6th NATIONAL CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION FOR ENERGY MANAGERS AND ENERGY AUDITORS
6th NATIONAL CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION FOR ENERGY MANAGERS AND ENERGY AUDITORS - May, 2008

As per the Energy Conservation Act 2001, it is mandatory for the designated conumers to designate or appoint an Energy Manager (under clause 14(I)). BEE has been empowered to specify the qualification criteria and procedures for the certification of Energy Managers and qualifications for Accredited Energy Auditors.

Passing of the National Level Certification Examination is the qualification for an energy manager to be appointed or designated as Certified Energy Manager. For accreditation of energy auditors, certification of energy auditor may be one of the prerequisites besides other criterions before an energy auditor is considered for accreditation. It will be the accredited energy auditor who will be allowed to conduct the mandatory energy audit under the Energy Conservation Act 2001 and not the certified energy auditor.

Eligibility Criteria for appearing in the examination.
a) Energy Managers:
1. a graduate Engineer (Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Technology) or equivalent with three years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.; or
2. a post-graduate Engineer (Master of Engineering/Master of Technology) or equivalent with two years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.; or
3. a graduate Engineer with post-graduate degree in Management or equivalent with two years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.; or
4. a diploma Engineer or equivalent with six years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.; or
5. a post-graduate in Physics or Electronics or Chemistry (with Physics and Mathematics at graduation level) with three years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.

b) Energy Auditors:
1. a graduate Engineer (Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Technology) or equivalent with three years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.; or
2. a post-graduate Engineer (Master of Engineering/Master of Technology) or equivalent with two years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.; or
3. a graduate Engineer with post-graduate degree in Management or equivalent with two years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, etc.

Note: Candidates should have acquired the requisite number of years of work experience as on 31st March 2008. Candidates will be registered and guidebooks will be sent only on receipt of Experience Certificate for which the last date will be 10th April 2008. Candidates without requisite work experience are not eligible to register for the examination.

National Certifying Agency: BEE has retained National Productivity Council (NPC) as the National Certifying Agency to conduct and administer the Natioanl Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors.
Examination Dates: 10th & 11th May 2008 (Saturday and Sunday)
Proposed Examination Centres: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Dehradun, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram and Vadodara.
Examination Papers and Scheme:
a) The examination Papers for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors are given below:
(Paper)I: General Aspects of Energy Management & Energy Audit. 3 Hrs (Max. Marks)150
(Paper)II: Energy Efficiency in Thermal Utilities 3Hrs (Max. Marks) 150
(Paper)III: Energy Efficiency in Electrical Utilities. 3Hrs (Max. Marks) 150
(Paper)IV: Energy Performance Assessment for Equipment and Utility systems (Open Book Examination)**2Hrs (Max. Marks) 100

b) The candidate appearing for Energy Manager Examination has to pass all the above THREE papers, viz., Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III and obtain a minimum of 50% of the maximum marks in each paper.
c) The candidate appearing for Energy Auditor Examination has to pass all the above FOUR papers viz., Paper-I, Paper-II, Paper-III & Paper-IV and obtain a minimum of 50% of the maximum marks in each paper.
d) Question Papers for Energy Manager and Energy Auditor are common for the first three papers viz. Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III. Energy Auditor candidate passing the above three papers shall be eligible for award of Energy Manager Certification. This clause is not applicable to the supplementary candidates of the 1st National Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors conducted in 2004.
e) The degree of difficulty in Paper-IV will be comparatively much higher than other papers.
f) Medium of examination is English.
g) Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III shall consist of objective and descriptive type questions.
h) The Paper-IV for Energy Auditors will be an open book examination and shall consist of descriptive and numerical questions.
** The candidates can refer only the guide books supplied, at the time of their registration, during the paper IV examination. No other reference books and written material will be allowed.

Prospectus and ON-LINE Registration
Prospectus can be downloaded form www.aipnpc.org and Registration has to be done ON-LINE at www.aipnpc.org as per the instruction given in the website. Links to the above website are also availbale at www.energymanagertraining.com and www.bee-india.nic.in.

Supplementary candidates of previous National Certification Examination (including those registered in 2004) are also required to submit their application ON-LINE at www.aipnpc.org. Both fresh and supplementary candidates should sned the Printouts of filled in applications along with the requisite fee and enclosures to the below mentioned address.
