Global MBA Program 2008 (May intake)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS and GUIDELINES
1. This being a post-graduate program you must be a graduate to apply.
2. You need to have done an aptitude test. We consider GMAT or CAT scores. If you have not taken any and are not planning to do so, you must take an aptitude test conducted by S.P Jain. If you have taken one of the above mentioned aptitude tests you may also take our aptitude test, if you so desire. We will consider the best score.
3. You will not be short listed for evaluations until and unless you have a score on your records to show us.
4. The admissions team selects candidates based on consistent and high academic performance, quality and rigor of the under graduate studies, relevant work experience, demonstrated leadership qualities, analytical abilities, communication skills and other personality traits.
5. You can apply for only one specialization. Duplicate application forms will not be scrutinized and the application/specialization received as the first application will be considered only.
6. Admission is offered only for a specific stream of specialization and stream change requests are not granted. The candidate is evaluated with reference to the stream applied for.
7. Candidates with no work experience are welcome to apply. A small percentage of the class is reserved for very deserving fresh candidates. Normally relevant work experience is a pre-requisite. Further relevant post-graduate qualifications like CA for the finance streams are given preference.
8. A small percentage of the batch is reserved for those with a family business or who desire to become an entrepreneur. Please tick the relevant box in the application form. Such candidates are not part of our placement services. Once admitted under “non-placements” it is not possible to change to “placements” later.
9. It is very important for all candidates to read carefully the entire catalog of our Global MBA (May intake) 2008 program and note that it is a residential (compulsory) program conducted at Dubai and Singapore. We also highlight that it is a very intensive and rigorous program. Please carefully read the procedures and follow the steps. You may call us if instructions are not clear or you have a unique issue.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Fill up the application form and send it to this institute. The same could be done on-line which is the fastest way or by hardcopy. Further details of both options are given below. There is no application fee at the time of making the application.
2. The last date for applying is March 31, 2008. However, applications will be scrutinized on a rolling basis. In other words each application will be evaluated as and when received. The chances for getting selected will therefore be higher the sooner you apply. The admissions may be closed sooner than the last date.
3. The admissions team will then shortlist applications based on past academic performance, aptitude test scores, work experience and other achievements. Short listed candidates will then be required to come to one of our selection centers for further evaluation. The evaluation consists of Group Discussion, Essay / Case Study and a Personal Interview. The centers are Dubai, Singapore and Mumbai.
4. Short listed candidates will need to pay the following fees:
Evaluation Fee INR 2500/-,/AED 250/-,/ USD 75/-
Aptitude Test Fee INR 2000/-,/AED 200/-,/ USD 60/-
Students are required to pay the above evaluation fee and/or the aptitude test fee prior to requesting for an evaluation date.
5. The results of the evaluation will result in one of 3 possibilities (a) an offer (b) waitlist (c) regret. Students may view their status post evaluations on the S P Jain website. The website is updated within 15-20 days post evaluations.

Laptop: All students are expected to have a laptop for their exclusive use. S.P. Jain will organize the purchase of these laptops at a discounted rate. Details will be given at the time of admission. Students are however; free to buy their own laptop as per the specifications given by us.
*Books will be at actual cost. The amount mentioned above is an advance against which actual costs will be adjusted during the year. Any additional cost towards books will be payable by the student whilst in Dubai / Singapore.
** on completion of the program the Dubai visa needs to be cancelled for which an additional cost of AED 240/USD 65 would be payable - this amount is not included in the amount mentioned above.
Note: Fees are payable at our Dubai or Singapore campus in AED or USD, at the prevailing rate of exchange. However, for the sake of convenience students from India may pay their fees at our India Liaison office in AED/USD. No rupee payments will be accepted in India. All airfares will be borne separately by students. Accommodation costs include hostel costs in Dubai and Singapore. Variety of food plan options available. It is normal to spend AED 600 per month (in Dubai) / SGD 450 per month (in Singapore) towards food and other living costs.
Refund Policy:
Requests for refund will be entertained only till March 31, 2008. 50% of the amount paid will be refunded after deducting the initial non-refundable deposit of AED 9125. Nil refund if withdrawn post closing of working hours March 31, 2008. Should a student wish to withdraw after full payment, withdrawal is allowed only on serious health grounds with proper documentation and certification at the discretion of the S P Jain management. An amount of AED 9125 will be held back and all balance monies will be refunded.
Last date for payment of all fees / monies - April 15, 2008. Payments received post the last date of April 15, 2008 will carry an interest rate of 2%.

