Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme - B.Sc. Nursing

Duration: The B.Sc. Nursing Course is of Four years (eight semester) duration.

Accreditation: Recognized by Indian Nursing Council (INC) and approved by Karnataka Nursing Council (KNC) and Government of Karnataka. Affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore.

Subjects: Nursing Principles, Anatomy, Physiology, Physics, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Psychology, Sociology, Management, Education, Research, Biostatistics, English, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Child Health, Maternity, Mental Health, Community Health and Midwifery.

Examination: Students will appear for the theory and practical examination conducted by the University at the end of each year during Oct-Nov.

Eligibility: Passed the two year Pre-University examination or equivalent as recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, with science subjects, viz, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Obtained at least 45% (Forty-five percent) of the total marks in science subjects of the qualifying examination. Completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete this age on or before 31st September of the year of admission.


Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery Programme - GNM Duration: The GNM Course is of Three and half year’s Full time.

Accreditation: Recognized by Indian Nursing Council (INC) and approved by Karnataka
Nursing Council (KNC) and Government of Karnataka.

Subjects: Nursing Principles, Anatomy, Physiology, Physics, Chemistry, Nutrition, Psychology, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Maternity Nursing, Community Health &Midwifery.

Examination: Students will appear for the theory and practical examination conducted by the Board at the end of each year. Selection examination is conducted two months before the common Board Examinations and those students who do not fare well in the internal examinations will not be permitted to take the Board Examination. The minimum marks required for passing any examination is 50 in each subject. No candidates are allowed to sit for the examination if his/her attendance is less than 75%. The percentage of class room and clinical attendance, general conduct of students and the performance in the clinical area are all taken into consideration.

Eligibility: Educational Qualification should be PUC / 10+2 / Or any equivalent passed. Obtained at least 35% (Thirty-five percent) of the total marks in PUC / 10+2 / Or any equivalent. Age Between 17 to 35 years of age at the time of admission.

Applications are invited from Resident Indian Nationals for admission to the above mentioned courses for the August 2008 session. Prospectus and Application Forms can be obtained on cash payment from the Bank of Baroda Extension Counter only at the basement of Administrative Building, JIPMER, from 06-05-2008 to 23-06-2008. The bank timings, when the applications will be available are 9.30 am to 1.30 pm on all working days (Monday to Friday) and from 9.30 am to 12.00 noon on Saturdays.

Application forms can also be had form Professor (Academic), JIPMER, Puducherry-605006 up to 16th June 2008 through postal requests, accompanied by a M.I.C.R. Bank Draft for the appropriate amount mentioned below. The DD is to be drawn in favour of “Accounts Officer, JIPMER” payable at any Nationalized Bank in Pondicherry, Union Territory.

The entrance examination for the science based Diploma Courses will be on Thursday, 22 May 2008 and for the degree courses on Friday, 23 May 2008 at the following centres:

DIPLOMA COURSES (Group B) (excludes Special Papers and the General Paper NS – Courses, 91, 141- 404)
BENGALURU, CHENNAI, DELHI, ERNAKULAM, GUWAHATI, HYDERABAD, KOLKATTA, LUCKNOW, MADURAI, MUMBAI, SALEM, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM & VELLORE.

These examinations will consist of multiple-choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Ability with emphasis on Speed and Accuracy and a few questions on issues of current topical interest. The examination will be conducted in ENGLISH. Sample questions are given in Annexure III (“Information on Written Tests”). Performance in this examination will be the basis for being called for the interviews, practical tests and final selections. At the time of the interviews, Christian students who have applied under the sponsored category will be given a test of Bible Knowledge.

GROUP B
Special Paper(s) and the General Paper NS (Courses 91, 141 to 404):
The entrance examination will be held ONLY in Vellore on the dates stipulated. The details about the special paper are mentioned in Annexure III and the Prospectus / website. The General Paper (NS) will consist of questions of a general nature, including very basic science, general knowledge, current awareness and general ability.

INTERVIEWS & PRACTICAL TESTS
Interviews and Practical tests for selection to the various courses will be held at Vellore according to the schedule on page 3. Candidates who write the All India Entrance in May and are shortlisted for interview & practical tests for the Group A degree and B diploma courses will be intimated by letter sent by Speed Post around the second week of June. Hall ticket numbers of these candidates (invited for interviews) will also be posted on the website around 10th June. The list of candidates selected for interviews and Practical test after entrance examinations in Vellore (special paper(s) and General Paper (NS) for the Group B courses will usually be put up on the evening of the day of the entrance examination. Interviews and practical test for those who are called will be held on the date announced. Being called for interview does not necessarily mean selection or acceptance of eligibility.

Announcement of Results
The list of candidates provisionally selected will be put up on notice boards in the College and Town campuses as per the dates in page 3. Candidates can also access their results from the website http://home.cmcvellore.ac.in

FOREIGN NATIONALS & RESIDENTS
All candidates go through the same admission procedure. There is no NRI or Foreign quota. Those resident abroad, including SAARC countries will have to pay a different fee for obtaining the Prospectus and also for Registration. This may be sent in INR or equivalent currency payable at Vellore as described earlier. The charges are the same online or on paper.

For candidates who have studied abroad, the equivalency of qualification as determined by the Association of Indian Universities will form the guidelines to determine the eligibility. Please note that these are only guidelines and candidates who have qualified overseas must get in touch with the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University Chennai. Non–Indian nationals may take the preliminary written test and attend interviews. If they are offered a seat in the college, it is the responsibility of the candidate to get necessary clearances and certificates within a stipulated time limit.
