CLAT Common Law Admission Test 2008

CLAT- Common Law Admission Test 2008 on May 11, 2008

The date for the first common law admission test (CLAT) to seven leading law universities in the country has been decided. At a meeting of the heads of these universities on Thursday under the aegis of the University Grants Commission (UGC), May 11, 2008, has been fixed as the date for CLAT.

Similar to the common aptitude test (for MBA), joint entrance exam (for IITs) and AIPMT (for medical), aspiring lawyers will now have to take the two-hour CLAT consisting of objective-type questions on English language, general knowledge, basic mathematics, legal and logical reasoning.

The two-hour admission test will be entirely in the objective questions format covering English, general knowledge, basic mathematics, besides legal and logical reasoning. The combined brochure containing information about the seven law universities, the courses on offer and the eligibility criteria will be posted on the official website of CLAT, www.clat.ac.in, on January 25, according to a UGC release.

Each of the seven universities will conduct the CLAT exam by rotation "The common entrance exam wil be a major reform in legal education. It may ultimately lead to a strong network of law universites and encourage the exchange of ideas and help improve the quality of legal education in the country."....says Vice-chairman, UGC, Prof. Mool Chand Sharma

The first CLAT is being conducted by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, with its Vice-Chancellor A. Jayagovind being the convenor of this year’s common entrance test. Besides the National Law Schools at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Raipur, Bhopal, Gandhinagar and Jodhpur, CLAT will also be conducted at Delhi, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Shillong, Jammu, Guwahati, Patna, Jaipur, Lucknow and Bhubaneswar.
