These examinations will consist of multiple-choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Ability with emphasis on Speed and Accuracy and a few questions on issues of current topical interest. The examination will be conducted in ENGLISH. Sample questions are given in Annexure III (“Information on Written Tests”). Performance in this examination will be the basis for being called for the interviews, practical tests and final selections. At the time of the interviews, Christian students who have applied under the sponsored category will be given a test of Bible Knowledge.
GROUP B
Special Paper(s) and the General Paper NS (Courses 91, 141 to 404):
The entrance examination will be held ONLY in Vellore on the dates stipulated. The details about the special paper are mentioned in Annexure III and the Prospectus / website. The General Paper (NS) will consist of questions of a general nature, including very basic science, general knowledge, current awareness and general ability.
INTERVIEWS & PRACTICAL TESTS
Interviews and Practical tests for selection to the various courses will be held at Vellore according to the schedule on page 3. Candidates who write the All India Entrance in May and are shortlisted for interview & practical tests for the Group A degree and B diploma courses will be intimated by letter sent by Speed Post around the second week of June. Hall ticket numbers of these candidates (invited for interviews) will also be posted on the website around 10th June. The list of candidates selected for interviews and Practical test after entrance examinations in Vellore (special paper(s) and General Paper (NS) for the Group B courses will usually be put up on the evening of the day of the entrance examination. Interviews and practical test for those who are called will be held on the date announced. Being called for interview does not necessarily mean selection or acceptance of eligibility.

The list of candidates provisionally selected will be put up on notice boards in the College and Town campuses as per the dates in page 3. Candidates can also access their results from the website http://home.cmcvellore.ac.in
FOREIGN NATIONALS & RESIDENTS
All candidates go through the same admission procedure. There is no NRI or Foreign quota. Those resident abroad, including SAARC countries will have to pay a different fee for obtaining the Prospectus and also for Registration. This may be sent in INR or equivalent currency payable at Vellore as described earlier. The charges are the same online or on paper.

COURSE INFORMATION:
DAA is a distance education programme, offered jointly by the Christian Medical College, Vellore and the International Asthma Services (IAS) , a registered charitable institution in Colorado, USA. The course was formulated to train qualified specialists in both theoretical and practical aspects of the practice of Allergy and Asthma and related aspects of clinical Immunology. We believe the training would equip the trainees with the necessary skills to practice this specialty at a high standard. Specialists with an MD degree or DNB or PG diploma in TB & Chest/Respiratory diseases/Paediatrics / General medicine are eligible to apply. Candidates with an MBBS qualification with a proven track record of academic practice in Allergy and asthma may be considered, at the discretion of the selection committee. These candidates should substantiate their experience when they apply.
International and National faculty will provide 4 one-week contact programmes in Vellore, Tamilnadu. Study material shall be provided for self study and the candidates would be required to complete assignments based on these. On successful completion of the course, a certificate of proficiency will be granted by CMC, Vellore and the International Asthma services.
Candidates serve a 2 week rotation through CMC allergy skin testing / immune therapy lab and PFT labs.

