COMBINED BIOTECHNOLOGY ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR ADMISION TO M.SC. (BIOTECHNOLOGY)M.SC.(AGRI.)/M.V.SC (BIOTECHNOLOGY) M.TECH (BIOTECHNOLOGY) 2008-'09

On behalf of the participating Universities, the Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination on Sunday, the 18th May, 2008, for admission to (1) M.Sc (Biotechnology) (2) M.Sc Agri./M.V.Sc (Biotechnology) and (3) M.Tech (Biotechnology) Programmes being offered by various participating Universities (as per details given aginst each). ELIGIBILITY: Minimum 60% marks or equivalne grade in anyone: B.Tech/B.E in Chemical Engineering/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, B.Pharma, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Technology, OR M.Sc in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophycis, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics. (Also B.Tech/B.E in Electorchemistyr, Bioengineering and M.Sc in Chemistry & Physics in case of Anna University and M.Sc in Bioengineering ub case of West Bengal University of Technology)

IMP. NOTE: (for candidates of all categories) only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2006 or therafter (including those who are appearing 2008) are eligible to apply. In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examiantion PRIOR TO 2006 are NOT eligible to apply for taking admission to any of the courses. (1) M.Sc. (Biotechnology), (2) M.Sc. AGri./M.V.Sc.(Biotechonology) and (3) M.Tech (Biotechnology), for 2008-2009 session.

RESERVATION /CONCESSION:
(a) Researvation: 15% 7 and half% and 3% of seats shall be reserved for SC/ST and PH candidats respectively. All the SC/ST and PH candidates who have passed the qualifying examiantion are eligible to apply irespective of their percentage of marks in the qualifying degree examination.
(b) Concession for Kashmiri Migrants: 10% marks will be added to the overall marks scored by a Kashmiri Migrant candidates in the entrance examination. AFter adding 10% marks, in case he/she covered to the cut-off point in the merit list, he/she will be offerd admission strictly in accordance with his/her inter-se merit alongwith other candidate subject to his/her meeing the minimum prescribed eligibility requirements and also subject to his/her producng valid registration documents issued by the notified authorities certifying the candidate's Kashmiri Migrant status.

TUTION FEE/SCHOLOARSHIP:
Fee shall be charged from the admitted candidates as per the fee structure of concened University. Candidates selected for admission to those of the participating Universites, which are supported by the Department of Biotechnolgy (Govt. of India) are generally eligible for scholarship at the rates prescribed by the Dept. of Biotechnology.Candidates may please note that the M.Sc Biotechnology programme being offerd at Punjabi University, Patiala and Thapar University, Patiala, is currently not being financially supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Therefore, the award of scholarships,if any, shall be governed by the rules prevailing in these Universities, Students admitted to Gulbarga University will not get any scholarship.

By Post: Those willing to get the application form by post should send their request only to the Deputy Registrar (CEEB), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067, alongwith a valid bank draft of Rs.180/- (for one set of application form). The bank draft should be payable to "Jawaharlal Nehru Univerity, New Delhi". ELIGIBILITY: An applicant possessing minimum second class in the following qualifications/degrees in an appropriate area shall be eligible to apply for admission for Research Program.
-Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in an appropriate field of Engineeirng/Technology/Architechture, or Master's degree in Sciene in an appropriate field/Agriculture/Biotechnology; or MBBS; or M.Pharma or M.V.Sc or Master's degree in Gernamn Language (for Ph.D in German); or in Economics, Georgraphy, Social work, Psychology, Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science/Application, Architecture as applicable to the respective departments.
-Master's degree in Engineering/Technology in an appropriate field, or MBA or equivalent degree (post BE/B.Tech) as applicable to the respective departments.

Qualifying in one of the following Entrance Tests is mandatory for candidates (applying for Ph.D in Science Faculty and Interdisciplinary Program) eligible under (a) and desirable for candidates eligible under (b). CSIR-UGC NET for JRF or UGC-NET for JRF or DBT/ICMR JRF or GATE; or JEST or NBHM or IISc Entrance Test.
IISc Entrance Test is conducted in Atmospheric Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Ecological Scienes, Mathematics, Management Studies, Materials Science. (Note: IISc Entrance Test is not conducted in Engineering disciplines).

