Minimum Qualifications
(a) Engineering: M.Tech./M.E./M.Sc.(Engineering) degree with first class or equivalent in the respective or allied areas. Candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology or Master's degree in Sciences in an allied area with exceptional academic record and possessing a valid GATE score may also apply.
(b) Sciences & & HSS: M.Sc./M.A. degree with first class or equivalent in respective or allied areas with a valid GATE/ UGC Net/ CSIR JRF/ NBHM score. However, for sciences, a student with M.Tech (any branch) but with a Master's degree in the corresponding branch of science can also apply.
General Information
Financial support (i.e., assistantship or scholarship) will be provided to all students, who are Indian citizens, enrolled in the PhD program and who do not receive any other form of financial assistance.
Applicants working in Government of India R&D Laboratories also are eligible to apply to PhD Programs. Such applicants
(a) need to be deputed on leave by the parent department,
(b) do not require GATE qualification, and
(c) will not be paid any assistantship or scholarship by the Institute.

Eligible for this programme is a candidate who

These male candidates will not be able to apply for admission to MSc (N) - Obstetrics and Gynaecological / Community Health Nursing irrespective of their experience in the area.
5. is medically fit.
6. obtains the eligibility Certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai at the time of registration.
II. B Sc NURSING FOR TRAINED NURSES (2 YEARS)
Eligible for this programme is a candidate who
1. is a Diplomate in Nursing after 12 years of schooling.
2. possess permanent registration certificates from the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery / alternate course (applicable to male candidates).
3. is medically fit.
4. obtains the Eligibility certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai at the time of registration.
SELECTION PROCESS
I. MSc NURSING, BSc NURSING FOR TRAINED NURSES, FELLOWSHIP IN NURSING AND POSE BASIC DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES IN NURSING
Candidates who have applied for MSc Nursing, BSc (N) for Trained Nurses, Fellowship in Nursing and Post Basic Diploma programmes in Nursing will appear for a written examination in the centre mentioned in the hall ticket. The short listed candidates called for the medical checkup and interview after the preliminary selection will be published in the website and intimated individually by post before the 2nd week of December 2009.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
All eligible candidates are required to undertake a written examination (multiple choice questions) on 28 November 2009. The examination will be conducted in the following cities - Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Trivandrum and Vellore. The candidates are expected to report 1/2 an hour before the examination at the centre with the hall ticket. The medium of the examination will be English.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION: MD / MS / Diplomas
Candidates who have qualified for the M.B.B.S Degree of the Madras University or any other University recognised as equivalent by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and the Indian Medical Council and have completed their compulsory rotating residential internship and obtained full registration before 15/05/2010 are eligible to apply for the postgraduate diploma and degree courses.
Candidates who have qualified for a postgraduate diploma may also apply for the postgraduate degree (MS/MD) course in the same subject. Post Diploma candidates with a diploma in the same subject need to undergo 2 years of training for the degree. Note: Those who complete a DCP will not have this benefit for MD Pathology.
Candidates currently pursuing a postgraduate training programme and who complete the same by the 15th of May 2010 only will be eligible to apply.
Residency in Medical Physics
MSc degree in Medical Physics or a Post-graduate diploma in Hospital Physics (Dip R.P) from BARC, Mumbai.

