This programme imparts engineering skills to medical professionals and train them for the state-of-the-art medical research in frontier areas of Medical Imaging, Molecular Imaging and Image Analysis, Biomaterials and Implants, Biophysics, Medical Statistics, Telemedicine, Biomedical Instrumentation, Early Detection of Cancer, Immuno-technology, Recombinant DNA Technology, Biomedical Simulation, Wound research and so on. After the completion of this course the medical professionals become well equipped to fill the void that separates the medical sciences from advanced technology.


Eligibility for MMST
The eligibility criterion for admission to MMST students is MBBS Degree (recognised by Medical Council of India) with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate and having studied mathematics at +2 level (even as additional subject) or from any recognized Open University. Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and persons with disability as per Govt. of India rules.

Mode of Selection
MMST students - The selection of is strictly based on the performance of the candidates in an objective type of written test of 2 hours duration. The candidate needs to answer 120 questions of one mark each (no negative marking) out of which 75 questions are from MBBS syllabi. The remaining questions are equally distributed to cover the syllabi of +2 level Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, Candidates qualifying in the admission test will be called for counseling at IIT Kharagpur before final selection.

Application Procedure
MMST 2010 application is to be submitted only by an ONLINE process (internet based) by accessing the website http://gate/iitkgp.ac.in/mmst from 1 February 2010 till 5 March 2010. The candidate should first pay the Application Fee by obtaining a Demand Draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur on any nationalised bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal. The draft details are require while filling up the ONLINE application form after successful submission of data. The printed form, with candidate's signature and photograph pasted at appropriate place, and the Demand Draft must be sent by speed post so as to reach by 15 March 2010 to The Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur - 721302.

Following additional documents should be mailed along with the printed Application Form :
1. Attested copy of SC/ST/PD certificate (if applicable)
2. Attested copy of MBBS Degree (recognized by MCI) with mark sheet as a proof of obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.
3. Attested copy of proof of having studies Mathematics at +2 level (even as an additional subject)

Application Fees
Rs. 1000/- for General Category and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/PD Category.

Admit Card
Admit Card is issued only to eligible candidates who submit the application form completed in all respects before the closing date. GATE office will dispatch the admit card starting from 1 April 2010. If it is not received by 15th April 2010, the Chairman GATE IIT Kharagpur should be contacted for necessary action. The admit card should be preserved by the candidate even after the examination for the purpose of counseling.

Admission Test
TThe admission test is of objective type to identify the aptitude of the candidates for a program like MMST. The test is of two hours duration and held between 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon on Sunday, 25 April 2010. The candidate needs to answer 120 questions of one mark each (no negative marking) out of which 75 questions are assigned to the typical MBBS syllabi. Fellowships
Candidates admitted for M.Phil. and Full-Time Ph.D. will be provided fellowship by the University. The NET qualified candidates, who have been awarded Junior Research Fellowships by the UGC and who fulfill the required qualifications, are encouraged to apply.


Eligibility Criteria
Full-time Programmes
(a) A candidate seeking admission to the M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes shall have a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST candidates and Persons with Disabilities) or its equivalent grade in Master's Degree in education, social sciences and allied disciplines from a recognized university. Candidates possessing Master's degree in other areas may also be considered if he/she has proven record of work/publication in the area of educational policy, planning and administration.

(b) A candidate seeking admission to Ph.D. programme shall have an M.Phil. degree in an area closely related to educational planning and administration and/or exceptionally brilliant academic record coupled with publications of high quality.

(c) M.Phil. graduates of NUEPA will be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Programme after due scrutiny by a Selection/Admission Committee, if they obtain a FGPA of 6 or above on the ten point scale. This will be applicable for all admissions from 2008 onwards.

Part-time Programme
Acandidate seeking admission to Part-time Ph.D. programme is required to meet the following criteria:
(i) Should possess the educational qualifications as mentioned in Para (a) above;
(ii) Currently, should be in full-time employment;
(iii) Should be a senior level educational functionary with a minimum of five years work experience in teaching, educational planning and administration.

Mode of Selection
The University reserves the right to decide the number of seats to be filled in theyear2010-11; the criteria for screening of applications; and the selection procedure of candidates for admission to its M.Phil. and Ph.D.programmes. The mode of selection of candidates will be as under:

(i) Initial short-listing of applications will be carried out on the basis of relevance and quality of the brief write-up (in the prescribed format) in the proposed area of research to be submitted along with the application form;
(ii) Short-listed candidates will be subjected to second level of screening through which the University will assess their motivation and potential.

