Utter Pradesh State Entrance Examination on April 19 & 20

The State Entrance Examination (SEE) for admission to technical institutes and engineering colleges affiliated to UP Technical University (UPTU) would be held on April 19 and 20, 2008.

The central admission board of UPTU has decided that application forms would be made available at all major post offices in Lucknow, Nainital, Dehradun and New Delhi from January 17 to February 28, 2008.

According to the newly-appointed Coordinator of the SEE, Dr J P Saini, the admission committee has decided that General and other backward class (OBC) candidates with atleast 45 per cent marks and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) candidates with atleast 40 per cent in the ‘eligibility subjects’ of the previous examination would be eligible to appear for SEE 2008. In addition to this, General and OBC candidates should have minimum 40 per cent marks and SC/ST candidates must have 35 per cent in ‘eligibility subjects’ separately.

This means, that if a general or OBC candidate has applied for BTech, then he/she should have 45 per cent or above marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics collectively in their intermediate but at least 40 per cent marks in each of these subjects when taken separately in the same examination.

For SC/ST candidates the corresponding figures should be 40 and 35 per cents respectively. This criterion would be followed for admissions in B.Tech, B.Pharma, B.HMCT, BFAD, MBA and MCA.

For B.Arch, the qualifying marks in eligibility subjects are 50 per cent. Individually, marks in each subject should not be less than 40 per cent (for SC/ST 35 per cent). While general and OBC candidates appearing for admissions in various courses would have to score at least 30 per cent marks in SEE for finding place in the merit list, for SC/ST the cut-off would be 25 per cent.

The application forms for the girls would cost Rs 500 as it is in the case of scheduled caste candidates. However, the price of the application forms for general and OBC candidates would be Rs 1000.

The non-refundable fees for locking the seat allotted to the candidates in the college of their choice after counselling has also been reduced. For general and OBC candidates, the fees has been brought down to Rs 10,000 from Rs 15,000 and for SC/ST candidates it has been reduced to Rs 4000 from Rs 7500. The fees would have to be submitted within three days of counselling.
