Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in M.Sc./B.Tech/ M.Tech/ MBBS degree may apply for research programs in Physics and Life Sciences.

The Candidates should have qualified through NET/GATE/JEST/DBT-JRF or equivalent examination.

Applications are invited from Indian citizens for admission in the following Ph.D. programmes for the session 2008-09:

Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Food Engineering and Technology, Humanities (English) and Management, Mathematics (including Statistics), Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Interdisciplinary Areas
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Engineering/Technology/Science/Humanities/Management with 55% of marks (50% for SC/ST)


GENERAL INFORMATION:
Financial aid (Assistantship/Scholarship) will be provided to few candidates for the Ph.D. Programme @ Rs.14000/-pm with M.Tech./GATE and @ Rs. 12000/- pm with MA/M.Sc degree who has qualified NET/GATE conducted by CSIR/UGC. Candidates not qualified the above shall be paid assistantship at a reduced rate. Sponsored, part-time and self finance candidates are also considered for Ph.D. Programme.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY MADRAS

Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D and M.S programmes under regular full time [with/without Half-time Teaching/Research Assistantship (HTRA)] and part-time/external in the engineering departments of Aerospace, Applied Mechanics, Biotechnology, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical, Engineering Design, Mechanical, Metallurgical & Materials and Ocean and in the departments of Chemistry, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management Studies, Mathematics and Physics.

Opportunities exist for candidates to do Joint Ph.D in Engineering & Sciences offered by IIT Madras & National University of Singapore. Joint Ph.D programme is also offered by IIT Madras, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology, Trivandrum and Christian Medical College, Vellore in the area of Biomedical Devices and Technology.

Application and Admission Brochure may be obtained by post with a request enclosing a self-addressed envelope (26 x 18 cm) and a demand draft for Rs. 250/- (Rs. 125/- in the case of SC/ST/PD/Female candidates) drawn in favour of “IIT Madras” payable at Chennai to the Deputy Registrar (Acad.), IIT Madras, Chennai 600036 on or before 17.10.2008 by post and upto 24.10.2008 in person. Reservations are applicable to SC/ ST/ OBC/ Persons and Disability (PD) candidates as per Govt. of India rules. The envelope must be superscribed as “Request for application for Ph.D/M.S programme”. Candidates applying for more than one department should submit a separate application for each department.

. Duration : It's a Full time, Two semesters, One Academic Year programme.
One Academic Year-Two Semester - July to March (intensive course)

. Eligibility:
Graduates of any discipline including Engineers from any recognised University (with a minimum of 50% marks) or any professional qualification.

Those having PG Qualification with 50% or more marks will be considered even if such candidates secure less then 50% in graduation.