Eligibility:
For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering Departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:
Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/ Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
Bachelor's degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
Regular:-
A student in this category works full-time for his/her Ph.D. degree. He/She receives assistantship from the Institute or fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency, such as NBHM, DBT, etc. Upper age limit: 28 years (as on 1st November 2009). The applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC will be allowed relaxation in the age limit as per Govt. of India rules.
Sponsored (Full-Time):-
A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter (Form-I) must be attached with the application.
Self-Financed:-
A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the Ph.D. Programme. He/She must have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. He/She must have at qualified in NET (LS) or GATE in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.
Project Staff:-
This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted to the Ph.D. Programme to work on a full-time or part-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her Ph.D. Programme, his/her category will be converted to that of SELF-FINANCED unless he/she is granted an assistantship/fellowship from the Institute or any other agency. No Objection Certificate (Form-II) must be attached with the application.
Part-Time:-
A student in this category is a professionally employed person (including the staff of IIT Patna), who pursues the Ph.D. Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form-III) must be enclosed at the time of application. He/She must have at qualified in NET (including LS) or GATE in the respective field.
External:-
This category refers to a student employed in an R&D organization/academic institution/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the Ph.D. degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a faculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the Department/Centre in which he/she is registered. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A certificate from the Head of the sponsoring Institution/Organization in which he/she is employed (Form-IV) must be enclosed at the time of application.
Note: The word Form used under this section refers to the forms as specified in Pages 4 to 6 of the Application Form for Admission to Ph.D. Programme.
Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:
Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.
Reservations:
The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC categories and for Persons with Disability (PD) will be as per Government of India rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per formats as indicated at Annexures-I and II.
Financial Support:
The Institute assistantships will be available to eligible (Indian) students as per prevailing (MHRD, GOI) norms, as applicable from time to time. The present rates of assistantships are as below:
BE/ BTech/ MSc/ MA equivalent with valid GATE score above the prescribed cut off level/ NET / NBHM/ DBT-JRF qualification:
1st & 2nd Year: Rs.12, 000/- p.m.
3rd & 4th Year: Rs.14, 000/- p.m.
5th Year: Rs.15,000/- p.m.
ME/ MTech or equivalent:
1st & 2nd Year: Rs.14, 000/- p.m.
3rd & 4th Year #: Rs.15,000/- p.m.
Note:# No assistantship will be available beyond 4th year for this category of students.
Assistantships from external funding organizations will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned funding organizations.
Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms.
The continuation of the assistantship/fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory progress of the student in the Ph.D. Programme.
Minimum Experience required for Sponsored (Full-Time), Self-Financed, Part-Time and External Categories of Candidates:
Candidate in Sponsored, Part-time and External categories must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organisation with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field.
Candidates in Self-financed category should have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field.

The All India Post Graduate Medical/Dental Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE-2010)
The All India Post Graduate Medical/Dental Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE-2010) for admission under the 50% seats quota in MD/MS/Diploma and MDS Courses in Medical and Dental Colleges in the country run by Union of India, State Governments (except Government of Andhra Pradesh and J&K) and Municipal or other local authorities, to be conducted by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, will be held on 10th January (Sunday), 2010.
Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply. Applicant must possess MBBS/BDS Degree from a recognized Medical/Dental College or a Foreign Degree included in the schedule to the IMC Act, 1955 and full Registration either from the Medical/Dental Council of India or State Medical/Dental Council after completing the Compulsory Rotating Internship. Applicants, who have obtained MBBS/BDS from Medical/Dental Colleges in Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, are not eligible to apply. However, those who were nominated by the Government of India (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare/ DGHS New Delhi) to do MBBS/BDS from Medical/Dental Colleges in Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir are eligible to apply subject to submission of requisite documents specified in the Prospectus. Applicant should complete the required period of 12 months pre-registration internship from a recognized Hospital on or before 31.3.2010.
The Cost of the Prospectus-cum-Application form is Rs.1000/- for General/OBC candidates and Rs.800/- in case of SC/ST candidates which is inclusive of the Examination Fee. It can be obtained against Cash Payment from select branches of State Bank of India between 14.9.2009 and 3.10.2009. Prospectus-cum-Application form can also be obtained from the 'Assistant Controller of Examinations, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi-110608', till 3.10.2010, through Speed Post/Registered Post by sending a written request with an Account Payee bank Draft of Rs.1050/- for General & OBC Applicants and Rs.850/- in case of SC/ST Applicants, taken in favour of 'AIPGMEE-2010', issued by SBI, drawn on SBI, Service Branch (Code No 7687), New Delhi, valid up to March/April 2010, with the words 'Request for Application Form for AIPGMEE-2010' written at the top of the request and on the envelope containing the request. The address, at which the Application is required, should be written in Capital Letters and with Pin Code.
Completed Applications should reach the Examination Section, AIIMS latest by 5 pm on 12.10.2009.