How to Apply
Candidates may apply in the prescribed form for admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes of the University along with three copies of the brief write-up (in the prescribed format) on the proposed research topic of a contemporary issue within the broad framework of educational policy, planning and administration. 1. Eligibility Criterion for Admission
(a) A candidate for admission to the Program for Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must have obtained at least a Second Class Masters Degree with not less than 55% of marks of a University or a Degree recognized by the University as its equivalent in the subject in which the candidate wishes to pursue a course of research or in a subject allied thereto.
(b) If a Department/Faculty/Centre is offering an M.Phil. Course, a candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. course shall also be required to have passed the M. Phil. Examination in the concerned subject or in a subject allied thereto with at least 55% marks, in addition to the criterion laid down in Para 1(a) above.

2. Admission Procedure
The candidate shall apply for admission to the Ph. D. program or an integrated M. Phil./Ph. D. program of the University, wherever such provision exists, on a prescribed form ( Annexure - I ), which may be downloaded from the University's website, http://jmi.nic.in. The application for admission shall be submitted to the Department/Faculty/Center concerned along with a Demand Draft of Rs.1,000/- drawn in favour of the Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia, payable at Delhi/New Delhi. The list of candidates found eligible to appear for an Entrance Test along with the Admission Schedule shall be notified on the Notice Board of the concerned Department/Faculty/Center as well as on the website of the university.

The following category of candidates shall be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test for the Ph. D. program :

(i) Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR JRF Test/SLET/GATE or have successfully completed M. Phil. Program from a recognized university/ institution.
(ii) The teacher fellowship holders, provided that the competent employing authority issues a No Objection Certificate to the candidate to join the Ph. D. programme and an undertaking that the candidate will be granted leave for the duration of the required course work.

The candidates seeking an exemption from the Entrance Test shall have to submit the proof in respect of Para 2 (i) and (ii) above at the time of the submission of an Application Form for Ph. D. admissions.

The candidates who have been granted exemption from appearing in the Entrance Test shall have to follow rest of the admission process as per the schedule and fulfill all other requirements as per the Ordinance/Regulations for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

2 (a) Entrance Test : The Entrance Test will be for screening the applicants in order to determine their suitability for admission to Ph. D. program of the concerned Department/Faculty/Center. Qualifying the Entrance Test will in no way entitle the candidate to any right to admission in Ph. D. programme.

The medium of Entrance Test shall be English, except in case of the language departments, which may set the question paper in the language concerned. The Entrance Test shall be based on two sets of question papers comprising of Sections A and B as specified below :

Section A : The first set of question paper shall include 50 multiple choice (objective type) questions of one mark each on teaching and research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension, language, writing and analytical skills, and contemporary issues relevant to research and higher education. It shall be of one hour duration.

Section B: The question paper under Section - B shall be devoted to the advanced knowledge of the subject concerned and that of the specialization under the subject concerned. It shall have a weightage of 100 marks out of which 50 marks will be assigned to 50 multiple choice (objective type) questions of one mark each and a set of subjective types of questions having a weightage of another 50 marks. The question paper under Section B shall be of two hours duration.

2 (b) Criterion to Qualify the Entrance Test : The candidates who obtain at least 50 percent marks each in Section A and B sets of the Entrance Test separately shall qualify for the interview.

The names of all such candidates shall be notified on the Notice Board of the concerned Department/Faculty/Center and also on the website of the university.

2 (c) Interview : The candidates who qualify the Entrance Test including the candidates who have been exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test, shall be required to prepare a synopsis of the proposed research and submit it to the Department/Faculty/Center concerned. The synopsis should include : (i) Topic of research, (ii) Objectives, (iii) Current state of the literature related to the proposed topic, (iv) Proposed Research Work, (v) Methodology, (vi) References, (vii) any other relevant information the researcher would like to submit. The candidates who submit the synopsis, as per the schedule notified, shall be called for interview by the Department/Faculty/Center concerned. The candidates will be required to be present for present and defend their research proposals before the concerned Board of Studies/Committee of studies. The Board, based on the performance of the candidates, shall recommend the name of the candidates, in order of merit, for the admission to the Ph. D. program, along with the names of a Supervisor and Co - Supervisor (s), if any, for each candidate to the concerned Faculty/Board of Management. All such candidates shall be asked to contact the Office of the concerned Dean/Director to complete the admission formalities.

