AICTE: Refund fee if a Student wants to join another College
AICTE Public Notice: on Refund Fee
The Institutions will have to refund the entire fee, after deduction of processing fee of not more than Rs.1000/-.
-> They canot confiscate original school certificate.
Students seeking admission to management and engineering courses have some reason to cheer as the institutions would not be able to confiscate their fees in case they decide to opt out to join another college to pursue better career prospects. The Institutions will have to refund the entire fee, after a deduction of processing fee of not more than Rs.1000/- in case the student withdraws before the beginning of the programme (AICTE Public Notice on 13-3.2008).
The AICTE, which has issued the public notice with a view to preventing “commercialization of technical education”, regulates institutions imparting education in various categories including management, pharmacy, computer application, engineering and architecture. The regulatory body also clarified that if a student leaves the college after joining the course, the institution would be required to return the fee with proportionate deductions of monthly fee and hostel rent provided the vacancy has been filled by another candidate.
The AICTE took serious note of the practice of confiscating original school leaving certificate of students by certain institution. Presently, many institutions admit students much before the academic session y charging full fee and confiscating their original certificates preventing them form-taking admission outside. The AICTE has also directed the technical institution to admit the students in the waiting list in the event of vacancies created due to withdrawn of selected candidates before the beginning of the course.
