Admission to M.F.Sc course in Seafood Safety and Trade in
Cochin University of Science and Technology
Cochin University of
Science and Technology (CUSAT) have announced its new M.F.Sc programme in
Seafood Safety and Trade. The course is sanctioned recently by the
University Grants Commission, under its Innovative Programme – Technology and
Research in Interdisciplinary and Emerging Areas. The course will commence from
September 2012.
The two year (4 semester) programme is interdisciplinary
in nature and is designed to mould professionals of the topmost order capable
of tackling the challenges faced by the flourishing seafood industry.
The course aims at developing manpower specialized in managerial skills
demanded by the trade and seafood industry and to extend state of the art
research opportunities in emerging vistas related to seafood trade, sea food
quality assurance and international trade.
The postgraduates in
Seafood Safety and Trade can take up entry level positions in Seafood production,
Sales, Marketing, Quality assurance, Food safety, Total quality management,
Import/Export, etc. In addition to the permanent faculty of Cochin University
of Science and Technology, the National Institute of Fisheries Post Harvest
Technology and Training (NIFPHTT), Cochin, Ministry of Agriculture and various
seafood processing and exporting factories under the aegis of Seafood Exporters
Association will collaborate with the programme, especially in the practical
training & project work of the students.
The eligibility for admission to the course is a
Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries/ Food Technology/ Food Science/ Food
Microbiology/ Food Biochemistry/ Zoology with at least 55% marks in optional
subjects. Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries includes Industrial Fisheries/
Aquaculture/ Fishery Science/Industrial Fish & Fisheries/B.F.Sc (Nautical
Science). Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology/Food Science includes
B.Tech/B.E./B.Sc.in Food Science and Technology/ Food Science and Management/Food
Science/Food Technology/Food Processing Technology/Food Science and Quality
Control.
Admission will be based on a written test to be conducted
by the University in Cochin on 2nd September 2012. The venue and
time of the test will be notified in the Hall Ticket. All candidates
should apply online and the online application form is available on the web
site http://indfish.cusat.ac.in.
After applying online,
a self-attested copy of the confirmation page should be forwarded to the
Director, School of Industrial Fisheries, Cochin University of Science and
Technology, Fine Arts Avenue, Cochin 682 016 along with the application fee of
Rs.950/-(Rs.425/- for SC/ST candidates) by way of Demand Draft drawn from any
nationalized bank in favour of The Registrar, CUSAT payable at
Ernakulam. The last date for
submitting application is 16th August 2012. All short listed candidates should download their hall
ticket from the above website. Admission test for the course will be held
on 2nd September 2012 in Kochi only and the results will be published in the
website within one day.