The admission in Ph. D. Program offered by various Departments/Faculties/Centers shall be in accordance with the Revised Ordinance for the award of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

TISS- M.A/ M.Sc. in Habitat Policy Admissions 2010



School of Habitat Studies of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) invites applications for M.A./M.Sc. Programme in Habitat Policy and Practice

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates applying for the M.A./M.Sc. in Habitat Policy and Practice should have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management, Physical Sciences, Geography, Planning, Law, or Social Sciences, with some inclination towards habitat-related issues/sectors.

Professionals working in different sub-sectors of the habitat sector or the urban sector are also eligible, provided they possess the minimum academic qualifications. They could come from different types of institutions, including ULBs, government, research organisations, civil society groups, and private companies are also eligible for admission to the programme.
Apart from the minimum academic qualifications, proficiency in written and spoken English and basic capabilities in mathematics would be desirable and helpful to students in making best of what the programme offers.


Instructions for Determining Eligibility to Apply

i) 'Pass Class' in the Bachelor's Degree pursued by the applicant will be taken for determining his/her eligibility.

ii) Candidates who are in the final year of their Bachelor's Degree programme, but have not passed in all the courses (main/ major/ subsidiary, etc.) of first and second years (if the Degree is of 3 years duration) and first, second and third years (if the Degree is of 4 years duration) on the day of applying for the programme are not eligible to apply.

iii) Candidates who have been declared as failed in the final year examination are also not eligible to apply, unless they pass their Bachelor's Degree examination on the
day of applying for the programme.

iv) Eligibility, once determined on the basis of the information given by the candidate in the Application Form, shall be final for the purpose of test/interview/selection. However, in case it is found that the information furnished by a caandidate is incorrect or misleading or ineligibility being detected before or after the test/interview/selection/admission, his/her candidature will be cancelled.

v) If a provisionally admitted student fails in the final year of his/her Bachelor's Degree Examination and even if he/she has applied for re-evaluation at the university/ college, he/she will not be allowed to continue the programme as the offer of provisional admission stands automatically cancelled on his/her failure in the final year examination.


SELECTION PROCEDURE

Weightage for the Different Components
(a) Written Test (100 marks): The Written Test is in two parts.

Part I is an Objective Test which consists of 3 sections:
(i) General awareness/ knowledge about current/contemporary social issues;
(ii) Analytical/logical reasoning and quantitative ability; and
(iii) Verbal reasoning. The duration of the test is 45 minutes.

Part II of the Written Test is the "Programme-Based" test, and the duration is 60 minutes. This Written Test aims to assess the following:

Section I: Descriptive Test — Critical Analysis, Sensitivity to Social and Environmental Issues.

Section II: Objective Test —
(i) General Awareness/Knowledge about Current/ Contemporary Social Issues;
(ii) Analytical/Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Ability; and
(iii) Verbal Reasoning.

Note: Model question paper for the programme is placed on TISS website on November 9, 2009.

(b) Personal Interview (70 marks): The candidate is expected to be acquainted with the programme for which he/she has applied for, as questions may be asked on the
topic during the Personal Interview (PI).


Eligibility for Personal Interview
Candidates short-listed for the PI will be required to submit the Detailed Application Form online, which will be available at www.tiss.edu after declaration of the results of the Written Test on 15th March, 2010. They are also required to bring a hard copy of the filled in Detailed Application Form along with photocopies of all documents and two passport-sized photographs while coming for Personal Interview. No candidate will be allowed to appear for the PI without submitting the Detailed Application Form on time.


RESERVATIONS
Reservation for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) will be as per Government of India (GoI) requirements, that is, 15% and 7.5%, respectively. Reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) is 27%, while for Kashmiri Migrants it will be subject to the GoI directives.

By sending a request letter to the Assistant Registrar (Academic) of the Institute along with a self-addressed (A4-Size) cloth-lined envelope and a Demand Draft for Rs. 750/- drawn in favour of the "Tata Institute of Social Sciences", and payable at Mumbai.OR

By downloading the Application Form from the TISS website (www.tiss.edu). Please note that while submitting the downloaded Application Form either by post or in person to the Academic Section, it should be accompanied by a Demand Draft for Rs. 750/.

