MPhil 2012 at Berhampur University

Eligibility for Admission:


(a) A candidate who has passed the MA / MSc / MCom or any other examination recognised by the Berhampur University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks or any equivalent grade (50% of marks or equivalent grade for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Schedule Tribe categories) is eligible for admission into the MPhil course in that subject. A candidate having MSc degree in Life Science with at least a Second Class (minimum 55% of marks) or an equivalent grade (or 50% of marks or equivalent grade for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Schedule Tribe categories) is eligible for admission to MPhil Course in Botany or Zoology as per their stream.


(b) MPhil in Womens’ Studies: A candidate having a Post-Graduate Degree from Berhampur University or from any other University recognised as equivalent thereto with Second Class with minimum 55% marks (50% of marks or equivalent grade for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Schedule Tribe categories) is eligible for admission.


Criteria for Selection
Admission into all MPhil courses shall be done through an entrance test followed by an interview. The Test shall comprise of one paper of 100 marks (50 marks Objective Type Questions and 50 marks for short-answer type questions) of two hour duration. The Question Paper shall cover all the papers taught at the Post-Graduate level of the concerned subject of Berhampur University. However, for admission into MPhil Course for Women’s Studies the course will cover broad areas relating to Women’s Studies. The candidates should secure minimum 50% of marks in the entrance test (40% of marks for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) in order to be eligible to appear at the interview. The selection for admission into MPhil Courses shall be made on the basis of the career marks and the marks secured in the interview.

Candidates seeking admission to any MPhil Course of the PG Departments should send their applications in the downloaded prescribed form duly filled in by them in their own handwriting along with the required documents and fee (complete in all respects) to the
Head of the Department for which admission is sought and
Director, Womens’ Studies Research Centre in case of MPhil in Womens’ Studies, by Registered Post / Speed Post.


A crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 1000/- (Rupees one thousand) should be enclosed towards processing and entrance test fee, drawn in favour of the Head of the Department concerned for which admission is sought/Director, WSRC in case of MPhil in Womens’ Studies, and payable at the SBI, Bhanja Bihar (Code 2107), Berhampur-760007.


The applicant should send the following documents with his / her application form:
Attested photocopies of:
a) Certificates and Mark Sheets of all examinations from HSC to Master’s Degree.
b) Certificate of teaching experience, if any.
c) Copies of publications, if any.
d) Conduct Certificate from the institution last attended.
e) No objection certificate from the employer, if employed.
f) Certificate in support of his/her claim against reserved quota (SC and ST) issued by competent Revenue Authority.

About College: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. The first school of social work in India, the TISS was a pioneering effort, characteristic of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT). Eligibility: (a) A Bachelor’s Degree of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognised university, in any discipline. OR



(b) Candidates who will complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor’s Degree examinations by Saturday, June 11, 2011, are also eligible to apply to all the programmes, except the four programmes offered by the School of Health Systems Studies; provided they have successfully completed their first and second years, if the degree course is of 3 years; and the first, second and third years, if the degree course is of 4 years. Candidates applying for the M.A. Education (Elementary) programme should complete all the requirements by May 8, 2011. In such cases, admission to any of the Master’s Degree Programmes of the Institute will be provisional. If a provisionally admitted student fails in the final year examination, the offer of provisional admission automatically stands cancelled.



(c) Candidates applying for the Master of Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance; and Master of Public Health in Social Epidemiology Programmes should have (i) A Master’s Degree in any discipline, or (ii) A Bachelor’s Degree in medicine/para-medical courses.



(d) Candidates who are in their final year Bachelor’s Degree Programme are not eligible to apply for admission to any of the Master’s Degree programmes, conducted by School of Health Systems Studies, i.e., Health Administration; Hospital Administration; Public Health in Social Epidemiology; and Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance.



(e) Candidates applying for the Master in Habitat Policy and Practice should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management, Physical Sciences, Geography, Planning, Law, or Social Sciences, with some inclination towards habitat related issues/sectors.



(f) Medical graduates should complete their internship on or before Saturday, June 10, 2011. Otherwise, their candidature/admission stands cancelled.

How To Apply: All candidates are required to apply online through the E-application only, available on the Institute's website www.tiss.edu.