(ii) COURSE PROGRAMS [ME/M.Tech/M. Des]
(a) ME in Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineeirng, Mechanical Engineeirng, Materials Engineering, Microelectronics, Signal Processing, Systems Science & Automation, and Telecommunication Engineering.

ELIGIBILITY: Minimum second class in Bachelor's degree in appropriate field of Engineering/Technology or Post B.Sc AIMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering and valid GATE score.

Selection is based on GATE score only.

(b) M.Tech in Electronics Design and Technology, Computational Science, Climate Science(New Program) and Instrumentation.
ELIGIBILITY:
Minimum second class in the qualifying examination:
(i) Electronics Design and Technology: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with Electronics as one of the subjects of study or Post B.Sc AMIE or equivalent in Engineering or Master's degree in Physics (with Electronics as special subject) and 2 years experience in Electronics harware.
(ii) Computational Science: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology, or Master's degree in Science (in all cases strong mathematical and programming background is required).
(iii) Climate Science: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology, or Master's degree in Physical Science.
(iv) Instrumentation: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in Instrumentaion/ Instrumentaion 7 Control Engineering/Electronics & Instrumentation/Electronics or Master's degree in Science with specialization in Instrumentation/Electronics.
Section for (i), (ii), (iii) is absed on an aptitude test and interview after short-listing based on the GATE scores and for (iv) based on GATE Score only.

(c) M DES in Product Design & Engineering:
ELIGIBILITY:
Minimum second class in Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Design/Architecture or Post B.Sc AMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering including Architecture.
Selection is based on the Design Aptitude Test and Interview after short-listing based on GATE/CEED scores.

(iii) INTEGRATED Ph.D PROGRAMS
(i) Biological (ii) Chemical (iii) Physical (iv) Mathamatical Sciences
ELIGIBILITY:
First class in B.Sc Degree under 10+2+3 years systems as indicated below for the various discipline.
(i) Biological Sciences:B.Sc degree in Physical, Chemical or Biological Science (including Pharmaceutical, Veterinary and AGricultural Science).
(ii) Chemical Sciences: B.Sc degree with Chemistry as one of the main subjects with Mathematics at PUC (Plus 2) level.
(iii) Physical Sciences: B.Sc. degre with Physics as a main subject.
(iv) Mathematical Sciences: B.Math or B.Stat or B.Sc or BA degree with Mathematics as one of the subject or Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
All candidates should qualify in IISc Entrance Tst 2008. The short listing of candidates for interview is based on performance in the IISc Entrance Test.

(iv) EXTERNAL REGISTRATION PROGRAM (ERP)
Sciece Faculty (Ph.D only): All departments in the Science Faculty except High Energy Physics.
Engineering Faculty (M.Sc [Engg] & Ph.D): All departments in the Engineering Faculty except Management Studies and Sustainable TEchnologies
ELIGIBILITY:
Qualifications are the same as for regular candidates. Two years experience in the curent employment. AGe NOT greater than 35 years for M.Sc (Engg) and 40 years for Ph.D as on 01-04-2008.
Please note: Entrance Test: or equivalent (like CSIR-UGC/UGC-NET for JRF/DBT/ICMR JRF/GATE/NBHM) is desireable.

Selection is based on performance interview to be conducted at the Institute.
Registration for SC/ST/PH and Kashmiri-Migrant candidates: As per Govt. of India regulations, (Grade/Class of qualifying examination is relaxed to a pass class for SC/ST candidates)

SCHOLARSHIPS: All regular students who join the Institute are eligible for IISc scholarship/fellowship from CSIR/UGC/ICMR/MHRD/AICTE/NBHM/as the case may be. Scholarships from GE/INFOSYS/IBM/HP/TATA/PHILIPS/BELL LAB are available for meritorious students.