The Master of Science (HRM) Program of the University is a two year full-time campus based program. It is a focused professional program designed for the benefit of participants seeking career opportunities in the areas of human resource management and human resource development. The program offers among other things a deep insight into all functional areas in the HR value chain. The emphasis is on developing tomorrow’s strategic leaders in the HR domain. The program will have a systems approach to learning while bringing out an appreciation of the mutually dependent role of HRM vis-à-vis the other functions of management.
The program focuses on various operative functions of HRM like HR Planning, training and development, compensation administration, talent management, employee relations, human resource information system, strategic and global human resource management. The program features a repository of courses and workshops aimed at honing leaders of tomorrow. There will be a special focus on imparting both theoretical and practical inputs into the various facets of leadership and team building. The program also emphasizes on training in soft skills and IT skills required for success in the HR careers. Adequate coverage is given in the first two semesters itself. Students are also required to undertake a minimum of 5 workshops during their study course. A partial list is as follows: Team Building; Neuro-Linguistic Program; Psychometric Assessment; Emotional Intelligence; Managerial Grid and Leadership Training; Level 5 Leadership; etc. IT exposure will include advanced HR packages like PeopleSoft, SAP etc.

The students are allowed to register for the MS(HRM) Program of the University as private candidates.
Eligibility and Admission:
Graduation (10+2+3 or 10+2+4) from any discipline (English Medium) with 50% and above in aggregate; and final year students awaiting results. Admission is through MS Programs Entrance Test (MSET) and Interview.

Award:
Students, who successfully complete the program, will receive the MS(HRM) degree from the University.

