APPLICATION FORM AND PROSPECTUS for Various Courses at NIMH for (2008-09)

National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India which was established in the year 1984 at Secunderabad. The primary objective of NIMH is to develop models of care and rehabilitation in the area of mental retardation and promote human resource development incidental to the activities of the Institute.

NIMH invites applications for admission to the following courses for the academic year 2008- 09.

A) Osmania University Affiliated Courses:
1. B.Ed.Spl.Edn(MR) (1 year duration): B.A. / B.Com / B.Sc / BMR / BRS or any degree recognised by Osmania University with 50% Gen./PH and 40% SC/ST category. EntranceExam on 01-06-08 (Gen:14, SC: 3, ST: 2,PH: 1)
2. Post Graduate Diploma in Early Intervention (PGDEI): MBBS, BMR/BRS(MR)/ B.Ed in Spl. Edn/ Masters in Child Development/ Bachelor in Occupational Therapy/ Bachelor in Physio-therapy/Bachelor in Speech therapy/ Masters in Child Psy. with 50% Gen. and 40% SC/ST category. EntranceExam on 01-06-08 (Gen:9, SC: 2, ST: 1)
3. M.Ed Spl. Edn. (MR): B.Ed Spl. Education (MR) or B.Ed (General) with one year Diploma in Spl. Edn MR) recognized by RCI or (BRS (MR) with specialization in Special Education with 50% Gen./PH and 40% SC/ST category. EntranceExam on 01-06-08 (Gen:19, SC: 3, ST: 2,PH: 1)
4. M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology: P.G. Degree in Psychology from a recognized University with 55% in the case of General Category and 50% of pass in the case of SC/ST category. Entrance Exam on 02-06-08 (Gen:8, SC: 2, ST: 1,PH: 1)

B) RCI Recognised Diploma Courses:
5. Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities (1 year duration) : 10+2 or equivalent Admission through interview based on merit 16-06-08 (Gen:14, SC: 3, ST: 2,PH: 1)
6. Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation (MR) (DVR(MR)) (1 year duration): 10+2 or equivalent Admission through interview based on merit 17-06-08 (Gen:11, SC: 2, ST: 1,PH: 1)
7. Diploma in Early Child-hood Special Education(MR) (DECSE(MR)) (1 year duration) : 10+2 or equivalentwith 50% for Gen. Category and 40% for SC/ST category Admission through interview based on merit 19-06-08 (Gen:14, SC: 3, ST: 2,PH: 1)

Officer (Acd.), Manovikasnagar, Secunderabad - 500 009 and also at NIMH Regional Centre, Kasturba Niketan, Lajpat Nagar II, New Delhi – 110 024, NIMH Regional Centre, Flat No: 1B2, First Floor, Vasundhara Coop. Housing. Society, Sector-8, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai – 410 210, and NIMH Regional Centre, NIOH Campus, Bonhooghly, B.T. Road, Kolkata – 700 090 as detailed below.
Cost of prospectus for the Courses:

A) OSMANIA UNIVERSITY AFFILIATED COURSES:
1. B.Ed Special Education (MR) 1 year duration
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed BMR or BRS (MR), B.Sc., B.A./B.Com or equivalent examination of Osmania University or any examination recognized by Osmania University as equivalent there to, with 50% aggregate marks in optionals in case of general candidates and candidates with Physical Handicap, and 40% marks in optionals in case of Schedule Cast and Schedule Tribe candidates are eligible to apply for this course.
Mode of Selection: Entrance Exam on 01-06-2008 [Gen.14, SC 3, ST 2, PH 1]

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Early Intervention (PGDEI)
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed Medicine (MBBS), BMR or BRS (MR), Masters in Child Development, Bachelors in OT, PT, ST., Masters in Child Psychology with 50% aggregate marks in case of General candidates and 40% marks in case of SC and ST candidates are eligible to apply for this course.
Mode of Selection: Entrance Exam on 01-06-2008 [Gen.9, SC 2, ST 1]

3. M.Ed Special Education (MR)
Elgibility: B.Ed Special Education (MR) or B.Ed (General) with one year Diploma in Special Education (MR) recognized by RCI or (BRS[MR]) with specialization in Special Education with 50% Gen./PH and 40% SC/ST category.
Mode of Selection: Entrance Exam on 01-06-2008 [Gen.19, SC 3, ST 2, PH 1]

4. M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology
Eligibility: Minimum educational requirement for admission to this course will be M.A/M.Sc. degree in Psychology from a University recognized by the UGC with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. For SC/ST/OBC category, minimum of 50% marks in aggregate is essential.
Mode of Selection: Entrance Exam on 02-06-2008 [Gen.8, SC 2, ST 1, PH 1]

B) RCI RECOGNIZED DIPLOMA COURSES:

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE:
The National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped, established in 1984 has so far trained 10,000 professionals and personnel in 11 different long-term programmes recognized by RCI and affiliated to different Universities. NIMH has organized many international and national conferences. In the continuous rehabilitation education programmes, nearly 95,000 rehabilitation and health professionals, personnel and government officials participated. It has a team of highly qualified faculty members and specialists of various disciplines who are engaged not only in these HRD activities but also in the research and development programmes, some of which are in collaboration with international organizations.

These objectives apart, NIMH has developed service models and contributed very significantly in the dissemination and documentation. The performance in the extension and outreach programmes is par excellence covering large areas across the country.
