Admission to One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights Law
(Distance Mode)


NLSIU, Bangalore, invites applications for one year Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights Law (PGDCRL) - Distance Mode, commencing in January 2009. The programme is being offered by the Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), a specialized Research Centre at the NLSIU, engaged in research, training, teaching, practice and policy advocacy on various issues related to children since 1996.

The programme is open to graduates from recognized Universities in any acadmeic discipline. The medium of instruction will be English. Candidates are expected attend three contact classes of approximately three days each during the course. Application forms can be obtained in persion OR by writting to The Coordinator, Child Rights Course (Distance), Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), National Law School of India University, Nagarbhavi, Bangalore - 560 242, along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 1000/- drawn in favour of the Registrar, NLSIU, payable at Bangalore. Eligibility for Admission: Graduate Degree from any recognized University OR similar qualification (15 years of education). The medium of instruction will be English

Admission Procedure: Candidates intending to enroll for admission shall submit the prescribed application form duly filled in along with the original Degree/Provisional certificate and an attested copy of the same on or before the prescribed last date. Soon after completion of the admission process the Degree/Provisional certificate will be returned to the candidate.

Duration: One Academic Year.

Reading Materials: Reading Material comprising of compiled articles and some Self-Instructional Materials focusing on identified course modules, will be distributed to the enrolled candidates.


Papers--
The Papers that would be offered are:
Paper 1- The Child, Family and the State in India: Realities and Issues
Paper 2- Child Rights, Policy and Law: International and National Framework
Paper 3- Key Legislation relating to Children in India
Paper 4- Working with Children from a Rights based Perspective
Paper 5- Research Project

Requirements for fulfillment of the Course
- Every candidate has to appear for examination in four papers. Each paper carries equal marks. Candidates are supposed to secure at least 50% marks in each paper.
- Every candidate shall work on a Research Project (which will be considered as Paper V) and submit the project report before he/she appears for the written examination. Candidates are permitted to continue the course beyond the first academic year. However, project assignments shall be submitted before the candidate appears for the written exam in that paper.
In addition, each candidate is required to submit assignments on exercises given for each paper.
Self assessment exercises are also given (optional) for each unit. These are not marked but enable the students to assess the extent to which they have learnt the given material.

Contact Classes: Candidates are expected to attend three contact classes of approximately three days each during the course.


IMPORTANT DATES--

Last date for accepting applications (with Late fee): December 15th 2008
First Contact Class: January 10th 11th, 12th 2009 (three days)
Second Contact Class: April 11th, 12th and 13th 2009 (three days)

Submission of Assignment - First two papers: March 15th 09 and with late fee March 31st 2009

Submission of Assignment and Exam Fee - Last two Papers by and Project Report: September 1st and with late fee by September 15th 2009

Third Contact Class, followed by Final Exams and Viva Voce : Between October 1st to 15th 2009

Declaration of Exam results : November 30th 2009


Accommodation--
The University will provide accommodation on first come first serve basis during the contact classes and examinations. A specific request to this effect has to be made by the candidate directly to the Warden, either by email to warden@nls.ac.in or by post addressed to the Chief Warden, NLSIU, at least 15 days in advance of the commencement of classes/exams. A nominal amount of Rs. 125/- per day will be charged for accommodation in addition to the regular course fee.

Post-Graduate Diploma Course (1 year) to be paid at the time of admission

Tuition Fee : Rs. 8,100/- PA
TOTAL : Rs. 11,100/-

Others (Exam fee, Continuation fee and late fee)

Admission Late Fee (After November 15th - till December 15th ) Rs. 500/-
Examination Fee: Rs. 300/- per paper (All papers including Project- 1500/-)
Late payment of Examination Fee : Rs. 250/- per paper
Late submission of Project & Assignments : Rs. 100/- each
Late submission of Dissertation : Rs. 200/-
Continuation fee : 1,000/-
Revaluation of exam papers fee (for all courses) : 500/- per paper