The Chennai Mathematical Institute
Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, is recognized both within the country and abroad as one of the important centres in India for research and teaching in mathematical sciences. CMI is set up under a Trust and is managed by a Governing Council made up of eminent personalities from both academic and non-academic backgrounds. The academic matters of the Institute are guided by its Research Advisory Committee consisting of highly respected scientists. The teaching programmes are overseen by the Academic Council, consisting of senior faculty from CMI and other leading institutions across India. The members of the Governing Council, Research Advisory Committee and Academic Council are listed on the front and back inside covers.
Research at CMI
Professor C. S. Seshadri, f.r.s., an internationally renowned mathematician, has headed the Institute since its inception. The Institute has a talented group of faculty members who have strong academic ties with reputed institutions in India and abroad. The Institute also attracts a regular stream of academic visitors, both from India and abroad. The main areas of research in Mathematics pursued at the Institute are algebra, analysis, differential equations, geometry and topology. In Computer Science, the main areas of research are formal methods in the specification and verification of software systems, design and analysis of algorithms, computational complexity theory and computer security. In Physics, research is being carried out mainly in quantum field theory, string theory and mathematical physics. The Institute has a well established Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Placement
Students from CMI have gone on to pursue further studies at the best academic institutions in India and abroad. These include Caltech, Chicago, MIT, Princeton, U Penn and Yale in USA, ENS Paris, Univ Paris-Sud and Univ Bordeaux in France, the Max Planck Institutes and Humboldt University in Germany and the Harish-Chandra Research Institute, IITs, IMSc and ISI in India.
Though the majority of students from the Institute continue in Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics, CMI graduates have also moved into areas such as financial mathematics (at IFMR), management (at IIM) and economics (both in India and abroad). Campus and Hostel Facility
The Institute’s campus is located in the SIPCOT Information Technology Park in Siruseri, on the outskirts of Chennai. CMI’s programme is fully residential. B.Sc. (Honours) Programmes (Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics)
Admission and eligibility Students who have already passed, or expect to pass in 2008, the 12th standard (or equivalent) examination from a recognized board are eligible for admission to the programme. Admission is through an entrance examination to be conducted at centres throughout the country on Thursday, May 29, 2008. Students with exceptionally good performance in National Science Olympiads may be exempted from writing the entrance examination at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. Fees and scholarships
There will be a fee of Rs.750/- per semester (two semesters in a year). A limited number of scholarships will be available. A full scholarship will consist of the waiver of tuition fees and a monthly allowance of Rs. 3000. A half-scholarship will consist of the tuition fee being waived. The eligibility of a student to receive a scholarship will be reviewed every semester and will depend on satisfactory academic performance. Students of B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics and Computer Science will receive an additional monthly scholarship of Rs. 2000, made possible through a generous private donation.
M.Sc. Programme in Mathematics
Admission and eligibility Students who have obtained, or expect to obtain in 2008, degrees such as B.Sc., B.Math., B.Stat. or B.Tech. are eligible to apply for the programme. Admission is through an entrance examination to be conducted at centres throughout the country on Thursday, May 29, 2008. Applications are invited for admission to M.Tech Programme
M.Tech programme is offered in the Department of Aerospace Engg., Applied Mechanics, chemical Engg., Civil Engg., Computer Science and Engg., Electrical Engg., Mathematics (Industrial Mathematics and Scientific Computing), Mechanical Engg., Metallurgical and Materials Engg., Ocean Engg., and Physics (solid State Technology). In addition, a M.Tech in Clinical Engineering is also offered – details are given later in this advertisement.
QUALIFICATION:
(a) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture or equivalent, or Master’s degree in Mathematics/ Physics/ Life Sciences or related subjects or Professional qualification like AIME and other Associate membership as specified in the M.Tech Admission Brochure and
(b) Valid GATE score
Candidates graduating / graduated with B.Tech degree from IIT’s with CGPA of 8.0 and above in the case of General Category and 7.5 and above in the case of SC/ST Category can apply without GATE score. Seats are reserved for SC/ST Persons with Disabilities as per GOI rules.
Assistantship:
Candidates admitted to M.Tech progrmme are offered Half-time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) of Rs.8000/- p.m. Admission to a few additional candidates who are under merit list may also be offered without HTTA. They may get HTTA after 6 months depending upon vacancy. A limited number of selected candidates will get opportunity to do M.Tech project in Germany under DAAD fellowship scheme.
Under Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Graduate Fellowship scheme, two candidates will be selected either in Mechanical Engineering or in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering discipline and they will be offered a monthly stipend of Rs.11,000/- p.m. for two years with a one time educational materials allowance of Rs.5000/- More details about AERB scheme may be seen in the website: www.aerb.gov.in

Application can be submitted ONLINE with application fee of Rs.300/- for General candidates and Rs.100/- for SC/ST/PH candidates. M.Tech. in Clinical Engineering is a joint programme offered by IIT Madras, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum, and Christian Medical College, Vellore. The Selection will be done on an All-India basis, through a screening test and a personal interview of eligible candidates. The M.Tech. programme is of two-and-a-half years duration. The students will study and be trained at all the three participating Institutes.