Candidates applying through the online mode should pay Rs. 800/- (if applying for one programme), Rs. 1600/- (if applying for two programmes) and Rs. 2,400/- (if applying for three programmes) by submitting a prescribed challan to any branch of the State Bank of India (this challan can be downloaded from the TISS website). The portion of the prescribed challan marked for TISS should be sent along with the application and the portion marked for candidate should be preserved till the GD/PI gets over. The candidate will be able to download the challan once they fill up the complete details of the application form and before taking out a print of the filled-in application. Please note that the SBI will charge Rs. 50/- as their processing fee, which cannot be adjusted against the application fee.





For candidates applying online, payment has to be made only through the SBI, and the payment challan has to be submitted to the Institute along with the Application Form. If payment is made via demand draft, pay order or any other mode, the application will be rejected and no communication to this effect will be sent to such candidates.



Candidates from remote places where no Internet and telecommunication facilities are available can get OMR-based application form from the Institute by following the instructions given below:



(A) Please prepare a Demand Draft from any branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) drawn in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, payable at SBI, Deonar, Mumbai (Branch Code 03109) for Rs. 800/- (if applying for only one programme), Rs. 1600/- (if applying for only two programmes), or Rs. 2400/- (if applying for three programmes).

(B) Please send the Demand Draft to the Assistant Registrar (Academic) of the Institute along with a self-addressed (A4-sized) cloth-lined or thick envelope with a postal stamp of Rs. 50/-, and a request letter containing details of address, contact number, etc. Requests coming without the postal stamp and Demand Draft will not be accepted.



The Institute has the right to not send the OMR-based application to candidates who are not from remote areas place. Please note that the money will not be refunded.



Unemployed Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, whose parent’s /guardian’s income is less than Rs. 1 lakh (Rupees one lakh only), are exempt from paying the Application Fee. They should apply online through the E-application, and if they are from remote places, they can send a request letter without the payment challan and stamped envelope, but with a request letter, a plain self-addressed envelope and copies of Caste and Income Certificates attested by any School headmaster or a Principal of College or a gazetted officer. Requests received without the above Certificates will be rejected and no communication will be sent in this regard.

ADMISSION CATEGORIES
The applicant for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall be classified under any one of the following categories which will be decided and recommended by DRC/CRC.
(I) Full-time Research student/Candidate
a) Research student/Candidate getting Institute MHRD assistantship.
b) Research student/Candidate including foreign nationals getting financial support from Govt. / Semi Govt. agencies (QIP, CSIR, UGC, DAE, DST, DBT, NBHM, JEST, ICCR, NDF, etc.)
c) Research student/Candidate including foreign nationals supported by a sponsoring organization, the applicant (Sponsored Research Student/ Candidate)
having TWO years experience out of which at least ONE year experience with the sponsoring agency.
d) Self Financed Research student/Candidate
—Indian: This category refers to persons with experience and with good track record to join the doctoral programme. They will be admitted along with the regular research students through the usual admission procedure.
—Foreign: Admission of Foreign nationals to Ph.D. programme will be made as per policy and direction of the Govt. of India from time to time
—Study Leave: This category refers to persons who are released from governmental or educational institutions on study leave for a period of not less than three
years for pursuing Ph.D. programme. They will be admitted along with the regular research students through the usual admission procedure.
*e) Research student / Candidate regularly working full time in an R & D project at IITR. His Ph.D. topic is in confirmation to the project as certified by the SRC.

II) Part-time Research Student/ Candidate:
a) Research student/Candidate working as a regular employee in the Institute
*b) Research student / Candidate working regularly full-time in an R&D project in the institute. The project must have tenure of at least next 2 years.
c) Research student / Candidate working in other organizations / institutes, approved by IIT Roorkee as Research Centre or having MoU for research purposes.
* The research student / candidate working in a project will be given full time status, provided his research for Ph.D. is related to the project as certified by the SRC. However, part time research student/candidate may be given full time status when the project tenure is completed.

ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY
1. An applicant belonging to the above admission categories should possess the following qualifications in appropriate areas to be eligible to apply for admission for the Ph.D. programme of the Institute.
a) Masters degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Urban & Rural Planning / Pharmacy / Computer Applications of 3 years duration after graduation in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded.
OR
b) Masters degree in Sciences/Humanities & Social Sciences/ Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a valid NET or valid GATE or valid GPAT score and minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute where letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks where marks are awarded.
OR
c) B.Tech. / B.Arch. degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 70% marks) and in possession of a valid GATE score.