From the Cash Counter of TISS, against cash payment (Cash timings: Mondays to Fridays from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. and on Saturdays, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.).

Unemployed SC and ST candidates, whose parents'/guardian's income was Rs. 1 lakh (Rupees One lakh) for the financial year 2008-2009 can obtain the Application Form for Rs. 700/-

Important
For speedy processing of applications, we recommend online filling of applications. Once you submitted the on-line application, print the application, attach the DD and other necessary documents and mail to TISS, Mumbai. Note:Those candidates who have already applied for this programme need not apply again.

Unemployed SC and ST candidates, whose parents'/guardian's income was Rs.One lakh or below for the financial year 2008-2009 can obtain the Application Form free of cost.

They can download the Form from www.tiss.edu and submit it along with a true copy of the Caste/Tribe Certificate and the Income Certificate or they can send a request letter along with a true copy of Caste/Tribe Certificate, Income Certificate and self- addressed (A4-Size) cloth-lined envelope to the Assistant Registrar (Academic), TISS. Please note that the (a) Caste/Tribe Certificate should be issued in the name of the candidate by a Revenue Officer not below the rank of a Tehsildar; and (b) A copy of the Income Certificate of the candidate's parents/guardian should be issued by the employer or by any appropriate authority for the financial year 2008-2009.

Submission of Duly Filled in Application Form

(a) Candidates who have filled in the downloaded form should write their name, address, telephone number (along with STD code), etc., on the reverse of the Bank Draft, at the time of submitting the completed form to the Academic Section, TISS.

(b) Candidates can send their duly filled applications through Registered Post/Speed Post/Courier. The envelope should be addressed to the Academic Section, TISS

(c) Candidates can also submit their duly filled applications personallyto the Academic Section, TISS, against proper receipt. The Institute will not be responsible for the applications sent/ delivered to any other functionary of the Institute.

(d) The last date for receiving the Application Forms, completed in all respects, by hand or by post, is 5th February, 2010, up to 5.00 p.m.

Note:
Candidates belonging to SC or ST or OBC or PWD category must submit the relevant certificates of their status (as SC or ST or OBC or PWD) along with their filled in applications. No candidate will be considered for more than one category as mentioned in the Application Form.

The last date for receiving applications sent BY POST from remote areas/regions (i.e., Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti district, Pangi sub-division of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep Islands), is 12th February, 2010.

Candidates who are claiming the benefit of extended time for submission of the Application Form, should clearly indicate in their forwarding letter the particular area or region (for example, Assam, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir, etc.) they have posted their application from. In case they fail to do so, the benefit of extended time will not be granted. In the case of Application Forms received by hand or through courier services of any type, the benefit of extended time will NOT be granted, regardless of the place of residence of the applicant.

Candidates should clearly note that the Institute will in no case be responsible for non-receipt of their applications or any delay in receipt thereof on any account whatsoever. They should, therefore, ensure that their applications reach the Institute on or before the prescribed last date.


ENTRANCE TEST SCHEDULE
Written Test:
The Written Tests for this programmes will be held on 7th March, 2009, at 5 centres: Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Kolkata.
The Institute may cancel any test centre and/or assign another centre instead of the centre indicated by the candidate, if situation demands.

Admit Card:
Admit card will generally be dispatched on weekly basis. However, candidates who not received their admit card by 24th February, 2010, may register their complaint with Section Officer (Admissions) by sending a mail to pgadmissions@tiss.edu. Candidates who registered their complaints will be given a duplicate admit card a day prior to the entrance test at his/her respective centre. No duplicate admit card will be issued on the day of the written test.

Personal Interview:
The PI for the programme will be held at the Mumbai Campus on 29th and 30th March, 2010 OR 9th and 10th May, 2010. The actual date of the PI of a candidate will be put up on the TISS website and will also be intimated to the candidate through email. Shortlisted candidates are requested to contact the Section Officer (Admissions), in case they do not receive any mail with regard to date of PI at least by 22nd March, 2010.

