Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)


B.A (Hons) in Social Work

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has invited applications for admission to the B.A (Hons) in Social Work with Specialization in Rural Development, for the session2010-2013, at the School of Rural Development located at Tuljapur, near Solapur, Maharashtra.

Applicant should have passed the 12th Standard/equivalent in any stream with minimum average of 50% marks (40% for SC/ST and 45% for Kashmiri Migrants). Those awaiting results can also apply.

Application Form and Information Brochure can be obtained by Post till February 24, 2010, by sending a request letter to the Deputy Registrar, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, School of Rural Development, Tuljapur, Osmanabad District, Maharashtra-413 601 OR to Assistant Registrar, TISS, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 along with a Demand Draft for Rs.550/-, drawn in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tuljapur, payable at Tuljapur. They can be downloaded from www.tiss.edu and submitted with the processing fee of Rs. 500/- to be paid in cash at the Institute cash counter or by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of 'Tata Institute of Social Sciences', payable at Tuljapur.

Application Form and Information Brochure can also be obtained in person up to March 10, 2010 from 10.30 a.m to 3 p.m from Monday to Friday and from 10.30 a.m to 1 pm on Saturdays, from the cash counter at TISS, Mumbai or School of Rural Development, Tuljapur against cash payment of Rs.500/-.

Application forms will be provided free of cost SC/ST applicants who are unemployed and whose parents/guardian's annual income is Rs.1,00,000/- or below in the financial year 2008-09. Such applicants are required to submit an attested true copy of Caste/Tribe certificate by the competent authority of the Government and income certificate of their parents/guardians issued by a Village Revenue Officer/Tahsildar/the employer.

Seat Reservations will be 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27 % for OBC (Non Creamy Layer), 3% seats for Persons with Disability (PWD) of which 1% seats each are reserved for (a) low vision /blindness, (b) hearing impairment, and (c) loco-motor disability/cerebral palsy. 1% of seats are reserved for Kashmiri Migrants.

Completed applications should reach TISS, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 in person or by hand, latest by 4.30 pm on March 10, 2010. For remote and far flung areas/regions (Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti District, Pangi sub-division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep Islands) and international students, the last date is March 20, 2010.

Selection process for those satisfying the eligibility requirements, involves two stages, a Written Test (Stage 1) and Group Discussion and Personal Interview (Stage 2).

The Written Test will be conducted from 11 am to 1 pm on April 18, 2010 at Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bangaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Leh, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Portblair , Ranchi and Tuljapur.

The Written Test will be for 2 hours and will carry 100 Marks and is aimed at testing the knowledge of the candidates about Indian society, economy and polity, and to test comprehension. General knowledge will also be tested. There will be questions to assess the attitude of students towards social issues and the aptitude for social work.

General/PWD candidates need a minimum of 50% marks, OBC candidates, 47.5 % marks and SC/ST candidates, 45% marks in the Written Test to qualify for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Pre-admission coaching for SC/ST/OBC Non-Creamy Layer)/Minority applicants will be organized on April 16 and 17, 2010, in the Tuljapur Campus of TISS. They can have their written test in Tuljapur Campus of TISS.
