ELIGIBILITY:-
A) FOR M.PHIL DEGREE PROGRAMME.
A candidate who has passed the Master's Degree Examination of Gulbarga University, or any other University in the concerned or cognate subject considered as equivalent thereto securing not less than 55% of the aggregate marks at Master's Degree Examinations as a whole shall be eligible for admission. However, in case of
a) Teachers with 5 years of teaching experience on full time and regular basis and
b) Candidates belonging to SC/ST and Category-I, the minimum percentage of marks for securing admission shall be 50% of the aggregate marks at the Master's Degree Examinations as a whole.
A candidate who is eligible as indicated above shall be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test administered by the University. The minimum marks to be scored to qualify through the entrance test shall be 40% for SC/ST candidates and 45% in case of others. The merit list of such candidates shall be prepared by taking into consideration 50% of marks of Entrance Test and 50% of marks secured at the Masters Degree course.
It shall be followed by an interview to be organized by the concerned Department/ Institution. At the time of interview, the candidates are expected to discuss their research interest/area and only those candidates who have been recommended by Department/ Institution on the basis of such interview will be considered for admission.
The allocation of the supervisor for a selected student shall be decided by the Department in a formal manner depending on the number of students per faculty member, the available specialization among the faculty supervisors, and the research interest of the student as indicated during interview by the student. The allotment/allocation of supervisor shall not be left to the individual student or teacher.
A Department of Studies may also have a part time M.Phil course for the benefit of candidates who are employed on full time and regular basis and fulfill the aforestated eligibility criteria.
B. FOR PH.D DEGREE PROGRAMME.
a) A candidate who has obtained a Master's Degree from this university or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto securing not less than 55% of the aggregate marks at Master's Degree course as a whole shall be eligible to register for the Ph.D Degree Programme. However, in the case of SC/ST, the Category -I, candidates, the minimum marks required shall be 50%.
b) Such of the teachers employed in degree colleges who are in service on a regular basis for a minimum of ten years and desirous of registering for the Ph.D Programme shall be permitted for registration if they have a minimum of 50% of marks at the Master's Degree Course.
A candidate who is eligible as indicated in (a) and (b) above shall be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test administered by the University. The minimum marks to be scored to qualify through the entrance test shall be 40% for SC/ST candidates and 45% in case of others. The merit list of such candidates shall be prepared by taking in to consideration 50% of marks of Entrance Test and 50% of marks secured at the Master's Degree course. However, candidates who have passed NET/SLET/GATE/JRF/ M.Phil are exempted from Entrance Test, and their merit will be decided based only on the percentage of marks secured at the PG examinations. Further, candidates selected to work under specialized funded projects those coming under FIP/QIP Programmes and students sponsored by the Government are also exempted from the Entrance Test. They shall be directly admitted to the Ph.D Programme if they have minimum qualifications prescribed above, irrespective of merit.
The candidates so selected provisionally shall face an interview to be organized by the Department/institution as the case may be.
At the time of interview, doctoral candidates are expected to make a presentation on their research interest/area and only those candidates who have been recommended by School/ Department/institution on the basis of such interview will be considered for admission by the Doctoral Committee.