(3) Online application - Online submission of application can be made by accessing the IISc website: www.iisc.nernet.in/admissions. w.e.f.04-02-2008. Online application fee is Rs.500/- for general candidates and Rs.25/- for SC/ST/PH candidates.

The University admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D. programme on the basis of their performance in the viva voce examination (without Entrance Examination) both in Monsoon and Winter Semesters in various areas of research in the:
(1) School of International Studies (2) School of Social Sciences (3) School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies (4) School of Computer & Systems Sciences (5) School of Physical Sciences (6) School of Environmental Sciences (7) School of Arts and Aesthetics (8) School of Information Technology (9) School of Biotechnology (10) Centre for the Study of Law & Governance (11) Centre for Molecular Medicine and (12) Centre for Sanskrit Studies.

Eligibility:
Only those candidates shall be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. Programme who have: (a) obtained M.Phil., M.Tech.*, M.P.H. degree of a recognized University/Research Institution with minimum Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 6.00 in 10 point scale/comparable standard where the grading is based on system other than 10 point scale. The candidates who have obtained M.Phil. degree from a University/Institution where dissertation is not graded or grading is not on 10-point scale, are required to forward a copy of their M.Phil. dissertation along with the Application Form for the purpose of assessment of their credentials; or (b) at least 2 years research experience in reputed institutions with research publication(s) comparable to M.Phil. standard. In addition, they should have obtained Master's Degree with FGPA of 6.00 in the 10 point scale/comparable standard or equivalent percentage. (i) For admission to Centre for Molecular Medicine, in addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with MBBS/B.V.Sc. degree of recognised University/Institution with one-year experience after internship or with MD or MVSc degree or with M.Tech. degree in Biotechnology after completing MSc. are also eligible. (ii) For admission to School of Information Technology in addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with Advanced Diploma (Post-Graduate) in Bioinformatics are also eligible. (iii) For admission to Centre for the Study of Law & Governance, in addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with relevant administrative/legal experience are also eligible. (iv) For admission to Centre for Sanskrit Studies, in addition to (a) and (b) above, candidates with degrees from any discipline with Sanskrit and Pali background are also eligible.

*only for School of Computer and Systems Sciences.

Candidates enjoying employed status and selected for admission shall be required to produce Leave Sanction Order for a period of two years at the time of admission/registration. However, there is a limited provision for exemption of this requirement to candidates employed in research and teaching Institutions located in NCR Region.

Application Forms and Prospectus will be available at the Counter in the Administrative Block of the University on cash payment of Rs. 120/- per set from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on working days (Monday to Friday) during the following periods:

The main aim of the course is to develop the pool of technically trained manpower readily available for recruitment to the Indian Power Sector. The course enhances the knowledge and skill of the graduate engineers sponsored by the Power Utilities & fresh Graduate Engineers.

ABOUT THE COURSE:
The course is of 40 weeks duration & covers all aspects of Hydro Power Plant Engineering including O&M, erection, commissioning, Management, Distribution of Electricity & Tariff.

ELIGIBILITY: Degree in Mech/Elect.Engineering or equivalent from a recognized Engineering College/University with minimum of 60% marks.

SELECTION PROCEDURE: Merit (%of marks).

AGE LIMIT: Maximum 27 years as on 15.02.08. No age limit for sponsored candidates.

TOTAL SEATS: 60 (Sixty). Reservation for SC/ST/PH is applicable as per Govt.norms.

PLACEMENT: *95% students of First course are placed in reputed organizations, remaining are in final stage of placement. NPTI maintains close linkages with power utilities.

iii) Applications can also be downloaded from www.clat.ac.in The downloaded application along with the DD and other enclosures should be sent to the Convener, CLAT at the address entioned above.

b) On-line: For online submission of application, visit, www.clat.ac.in. The completed and pinted Online CLAT 2008 Application form along with DD for Rs.2000/- drawn in favor of Convener, CLAT and payable at Bangalore along with other enclosures should be sent to the Convener, CLAT at the above address. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