How to Finance your MS (HRM) Program: To supplement your own resources to finance the Program, the following sources are available:
Bank Loans:
Merit Scholarships up to 50% of tuition fee : Stipendiary Assignment Program offered by the Institute with a monthly stipend plus performance based incentives.
Bank Loans: Banks provide educational loans to the applicants selected for the MS(HRM) Program. Applicants are required to approach the respective branches in their city/town for educational loans. The loan amount will be disbursed in stages as per the fee schedule. There are no margin requirements.
The interest rate applicable to education loans is usually around 9-12% or less. The loan documents should be executed by both the applicant and the parent / guardian with joint and several liability. Repayment starts 1 year after completion of studies or 6 months after getting a job (whichever is earlier).
Merit Scholarships: To encourage meritorious students, merit scholarships are offered for the MS (HRM) Program of up to 50% concession in tuition fees. The number of merit scholarship holders will be limited to 10% of the total number of students. These merit scholarships are initially based on the performance of the students at the end of the first semester examinations of the MS(HRM) Program. The award of merit scholarships in the subsequent semesters will be governed by the performance of students in each end semester examination. The fee concession under this scheme will be applicable only for the tuition fee payments and not for any other fees i.e. admission fee, alumni membership fee and other fees as may be applicable. INVITED APPLICATION FOR APPLYING FOR AWARD OF FELLOWSHIP
1. Indian Institute of Advanced Study invite applications for award of Fellowships for advanced research in the following disciplines:
a) Social, Political and Economic Philosophy; b) Comparative Indian Literature (including Ancient, Medieval, Modern Folk and Tribal); c) Comparative Studies in Philosophy and Religion; d) Education, Culture, Arts including performing Arts and Crafts; e) Fundamental Concepts and Problems of Logic and Mathematics; f) Fundamental Concepts and Problems of Natural Life Sciences; g) Studies in Environment; and h) National Integration and Nation-building.
2. Since the Institute encourages advanced studies, proposals involving empirical work with data collection and fieldwork would not be considered.
3. Applications from scholars working in and on Northeastern region are encouraged.
4. Scholars belonging to the weaker section of the society would be given preference.
5. The prescribed application form and details of the Fellowship grants payable to the Fellows are available on the website of the Institute www.iias.org and can also be obtained from the Institute by sending a self-addressed envelop (5” x 11”) with postage stamp of Rs. 10/- affixed. The application on the prescribed form may be sent to the Secretary, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla.
6. The term of Fellowship would initially be for a period of one year, extendable further, but in no case shall it extend beyond three years.
7. Fellows would be expected to remain in residence for nine months at least. Their stay at the Institute during the remaining months would be optional. They may proceed on study tours during this period.
8. We provide fully furnished rent-free accommodation to Fellows in cottages on the Rastrapati Nivas Estate. Besides, scholars shall have access to a personal fully furnished study (which may be on sharing basis) with a computer and Internet facilities. The Fellows shall not be entitled for any House Rent Allowance (HRA).
9. The Fellows will be provided with free stationary.
10. On health front, Fellows would also be entitled for free medical treatment in the dispensary of the Institute. They would have access to vehicles for local travel on payment of nominal charges.
11. On completion of their research, the Institute shall publish their monographs.
12. It is mandatory for in-service candidates to apply through proper channel.
The Fellowship Selection Committee is likely to meet in the second week of March 2008 for the next round of Fellows' selection. INFORMATION ABOUT THE AWARD OF FELLOWSHIPS
THE INSTITUTE:
The Indian Institute of Advanced Study is an Autonomous Body established by the Government of India in 1965, under the Societies Registration Act. It is administered and managed by the Indian Institute of Advanced Study Society through its Governing Body. The Institute is residential in character, and since its inception, is engaged in higher research, primarily in the humanities and social sciences. It also aims to promote creative thought in areas such as literature, philosophy and religion. Problems relating to the understanding of Indian culture and civilisation are part of its broad research interests.
LOCATION:
The Institute is located in the former Viceregal Lodge, built during the Viceroyalty of Lord Dufferin (1881-1888). The Lodge was renamed Rashtrapati Nivas after independence. The location of the Institute is ideally suited for the life of scholarly pursuit and contemplation.
CLIMATE:
Shimla is situated at a height of 7500 feet above sea level. April, May and June are the most pleasant months in Shimla. Light woollens are enough for these months. July, August and September are usually wet. Heavier woollens are recommended for these months. October is dry and sunny, but pleasantly cold; fairly warm clothing is necessary during this month. From the beginning of November to the end of March, severe wintry conditions set in, and heavy woollens are absolutely essential.
TERM OF FELLOWSHIPS:
The term of Fellowship ranges from one to two years depending upon the nature of the project.
FELLOWSHIP GRANT
(a) Protection of salary in the parent department if a scholar is employed in Government concerns.
(b) Rs.10,000/- per month (consolidated) if a scholar is unemployed or self-employed or a foreign citizen.
(c) Between Rs.10,000/- and Rs.14,000/- (consolidated) if a scholar is superannuated subject to a maximum of the last pay drawn less pension.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF FELLOWSHIP:
1. Residence at the Institute is compulsory, during the months from April to Novermber; and optional during December to March.
2. Every Fellow is expected to submit a monograph to the Institute on the completion of her/his term. The Institute has the first right on its publication since it is keen that the findings of the research done at the Institute are made accessible to the wider world of scholarship.
3. Every Fellow, besides working for her/his project, is expected to participate in discussions, seminars, symposia, workshops, lectures, etc. organised by the Institute from time to time and contribute to the overall academic life of the Institute.
4. If a Fellow leaves her/his Fellowship prematurely without approval of the Governing Body or who does not submit the end product of her/his research to the Institute, she/he will not, subsequently, be associated with the Institute.
FACILITIES OFFERED:
1. For travelling to the Institute, to take up the Fellowship, the Institute pays travel expenses (upto AC II train fare). The same would apply, when a Fellow leaves the Institute at the end of the year.
2. The Institute provides free hard-furnished accommodation for stay on the campus and study space in the main building of the Institute and its annexe. Telephone connections through the EPBAX system of the Institute are given both at the residences and study rooms. The Institute runs a mess for the Fellows.
3. Institute has a well-equipped computerised library and is linked by computer with libraries in Delhi. Internet/e-mail/xeroxing facilities are also available. Depending on the availability of funds, the Institute tries to acquire books and other research materials needed by a Fellow for her/his individual research.
4. Efforts are made to provide the facility of computer, besides stationery items to each Fellow for preparation of the manuscript of monograph for submission to the Institute. However, if the Institute is unable to provide this facility and if, for some unavoidable reasons, a Fellow has to take outside help for preparation of the manuscript, reimbursement of the expenditure can be considered by the Institute, provided prior approval of the Director is taken by the Fellow concerned.
5. From December to March, the Fellows can work elsewhere in India, when the Institute can pay daily allowance for a certain duration not exceeding forty-days,depending on the tenure of Fellowship, and travel expense according to rules (daily allowance is not permissible in case a Fellow decides to work in her/his home town).
6. Medical facilities: The Institute has a dispensary headed by a Resident Medical Officer. In case, a Fellow is referred by the RMO, to the local State Government Hospital at Shimla, cost of medicines are reimbursed (as prescribed under the Medical Attendence Rules of the GOI).