The subject of research shall be the one which relates to the main branch of knowledge chosen for Master's Degree or in a cognate subject. However, a candidate willing to register for Ph.D in a subject other than the one chosen for the Master's Degree is also eligible for registration, provided the research design of such candidates is approved by the Doctoral Committee of the subject in which the candidate is willing to register for Ph.D.
A Department of Studies may also have a part time Ph.D course for the benefit of candidates who are employed on full time and regular basis and fulfill the aforestated eligibility criteria. Candidates above the age of 55 years with a good second class P.G Degree in any discipline can register for Ph.D course in, any discipline with approval of their research proposal by the concerned Doctoral Committee.
After having been admitted, each Ph.D student shall be required to undertake course work for a minimum period of one semester. The part time candidates shall complete the course work in two phases of three months each during vacation or on leave. The course work shall be treated as pre Ph.D preparation and must include a course on research methodology which may include quantitative methods/statistical analysis, technical writing literature search skills, reviewing published work ICTs and computer applications in research management. It may also involve reviewing of published research in the relevant field. Course work shall be organized on faculty basis to ensure uniform academic standards. A student is deemed to have completed the course work successfully provided he/she secures a minimum of 50% marks in a term end examination conducted by the department having one paper of 100 marks incorporating the components mentioned above.
If found necessary, course work may be carried out by doctoral candidates in sister departments/institutes, either within or outside the university upon satisfactory completion of course which shall form part and parcel of Ph.D Programme, the Ph.D scholar shall undertake research work and submit a thesis within the stipulated time prescribed in the relevant sections of Ph.D regulations.
DURATION OF COURSE:
A. For M.Phil Degree Programme :- The full time course shall extend over a period of 12 months divided into two terms. The Part-Time course shall extend over a period of twenty four months.
B. For Ph.D Degree Programme:- A full time candidate who has completed a minimum period of three years from the date of registration and not less than six months before the expiry of the period prescribed, shall submit ten copies of the synopsis of the thesis through the Guide and the Departmental Council to the Doctoral Committee for permission to submit the thesis. In case of part time candidate the minimum period shall
be four years from the date of registration. A candidate registered for Ph.D on full time basis shall submit the thesis within 05 years from Registration and those registered on part time basis shall submit thesis within 06 years. A M.Phil course, full time and part time shall be completed within a maximum period of three and four years respectively.

Out station applicants may get the application by sending a DD in favour of Finance Officer, Gulbarga University, Gulbarga for required amount alongwith self addressed envelope affixing postal stamp worth of Rs
50.00. The SC/ST candidates can have such applications on payment of Rs 400/- (Rupees four hundred only) or on sending a DD with xerox copy of their caste certificate along with self addressed envelop affixing stamp worth of Rs 50/-.

Post Graduate Degree Courses in Engineering (M.Tech.) for graduates in Engineering
Reservation of seats
a) 5% Seats are reserved for candidates belonging to SEBC. Only candidates having annual income less than Rs.4.5 lakhs will be eligible for reservation under this category.
b) 15% Seats are reserved for SC/ST Candidates.
c) The seats reserved for each category will be distributed among the eligible communities by observing the pattern of general reservation rules of the state.
d) The additional seats available in each specialty is reserved exclusively for SC/ST candidates as per letter No. 10/83/T2 dated 9-3-83 from the Department of Education, Ministry of Education and Culture. These seats will not be filled from other category of candidates even if SC/ST candidates are not available.
e) 15% seats relating to management quota in TKM College of Engineering, Kollam, will be filled by the Management.
Eligibility for admission
a) The candidates shall be an Indian National
b) The candidates should have studied the Graduate course in an institution approved by the AICTE/Deemed Universities.
c) For Industrial Engineering & Management, the candidates shall have B.Tech Degree in any Engineering discipline, but for other branches, the candidates shall have Degree in the respective branches of engineering awarded by the Universities of Kerala, or equivalent.
d) Candidates should have a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the Engineering Degree examination. For SC/ST candidates a pass in the Engineering Degree course is sufficient.
e) Candidates, who have passed AMIE/AMIETE Examinations and satisfying the following conditions, are eligible for admission to institutions under University of Kerala.
1) They must have valid GATE score.
2) A minimum of 55% marks for section B in AMIE/AMIETE examination.
3) Minimum three years of Professional experience in the field of Specialization after acquiring the qualifying degree.
f) Candidates who have appeared for the final semester examination can also apply, provided he/she has passed all the subjects upto and including the 7th semester exam. Such candidates shall submit self-attested copies of all mark lists up to 7th semester along with the application. Selection of such candidates shall be subject to the production of qualifying degree-satisfying clauses V (a) to (d) as applicable on or before September 30, 2010.
g) Admission shall normally be restricted to those with valid GATE score. However, this stipulation is relaxed in the case of Sponsored candidates.
h) In case seats remain vacant due to lack of candidates with valid GATE score, candidates from Kerala State without valid GATE score will be considered against such vacancies.
Equivalency
a) Degree in Architecture/Civil Engineering will be considered as equivalent for admission to Master of Planning (Housing) Degree course.
b) Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering will be considered as equivalent for admission to Environmental Engineering.
c) Graduates in Applied Electronics & Instrumentation will be considered for admission to all specializations in Electronics and Communication Engineering branch.
d) Degree in Instrumentation & Control/Biomedical Instrumentation/ Electronics and Biomedical Engineering/ Electronics and Instrumentation/ Instrumentation Engineering will be considered as equivalent for admission to Applied Electronics and Instrumentation.

