond by parent/ Guardian as applicable.

M.V.Sc Programme – Bachelors degree in Veterinary and Animal Sciences recognized by the University with an OGPA of 6.0/10 or equivalent OGPA/equivalent percentage of 50% marks in traditional system. For SC/ST candidates the OGPA shall be 5.5/10 or equivalent.

Ph.D Programme – Masters Degree in the respective/related subject recognized by the University with an OGPA of 7.5/10 or equivalent OGPA/equivalent percentage of marks at Masters Degree level. For SC/ST candidates the OGPA shall be 7.0/10 or equivalent.

ASSISTANTSHIP / SCHOLARSHIP:
A fixed number of candidates admitted for Master’s and Ph.D. degree programmes are eligible for Assistantship. The Assistantship for Master’s programme is at the rate of Rs. 10,000/- per month and for Ph.D. at the rate of Rs. 20,000/- per month. All the students admitted for Master’s and Ph.D. programmes are eligible to get a scholarship amount of Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 5000/- per month, respectively. Candidates who are awarded any other fellowship/ scholarship will not be eligible for the above benefits. The candidates on deputation are also not eligible for these benefits. Selection shall be done on the basis of the OGPA in the qualifying exam, score in the entrance exam and interview.