2. The admission eligibility requirements may be relaxed to 5.5 on a 10 point scale or equivalent, or to 55% marks to the following categories:
a. SC/ST candidates with Master’s degree.
b. Any category of PD (Persons with disabilities) Candidate holding B.Tech. degree or equivalent degree.
c . Academic staff of the Institute who has an experience of more than 5 years.

3. Eligibility for Part-time Ph.D.
a) The applicant possesses the minimum entry qualifications for the degree as given in admission eligibility point 1;
b) The applicant proves that his official duties permit him to devote sufficient time to research;
c) He / She will be required to reside at the Institute for a period of not less than 6 months during his/her registration for the degree. (This condition of minimum residence period will be automatically waived for candidates who are working in Roorkee or in Organizations / institutions located within a distance of 100 km from the Institute).
d) The facility of part time registration will also be available to all employees of the IIT Roorkee or candidates working in organizations having MoU with IITR or organizations approved by IIT Roorkee as Research Centres. Such applicants are exempted from the requirement of having valid GATE/NET/GPAT.
e) The applicants must have been in continuous service with the sponsoring organization for at least two years at the time of submitting the application form for admission.
f) The candidates working in Institute/University awarding Ph.D. degree itself are not eligible for admission as part-time candidate.

4. Employee seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme with minimum of two years service in an organization or confirmed regular employee may obtain and submit ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the employer to the effect that the duties allotted by the employer will allow the required time for this pursuit.


HOW TO APPLY
• The candidate is required to download Bank Challan Proforma alongwith aplication form from www.iitr.ernet.in/admissions and then deposit the requisite fee of Rs. 200/- in any branch of Punjab National Bank throughout the country. The Bank Challan will be printed in triplicate. It is only available on Institute website and pay the fees through it. Bank will retain a copy and will return two copies to you. In those two copies, retain the Candidate’s copy with you and attach the IITR’s copy with the application form. O R
In case Punjab National Bank Branch is not available at his/her place or nearby place, then send the demand draft of Rs.200/- in favour of Chairman PG Admission, IIT Roorkee payable at Roorkee. The completed application form should be sent to Chairman, PG Admission, IIT Roorkee.

M.Phil Admissions 2011-2012



Caicut Univeristy

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to MPhil Degree Course in the following University Teaching Departments (viz. Arabic, Bio-technology, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Education, English, Folklore Studies, Hindi, History, Library & Information Science, Life Science, Malayalam & Kerala Studies, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Russian & Comparative Literature, Sanskrit, Statistics, School of Drama & Fine Arts, Zoology etc.)

Eligibility
Candidates who possess Master’s Degree in the subject concerned or any other relevant subject approved by the Board of Studies of this University or equivalent degree of any other Indian or Foreign Universities with not less than 55% marks are eligible to apply for the same. For OEC candidates 5% mark relaxation shall be given. In the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST category and teachers under FIP scheme, a pass in the qualifying examination is sufficient.

Entrance Examination:
There will be an entrance examination conducted by the Heads of the concerned Departments of the Calicut University. The entrance examination shall consist of objective and descriptive type questions of 50 marks each. The duration of the examination shall be two hours.

Candidate who secures 50% marks and above in the entrance examination is eligible for admission to MPhil course. Candidates belonging to SC / ST category need only 35% marks to qualify in the entrance examination. Teachers of affiliated colleges (under FIP Scheme) are exempted from the entrance examination.

Out of the total number of seats in each Department 50% shall be reserved for students and 50% for teachers under FIP Scheme. If there is no eligible candidate in one category, eligible candidates from the other category shall be considered.

The filled in applications shall be forwarded to the concerned Heads of Departments of the University on or before 30.09.2011 along with the original chalan receipt for Rs. 50/- remitted towards application fee and Rs.250/- for entrance fee (Rs.85/- for SC/ST candidates as entrance fee) to Calicut University Fund.

Eligibility
A Candidate must possess postgraduate degree in General Surgery (MS) /Equivalent qualification of General Surgery recognized by Medical Council of India.

Candidate who have appeared for MS General Surgery can also apply but their result must be declared before 31/8/11

Maximum Age limit: Not more than 35 years of age on 31/8/11 relaxable for 5 years for SC/ST and in-service candidate (in M.P Gov service only).