Scholarship
Scholarship is available for candidates with valid GATE Score at the rate of Rs.8000/- per month vide GO (Rt) No. 67/09/H.Edn dated: 19.01.09 for the total period of 24 months subject to the following conditions.
a) Each student shall undertake 8 to 10 hours of work per week related to teaching and research activities as assigned by the institutions.
b) The students must secure first class or equivalent during the first semester examination to become eligible for continuance of scholarship.
c) The student shall give an undertaking to the effect that he/she will not leave the course midway or appear for any competent examination not related to Engineering and Technology.
d) The students shall not receive any emoluments, salary, stipend etc from any other source during the course of study.
In the case of candidates with valid GATE score but do not satisfy the condition (a) above, an amount of Rs.1000/- only will be given as scholarship.

Notes:
1. The maximum age limit for admission to all undergraduate programmes is 21 years (26 years for SC/ST candidates) as on 1 Oct 2010.
2. Candidates who have appeared for final examinations in 2010, whose results are not yet declared, can also apply. However, they must send copy of their Mark Sheet showing that they have secured the minimum required marks in qualifying examination by courier / fax (on 0651-2276007 / 2275401) before the due date (see below).

IGNOU-UNESCO Science Olympiad 2010
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, India in collaboration with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), South Asia Office in New Delhi is organizing the Science Olympiad 2010 for the South Asian Countries. The purpose of the Science Olympiad is to search for and motivate the science talent in all SAARC countries.
This will be conducted on a two-tier level, initially on the basis of an objective test with huge participation, followed by limited participation by the toppers of the first test. Hereafter, this Olympiad will be called as IGNOU-UNESCO SCIENCE OLYMPIAD 2010.

The test for Science Olympiad will be conducted on 2-Tier basis.
First Tier test:
• The First Tier test shall be taken by all participants in the respective centres chosen by them.
• This First Tier test is an objective test for 3 hrs with equal weight for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in terms of test time and marks.
• It is made up of multiple choice questions with varying degree of simplicity/ hardness.
• The test will focus on the general but deep understanding of subject materials and comprehension.
• The test items will be thought provoking.
• There will be negative marking for wrong choices.
• Answers are to be marked on OMR sheets for ready reckoning of marks.
Second Tier Test:
• From among the participants the top (about 30 to 40 meritorious students from all SAARC countries) will take the second Tier test by being invited to Delhi.
• It will test the participant’s higher level of understanding and problem solving capability.
• Each question may take 5-10 minutes again with equal weight for M,P,C,B.
• Also there will be a question on broader understanding of science and society, which is restricted to 10-15 minutes.
• The total duration for this test will be 3 hrs
• This test will be held in IGNOU, New Delhi.

Eligibility Criteria
The Eligible Participants should currently (2010-2011 academic year) be enrolled at the 11th Standard/Class level in a higher Secondary School in India or its equivalent in Afghanistan, Bangladesh., Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
must have appeared and passed in the science branch (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology i.e. MPCB or their equivalent) at their 10th Standard/Class (or its equivalent) final Examination and have scored a minimum of 70%. E.g. If your scores are M=80%; P=75%; C=65% and B=70% average score is 72.5% and you are eligible to participate.If your Scores are in grades as is prevalent in some school board, it should be B1 and higher. In case, PCB is considered as a single Science subject, then the average will be between mathematics and science. Example M=85% Science=75% Average Score =80 % , Candidate becomes eligible

If you fulfill the eligibility criteria
Keep ready a scanned image of your recent photograph in Passport Size.
You must have already bought a DD for Indian Rupees 50/- (fifty only) from your bank payable to “Raman Chair, IGNOU, New Delhi” preferably on Punjab National Bank, New Delhi OR keep ready your credit card details if payment is made using a credit card before registration.
Start filling up the details and upload the photograph as per the instructions thereon.
After all information are typed, activate the registration by pushing ‘FINISH” and wait for a moment.
You will get a confirmed Registration / Hall Ticket. Download the form which contains details including your photo.
If you have paid it by DD , immediately send it along with a copy of your Registration Form BY POST to the following Raman Chair address:
