International Online Programme UNIGIS MSc/ UNIGIS ,University of Madras


 M.Sc and , Professional Diploma in Geographical Information Science & Systems for the year 2012-


UNIGIS@Madras University (INDIA) offers internationally recognised academic qualification within the provisions of UNIGIS Joint-study programme in cooperation with the Centre for Geoinformatics (Z_GIS), University of Salzburg, Austria (Europe).

The DUAL DEGREE qualifications conforming to the UNIGIS curriculum at the University of Salzburg, Austria are offered through 2 different study programmes:

2-year MSc in Geographical Information Science & Systems (UNIGIS MSc), and
1-year Professional Diploma in Geographical Information Systems (UNIGIS Professional)

Both the programmes are offered in Online Distance Learning Mode as well as in the Evening Classes.
The Study Programmes are offered in English Language.
Support is provided for Education Loan.
The academic qualifications 'MSc. in Geographical Information Science & Systems' and 'Diploma in Geographical Information Science Systems' are awarded by the University of Salzburg, Austria (Europe) as well as by the University of Madras, India.
Individuals aiming at a career in GI or professionals already active in this field who are interested in continuing education or pursuing an academic qualification while working will find this EVENING STUDY programme particularly attractive. With the acquired know-how from these programmes, graduates are expected to master challenges in business, industry or government in any of the following fields:
Environmental analysis and management 
(e.g. climatic factors, forest, water bodies, soil erosion, bio-diversity, conservation areas, coastal areas, mountainous areas etc.)
Natural resources and economic planning 
(e.g. agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, fisheries mining, landscape analysis, tourism, industry etc.) Infrastructure development and management (e.g. transport networks, water & sanitation, health facilities, education institutions etc.)

Entry Requirements
UNIGIS MSc Entry Qualifications:

A Bachelor Degree, e.g. Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Architecture, etc., awarded by a recognised institution in India or abroad.

Note:

Other relevant study/training programmes completed and/or working/professional experience may be considered to partially fulfil the entry qualifications.



UNIGIS Professional Entry Qualifications:

12 years of school education or equivalent qualification making the students eligible to enter the university level studies from a recognised institution / board in India or abroad.

Additional Requirements:

The courses are taught and assessed in English;
proficiency for university level studies in English is required.
The courses are offered as claa-room based evening course. Additionally all the study materials are provided thorugh an online distance learning system. So a good knowledge and experience of handling general computer operations, working with general purpose software (e.g. MS Office), internet browsing, etc. are essential for working and success in the course.

The applicants must submit 2 complete sets of following documents:

Student Application Form - signed
UNIGIS Terms of Participation - signed
Curriculum Vitae - signed
Attested copies of educational/training certificates mentioned in the student application form and curriculum vitae (if needed, originals may be required for verification).
Attested copy of passport/ national identity card / voter card etc.
2 copies of recent photograph with the name written on the backside of the photograph.

Schedule
Presently, UNIGIS@Madras University (INDIA) admits students to the course only once a year. However, enquiries are welcome any time and information is provided throughout the year.

The admission schedule for Online Distance Learning programmes is following:

Study programmes:
   2-year MSc and 1-year Professional Diploma
Starting Date of the courses: 
   13th August, 2012
Requests for obtaining Admission Documents: 
   from 25th June, 2012
Last date for submitting the Admission Documents:
   27th July, 2012
Confirmation about the status of Admission: 
   within 1 week after receiving the application documents
Last date for depositing the course fees: 
   the date mentioned in the Fee Submission Letter
