Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam is a premier research institute dedicated to the development of robust fast reactor technology based on intense multi-disciplinary research. Applications are invited from interested students for the award ofJunior Research Fellowships of the Department of Atomic Energy, tenable at IGCAR. The selected candidates will be eligible to register for Ph.D. in Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI, a deemed to be university of Department of Atomic Energy). QUALIFICATION: M.Tech. in Nuclear Engineering/Nuclear Science and Technology from a recognized University/Institute. A minimum aggregate of 60% at post graduation and graduation level is a must. Candidates awaiting results of their final year/semester results can also apply provided they have 60% aggregate up to previous year/semester.

NOTE: Candidates completed/pursuing M.Tech. in Nuclear Engineering/Nuclear Science and Technology are only eligible to apply.

For candidates pursuing M.Tech degree, final induction as JRFs is subject to submission of proof of obtaining 60% marks in the qualifying degree examinations, at the time of joining the Centre.

SELECTION PROCEDURE: Suitability of candidates will be decided based on their academic performance. Depending upon the number of applicants, candidates with marks above a cut-off will be called for WRITTEN TEST. For candidates pursuing M.Tech percentage of marks of each previous semester/year of the qualifying degree will be used to decide the cut-off. Hence, candidates are advised to attach copies of all necessary mark sheets along with calculation showing the average marks scored.

Suitable candidates will be selected based on WRITTEN TEST followed by INTERVIEW at Kalpakkam Candidates called for the written test are requested to come prepared for a stay at Kalpakkam for a day or two. Candidates with GATE score higher than 90 percentile will be exempted from the written test and will be called directly for the selection interview. The selected candidates will be initially taken as Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and will be paid astipend of Rs.16,000/- per month (consolidated).

AWARD OF JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Applications are invited for three positions of Junior Research Fellow from Candidates holding a master's degree in Meteorology/ Atmospheric Science to work on IGCAR-ISRO collaborative projects related to "Numerical Modeling Studies" in Safety Group, under "Megha-Tropiques Mission" and "PROWONAM - Mesoscale Program".

TENURE:
Project 1: Assimilation of Megha Tropiques Satellite Data in Meso-scale Meteorological and Dispersion models for Studies at South East coast of India
1 JRF, Tenure: 3 years

Project 2: Verification of Similarity relations for surface transports in Boundary Layer/ Land Surface Parameterization Schemes in MM5/WRF models and DWR data assimilation for short range forecasting for Kalpakkam emergency response system
1 JRF, Tenure: 2 years

Project 3: Atmospheric Boundary Layer Measurements with Lidar
1 JRF, Tenure: 2 years

FELLOWSHIP
The selected candidates will be initially taken as Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and will be paid a stipend of RS.12,00/- per month (consolidated). The fellowship will be provided initially for a period of two years. Continuation of the fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance and review at the end of each year. On satisfactory performance, the tenure of Fellowship will be further extended and upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) from the third year onwards with a stipend of Rs.14000/- per month (consolidated) wherever applicable. Subsidised furnished bachelor accommodation will be provided during the tenure. Candidates recruited for JRF can register for pursing Ph.D programme.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
I. Educational Qualifications:
Discipline: Meteorology / Atmospheric Science / Physical Oceanography
Essential : First class Master’s degree in M.Sc / M.Tech from a recognized University or Institute.
Desirable: Preference will be given to the candidates having experience in

Exposure to numerical modeling, satellite data analysis and GIS
Programming skills with Fortran / C, Unix/ Linux operating systems

II. Age limit :
30 years as on 1 July, 2008 (Date of birth 1 July 1978 or later).

A relaxation of up to 5 years in age can be given in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, Physically Challenged applicants. A relaxation of up to 3 years in age can be given in the case of Other Backward Class applicants.
