Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar, Orissa

Postgraduate Diploma in Management Admission 2011

This is the flagship programme of the Institute, comparable to the MBA level programmes of premier business schools in India and abroad. While the programme is based on the standard model of management education as practised by our peers, our programme is distinguished by its rigour and discipline. The Institute has created an environment where the faculty demand and get the extra work and students demand the latest from the faculty. The programme updates its syllabus regularly to reflect the changes and challenges in business environment.

Objectives : The two-year programme is designed to prepare competent men and women for careers in management in the corporate sector and in public systems. The courses impart a generalist perspective, which will enable students to view the entirety of an organisation as well as its place in a larger environment. The students are also trained in technical and functional business skills such as accounting, finance, marketing and production; and are helped to develop their analytical and integrative skills so that they can define problems with clarity and formulate alternative solutions for implementation. Besides professional expertise our emphasis is on training students for collaboration and teamwork through the development of human relation skills, and of attitudes which elicit a commitment to excellence along with awareness of their social and ethical responsibility. It is hoped that the future manager will become a powerful force for socio-economic change and progress.

Eligibility: The minimum requirement for admission to the Programme is a three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline from a recognised university. Candidates who expect to complete the final part of their degree examinations by June 15, 2011, can also apply. Offers of admission to such candidates, if made, will be provisional and will be automatically cancelled in the event of their failing to complete all the requirements for obtaining the degree before June 15.

Admission Test : Applicants are required to take the Admission Test (XAT) to be conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, on 2nd January, 2011. For this, applicants have to log on to http://www.xlri.net.in/ and apply online for XAT. Registering for XAT is a prerequisite for applying to XIMB.

XIMB Application : Applicants also have to apply (online) separately for XIMB programme at: www.ximb.ac.in Upon successfully filling the online application form, the Payment Advice Form can be downloaded. The applicant must take a printout of the same payment advice form and mail it to the Admissions Office, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar-751013, accompanied by the application fee (non-refundable) in one of the following ways:

* Money Receipt issued by IMS/Career Launcher/T.I.M.E. coaching centres, after paying Rs.1000/- in cash; OR

On receipt of the Money Receipt issued by IMS/Career Launcher/T.I.M.E. centres or Bank Pay-in-slip Counterfoil or DD for the required amount and the Payment Advice Form, the Bulletin 2011 will be mailed to the applicant (except to those who have paid at IMS/T.I.M.E. centres). The last date for applying online is December 5, 2010, and for receiving the application fee it is December 10, 2010.

About College: The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) as it is known today came into being as the Institute of Armament Studies in 1952 in the CME campus. In 1967, the Institute was renamed as “Institute of Armament Technology, (IAT)”, which moved to its present location at Girinagar, Pune. From the relatively narrow scope of Armament Studies alone in the Fifties, the role of the Institute was considerably enlarged by the Defence R&D Council in 1964 and further in 1981. On the basis of accreditation by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Pune University recognized eight courses for the award of ME degree in 1980. In the year 2000, the Institute acquired the status of a Deemed University. IAT has been renamed as DIAT w.e.f. 1st April 2006.
