DIPLOMA COURSE IN HANDLOOOM TECHNOLOGY

Applications are invited form the candidates belonging to the State of Tamil Nadu for admission into the three years Diploma Course in Handloom Technology at the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Salem commencing from 1st July 2008. The number of seats for which selection is to be made is 26 (Twenty six only).

1. The applicants should have passed the SSLC/HSLC/SSC with GENERAL SCIENCE (OR) PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS, AND ENGLISH/ Technical High School/ Matriculation with Mathematics and Science/ General SSC/SSLC/ Ten Year School all with eligibility for admission to Plus Two/ HSC of study/ Intermediate Course. Wherever there are also elective or optionals in SSC/SSLC, the subjects taken for electives or optionals should be Science and Mathematics or Engineering.

2. Only those candidates who have passed the examination in single sitting and scored 45% marks in aggregate and minimum 50% marks in Mathematics and Science put together with English as a subject of study are eligible for admission. In the case of SC/ST candidates relaxation of 5% marks is allowed. Thus the eligibility criteria for SC/ST candidates would be 40% marks in aggregate and minimum 45% marks in Mathematics and Science put together.

3. Preference will be given to the applicants who belong to Handloom Weaver’s Community/ Hereditary Weavers families or those who are in weaving profession. Those who are already employed in the Weavers Cooperative Societies may also apply.

4. The age of the applicants should be between 15 to 21 years and for SC/ST applicants, the age should be between 15 to 23 years as on 1st July 2008.

5. Candidates admitted to undergo the course will be paid a stipend of Rs.400/- per month in the first year, Rs.450/- per month in the second year and Rs.500/- per month in the third year during the duration of the course.

6. Tuition fee of Rs.500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) per student per year will be charged.

7. Institutional Welfare cum Development Fund of Rs.1000/- (Rupees One Thousand Only) per year will be collected form each candidate.

8. Caution Deposit (Refundable) of Rs.1000/- (Rupees One Thousand Only) will be collected form each candidate at the beginning of the academic year at the time of admission.

9. Candidates who desire to seek admission to the above course get the application forms in person or by post, free of cost before 05.06.2008 by enclosing a self addressed stamped envelope for RS.5/- form the Office of the Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles, Kuralagam, II Floor, Chennai-108.

THE LAST DATE FOR THE RECEIPT OF THE FILLED IN APPLICATIONS IS 10.06.2008

Requisitions received without stamped envelope will not be entertained.
