ADMISSION NOTICE 2008

The RLEK Human Rights Centre under the aegis of Indo-Sri Lanka Human Rights Centre for the South Asian Countries invites applications for admission to its Fifth Batch of Post Graduate Diploma Course in Human Rights (10 months duration) commencing from 19th May, 2008.

This innovative and highly participatory course looks at human rights form a global perspective and provides a strong theoretical background on the developing debates, along with ‘hands on’ experience of issues being tackled by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s ) and other institutions. Learned faculty members who have a vast experience in the filed of Human Rights shall conduct he course. In addition to the permanent faculty, leading jurists and distinguished legal luminaries are the Professors Emeritus and will deliver lectures on a regular basis. Five guest speakers form UNICEF and ILO will also deliver lectures based on their experiences of working with ILO and UNICEF. The medium of instruction for the course is English.

In order, to provide field-based experience, the students will also, as a part of the course curriculum, be attached for a period of 2½ months with NGOs and other organizations working in the field of Human Rights. They are also sent for the exposure with NHRC, National Commission for Women, National Commission for Minorities, National Commission for Scheduled tribes and Scheduled Caste and also have the exposure of visiting of functioning of the Supreme Court of India, High Courts and the conditions in various prisons.

Eligibility: A minimum of 55% marks in graduation.

The course prospectus and application form may be obtained by sending a stamped, self addressed envelope (8”x10”), along with a crossed Bank Draft for Rs.500/- drawn in favour of Rural Litigation & Entitlement Kendra, payable at Dehradun, or on cash payment from the office of the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra at Dehradun on any working day form 25th March 2008. LAST DATE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION FORMS IS 20th APRIL 2008.
The applications will be screened and short-listed candidates may be called for interviews.

Successful applicants will be notified by the 1st May 2008 and will have to report to the Centre by the 15th May 2008.

Note: Limited number of seats are reserved for the participants of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan.
