Institute of Rail Transport (IRT) conducts following Three One Year and One Two Years Correspondence Diploma courses for Graduates/Diploma Holders from recognized University / Institutes OR Sr. Secondary with minimum 3 years working experience in any Govt. Organisation / PSUs.

One-Year Diploma

1.TRANSPORT ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT : Course starts from February, every year. On popular demands the date extended upto 20th April 2008.
The one year correspondence diploma course in Transport Economics & Management is likely to benefit fresh graduates from Universities desiring specialization in Transport Economics & Management and seeking employment opportunities in the related fields and those who are already working in any of the Organizations/Ministries dealing with Transport and desiring to upgrade their knowledge etc., to improve their prospectus in their respective Ministries and Enterprises.
The Course consists of the following seven modules:
Micro Economics of Transportation
Transportation and Economics Development
Methodology
Organisational Structure and Legal Aspects of Transport
Investment Policy
Inter-Modal Co-ordination
Introdution to Information Technology

2.MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORT (CONTAINERIZATION) & LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT : Course starts from April, every year. The Course Starts from 1st April, 2008 and the last date for admission is 10th May, 2008.
This one year correspondence diploma course is likely to benefit fresh graduates from Universities desiring specialization in this subject and will also be useful to those who are working in various Ministries and Public and private Sector enterprises involved with transportation , freight forwarding, cargo handling, customs house agents, shippers, containers and those dealing with logistic management.

This course consists of the following eight modules:
Concept of Multi-Modal transport
Physical infrastructure for Multi-Modal Transport
Transport Documentation & Liabilities
Cargo and liability Insurance
Commercial aspects of Multi-Modal Transport
Cargo and Container Handling
Information Technology in Transport Management
India's Growing Conflict between Trade & Transport
All the lessons are printed in Hindi and English and sent to the candidates by post.

These two diploma courses have also been recognized by the Ministry of Railways as additional desirable qualification for requirement to the posts in the Commercial, Operating, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering Departments.

This course is very useful to serving employees of Railways, Trade and Industries and those in the Public and Private Sector connected with containerisation, intermodlisum and logistics.

COURSE FEE: Rs. 2,200/- without Contact Classes, OR Rs. 3,000/- with Contact Classes. (For each Course).

Both the courses are Recognised by Ministry of Railways.