Request for change in the date for the Written Test will not be considered. However, a change in the dates for PI may be considered, if the date of PI at the TISS clashes with the date of entrance test of another Institution or the date of final year examination of the candidate. However, the candidate must produce documentary evidence for this. Please note that the changed date for PI will be within the time schedule announced by TISS only.

Sri Sathya Sai University invites applications for Admission for the Academic Year commencing from June 2010 for the following Courses:

Prasanthinilayam Campus (for Men} B.A., B.A.(Hons) & B.Sc.(Hons) in Economics (leading to PG Courses in the respective subjects); M.B.A., M.B.A.(Finance), M.Tech.(Computer Science), and M.Tech.(Applied Optics).

Brindavan Campus (or Men): B.Sc.(Hons) in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences (leading to PG Courses in the respective subjects) and B.Com.(Hons).

Anantapur Campus (for Women): B.A., B.Com.(Hons), B.Sc.(Home Science), B.Sc.(Hons) in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences; B.Ed., M.A.(English), M.A.(Telugu), M.Sc.(Home Science) with specialization in (a) Food Science & Nutrition and (b) Food Technology.


Eligibility for Admission:
Undergraduate Courses: 10+2 pattern of study/Intermediate. Minimum marks required in the X Std. examination is 60% in aggregate and 55% in General English. Candidates should have taken their final year +2 / Intermediate qualifying examination before the date of Admission Test.

Postgraduate Courses: 10+2+3 pattern of study. A First class (minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all the three years of study) in respective degrees with 50% in General English. For M.Sc.(Home Science) candidates of B.Sc.(Biosciences) or B.Sc.(MPC) are also eligible to apply.

M.B.A-/ M.B.A-(Finance) and B.Ed.: 10+2+3 pattern of study. A First class (minimum of 60% marks in all examinations of the course) in any first degree or Postgraduate degree with 50% marks in General English in the first basic degree. Candidates of Technical Courses like B.E., B.Tech., B.Pharma., B.Sc.(Agri). etc. are exempted from the minimum requirement of 50% marks in General English.

M.Tech.(Computer Science): A First class (60% and above) both in the first degree and M.Sc.(Mathematics)/ M.Sc.(Physics)/M.Sc.(Computer Science)/M.C.A./B.E.(Computer Science)/B.Tech. (Computer Science) levels of examination with Computer Science background, and the candidates should have formally undergone the following courses: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks, Computer Organisation & Architecture and Database Systems.

M.Tech (Applied Optics): A First class (60% and above) both in the first degree and M.Sc.(Physics)/B.E./B.Tech. levels of examination with a background in Optics and Electromagnetic Theory.

Note: Eligible candidates will be short-listed by the University based on the marks of qualifying examinations. Only such candidates will be called for Admission Test.

In the case of candidates who have not received the marks statements of the final year of the first degree examination, their marks in the previous years/semesters should not be less than 60% in aggregate and 50% in General English. They should have taken their final year/semester qualifying examination before the date of the admission test.

Admissions are made as per the guidelines issued by the Govt. of India and UGC with regard to Reservation of seats. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes are entitled to a relaxation of 5% marks.

Admission to all the above courses will be on the basis of Admission Test and Interview which will be held in May 2010, at Prasanthi Nilayam, Andhra Pradesh.

Application form along with Information Handbook will be available from 1st December 2009 to 28th February 2010.

ABOUT ASEE-2010
The Scholarships are available for all courses. For Post Graduate courses the value of scholarship is Rs. 1 lakh each (Rs. 48,000/ each in case of M.Sc. Chemistry) and for UG course, Rs. 72,000/ each . Students applying for management seats are not eligible for scholarship. Selection will be through a written test. Candidates, meeting the eligibility criteria, will be called for the written test held on 18th, April, 2010. Such successful candidates according to course and seats will be informed by post. If candidates secure same marks in the ASEE-2010, the selection will be based on their academic record. Written examination will be held in following cities namely Dehradun, Kanpur, Kolkata, and Hardoi (UP). Each candidate must indicate his/her preference for the centre in the application. No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates to attend the exam under any circumstances. The candidates appearing in the qualifying exam may also apply. The scholarship will be provided to the successful and eligible candidate after taking admission in the GCBMS Dehradun.

. Candidates should send application by speed post/ registered post.
E. If the application form is bought from the GCBMS office, no Demand Draft as exam fee is needed.
.
