Applications are invited for admission to the following courses under Regular Full Time (with / with out Half Time Teaching / Research Assistantship (HTRA)):

Ph.D. programme:
Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engg., Electrical Engineering, Engineering Design, Humanities & Social Science, Management Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engg., Ocean Engineering, Physics

MS programme:
Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engg., Electrical Engineering, Engineering Design, Humanities & Social Science, Management Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engg., Ocean Engineering

Eligibility: Minimum Educational Qualifications for Ph.D:

For Regular (full time) Research Scholars:

Ph.D. in Engineering:

a) Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record.

b) Candidates with Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit where eligible, for the relevant Engineering discipline and with a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area tenable for the year of registration.

In the case of candidates with more than 5 years relevant experience after the Master’s degree, the requirement of a test score may be waived by the Selection Committee.

c) Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. Programme as a regular full time scholar subject to the following conditions:

• a B.Tech degree holder of an IIT with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 on a 10 point scale or with a valid GATE score.

• a Bachelor’s degree holder in Engineering/ Technology from any other University should be among the top 10 rank holders in the University and having a valid GATE score.

• a Bachelor’s degree holder in Engineering/ Technology from a reputed R & D organisation and having a proven research record.

Ph.D. in Sciences:

a) Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area.

b) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology where eligible with a good academic record.

c) B.Tech degree holder of an IIT where eligible with a minimum of CGPA of 8.0 on a 10.0 point scale or with a valid GATE Score.

Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences:

Master’s degree in an eligible discipline with a good academic record or equivalent and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area.

Ph.D in Management:

a) Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record or

a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/ Technology with a good academic record.

b) Master’s degree in an eligible discipline with a good academic record and qualification in JMET/CAT/AIMA/GATE/UGC-NET JRF or Lectureship or equivalent.

Candidates with at least 5 years managerial experience in lieu of the qualifying test are also eligible.

For Institute staff members / Research Scholars under QIP / Research Scholars under External Registration / Research Scholars working on part-time basis:

For Research Scholars in the above categories, the minimum educational qualifications are the same as prescribed for Regular (full time) Research Scholars in Programme in the respective categories.

However, valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET/ NBHM/ JMET/ CAT/ AIMA/ JRF or Lectureship or equivalent qualification as applicable for regular (full time) research scholars may not be required in these cases.

Minimum Educational Qualifications for M.S:

For Regular (full time) Research Scholars:

M.S. in Engineering/ Entrepreneurship/ Management:

Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology with valid GATE score or a Master’s degree in appropriate Sciences Management/ Humanities and Social Sciences where eligible with a good academic record and a valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET/ NBHM/ JMET/CAT/AIMA or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant areas.

Candidates having Associate Membership of the following professional bodies will also be eligible for admission to the M.S. programme of their parent discipline provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both part A and part B of the Membership examinations with a good academic record.

The Institution of Engineers (India) (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communications), the Aeronautical society of India, the Indian Institute of Metals, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Institute of Electronics and Tele-communication Engineering and other professional bodies approved by the Senate from time to time.

For Institute staff members/Research Scholars under External Registration / Research scholars working on part-time basis:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree in appropriate Sciences/ Management/ Humanities and Social Sciences where eligible with a good academic record.

However, valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET/ NBHM/ JMET/CAT/AIMA or equivalent qualification as applicable for regular (full time) research scholars may not be required in these cases.

Application procedure: (a) Downloaded Application form from the website should accompany a DD for Rs. 250 (Rs.150 for SC/ST/PD).

Copies of all Mark sheets / grade cards, degree certificates beginning from first degree towards proof of qualification. [Original certificates should not be enclosed].

Copy of Community Certificate in the case of SC/ST/OBC candidates issued by the respective State Government.

Authorised Doctor’s Certificate with disability descriptions in the case of Person with Disabled (PD) candidates.

Copy of GATE score or NET (UGC-JRF/ Lectureship/ CSIR/ DAE-JEST) or other fellowship award.

Employer’s Certificate in the prescribed format (received along with Application Form) in the case of candidates applying under the following scheme:

. External Scheme (a copy of the degree certificate of the proposed Co-guide also has to be enclosed).

. Part-Time scheme sponsored by reputed University / Institution / organization.

Project Co-ordinator’s certificate in the prescribed format and a copy of project appointment letter from Dean IC & SR of IITM in the case of Project Associate if already appointed.

IIT Madras offers HSEE 2008

IIT Madras offers Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination 2008.

Details:

* Examination date is Sunday, May 18, 2008 between10 AM - 1 PM

* Sale of application commences on January 28, 2008

* Sale of application ends on March 3, 2008

* Five year integrated master's programme, leading to MA degree in three disciplines - Development Studies, Economics and English Studies.

* One objective type question paper of three hour duration in English and Comprehension Skill, Analytical and Quantitative Ability and General Knowledge covering the areas of Indian Economy (since Independence), Indian Society, Contemporary World Affairs (Post-World War II), and Environment and Ecology. Syllabus for examination is given in the admission brochure.

* Test paper is in English

Eligibility:

* Minimum 60% marks in aggregate [55% for SC/ST and persons with disabilities (PD)] in (10+2) or equivalent examination.

* In case the respective Boards award letter grades, without providing a norm for converting them to equivalent percentage marks, the norms decided by the HSEE Committee shall be final.

* General candidates date of birth cannot be earlier than October 01,1983.

* SC/ST/PD category candidates, date of birth not earlier than October 01,1978.

* 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST candidates with relaxed qualifying norms for admission.

* 3% for physically disabled, including leprosy-cured candidates, who are otherwise fit to pursue the course and who qualify for admission under relaxed norms relevant for this category.

* Reservation of seats for OBC candidates, if any, would be communicated through HSEE website as and when the Government order for the same is issued.

* Centres for entrance examination: Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi.

Admission:

* Admission brochure contains details regarding application procedure, syllabus for HSEE, examination centres, courses of study available and other relevant information.

* Application material can be obtained by ordinary post from January 28, 2008 to March 3, 2008 from JEE Office at IIT Madras by sending a Demand Draft for the cost of application material including examination fee, drawn on any Nationalised Bank in favour of `Chairman, HSEE, IIT Madras` payable at Chennai along with two self-addressed slips. IIT Madras will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay.

* It may also be obtained in person at the above address until March 3, 2008.

Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE-2008)

HSEE – 2008

For admission to the Five year Integrated Masters Programme leading to M.A degree in either of the three disciplines, viz., Development Studies, Economics and English Studies.

Examination Date and Time: May 18, 2008 (Sunday) – 10.00 to 13.00 hours.
Examination Centres:
Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi

ELIGIBILITY:
1.Candidates who have passed 10+2 or equivalent or appearing in 2008, with a minimum 60% marks in aggregate (55% in case of SC/ST and persons with physical disability (PD) are eligible)
2.Only those candidates who date of birth falls on or after October 1, 1983 are eligible for HSEE 2008. However, in case of SC/ST and PD candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by five years.

RESERVATION OF SEATS: As per Government of India Norms.

4. Application can also be obtained in person at Canara Bank, IIT Madras Branch, IIT Campus by paying cash till 03-03-2008.
