Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (UP)invites applications for Research Courses leading to the award of M.Phil/Ph.D. degree in all the Faculties of the University. Admission to the said Course is made according to the rules and regulations prescribed by the Academic Council and as enforced in the University subject to amendments from time to time. The admission to M.Phil/Ph.D. is granted by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the respective Board of Studies/Committee for Advanced Studies and Research and the Faculty.
There will be Admission Test/Interview for admission to M.Phil/Ph.D. courses as per regulations of M.Phil/Ph.D.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission to M.Phil/Ph.D. Course:-
A candidate will be eligible for admission to a Course of study leading to the degree of M.Phil/Ph.D if he/she has passed the Master's Degree examination (M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. etc.) from this University or an equivalent examination recognised by this University, with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade (In case of the Faculty of Medicine, all candidates who have successfully completed their Masters Degree may be considered eligible for admission to M. Phil. / Ph.D.) in a subject relevant to his/her proposed field of Research, provided that he/she also had obtained not less than 55% marks for admission to Ph.D. and 50% marks for M.Phil at his/her Bachelor's Degree examination subject to any further requirements for eligibility that may be laid down by the Board of Studies concerned from time to time. For details the respective Chairmen of the Departments of Studies may be approached.
How to Apply
The Eligible Candidate should fill the Online Application Form available on the Controller's Office website www.amucontrollerexams.com and the generated PDF copy should be sent to the Chairmen of the concerned Department having first preference or to the Coordinators Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit or to the Director of the Centre as the case may be along with the Demand Draft of Rs. 1000/- drawn in favour of Finance Officer, AMU, Aligarh payable at Aligarh or Cash Receipt of an equivalent amount from AMU Cash Counter (Non refundable). The Generated PDF copy of the Application Form must reach the concerned Office on or before 10.11.2010 up till 5:00 P.M. and in no case (including Postal delay) the generated PDF copy will be accepted beyond the last date.
Incomplete Application Forms, those received late, without requisite fee or not supported with the required certificates/documents shall be rejected and no further correspondence shall be entertained in this regard.
No University employee other then A.M.U. Teacher or an employee of another organization will be allowed to complete admission formalities until and unless he/she submits a Leave
Sanction Order from the competent authority for the whole duration of the Course (Minimum Two Years for Ph.D. and One Year for M.Phil Course) as the M.Phil/Ph.D. is a full time Course with the condition of regular attendance according to the regulations framed by the Academic Council.

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION FORM:
1. Fill up the ONLINE Application Form by following the instruction attached to it.
2. Take the Printout of the PDF Generated Application Form on A-4 Size paper of 80 GSM.
3. Put your thumb impression, signature and paste your recent photographs at the designated place on the Application Form.
4. Attached the appropriate Demand Draft/Cash Receipt along with other document(s) with the Application Form and do not fold or mutilate it in any way.
5. Put the Application Form inside the A-4 Size Envelope and paste the Postal Slip on the Top after filling it properly.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS
A. Foreign Nationals holding qualifying degree (minimum qualification given at Pt 1 above) from foreign countries are not required to appear in the Admission Test or Interview, and their admission shall be recommended by Board of Studies to CASR on individual basis. However the foreignnationals who have obtain their qualifying degree from Indian Universities will have to appear for the Admission Test/Interview.
B. Foreign Nationals must have the Draft of U.S.$14/Cash receipt of equivalent amount from A.M.U. Cash Counter in favour of Finance Officer, A.M.U. payable at Aligarh with him as candidates are barred to proceed further without filling up the Test Fee/Processing Charges Column.
C. Foreign Nationals are required to send the original Printout of the generated PDF File to the Deputy Controller (Admission), Admission Section, A.M.U., Aligarh-202002, India on or before the last date along with the original Draft/CR and other related documents. National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) invites applications for Admission to Ph.D. PROGRAMMES in the following departments / Schools:
Architecture
Biotechnology
Chemical Engineering

Admission to the Ph.D. programmes will be in the following schemes:
(i) Full-time (FT)
(ii) Part-time (PT)
(iii) Internal (IN) and
(iv) External (EX).
Ph.D. fellowships are available for candidates under Full-time scheme.
For the Part-time and External schemes of registration, the applicant must be an employ of a recognized institution/organization with at least two years of service and be engaged in professional work in the area to which admission is sought.
Candidates under Part-time scheme will have to submit no objection certificate from the head of the institution.
External registration is available only for candidates sponsored by and employed in recognized research institutions such as Research and Development Organizations /National Laboratories/ and Industries having R & D facilities recognized by Department of Science and Technology. A candidate applying for admission to the external registration programme must provide detailed information about the research facilities available at his/her organization and must produce a certificate from a competent authority specifying that these facilities would be available to him/her for carrying out research.. He/She should also provide the bio-data of the prospective supervisor who would supervise the candidate's work at his/her organization. External registration will be granted only when a qualified research guide is available in the sponsoring institution and is willing to guide the candidate along with a guide in NITC. Candidates from educational institution are not eligible under external scheme.
Registration under Internal (IN) scheme is available only to full time/contract employees of NITC.
ELIGIBILITY AND ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMES
The candidates for Ph.D. Programmes may be offered admission, based on certain minimum academic requirements to be satisfied by the candidates as given below:
The maximum age for admission to Ph.D. programme is 50 years.
I. Faculty of Engineering:
M.Tech. Degree in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate branch of study with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)].
II. Faculty of Architecture:
Master's degree in Architecture/Design/Planning/Engineering/Technology or its equivalent with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)].
III. Faculty of Nanoscience & Technology
M.Tech. Degree in any discipline of Engineering/Technology/Nanoscience & Technology with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA
5.5/10)].
OR
Master's degree in Chemistry/Physics/Life science/Nanoscience and Technology with first class or minimum 60 % marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, [for SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50%
(CGPA 5.5/10)] and a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET fellowship in the relevant area,
tenable from the current year.
Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or
UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET fellowship.
IV. Faculty of Biotechnology
M.Tech. Degree in Biotechnology/Life Science with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)].
OR
Master's degree in Life science with first class or minimum 60 % marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, [for SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)] and a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET fellowship in the relevant area, tenable from the current year.
Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or
UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET fellowship.
V. Faculty of Science (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics)
Master's degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Chemistry/Physics with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, [for SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)] and a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET fellowship in the relevant area, tenable from the current year.
Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or
UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET fellowship.
VI. Faculty of Management Studies
Post graduates programme or equivalent with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent [for SC/ST candidates the minimum marks is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)] and NET/UGC/CSIR fellowship in the relevant area tenable form the current year.
Candidates with masters degree in engineering and technology or architecture with GATE Score OR having Managerial experience for not less than 5 years OR when applying for Part time/ Internal/External scheme of registration do not require UGC/NET/CSIR fellowship.
SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
The admission to Ph.D. Programmes will be on the basis of written test and/or interview, by the respective Department/School.
Monitoring the Work and Progress:
Each research scholar will be assigned a Supervisor (Not more than two) by the Department. The work and progress of the scholars will be monitored by a Doctoral Committee specially appointed for each scholar. Only with the approval of the Doctoral Committee, the courses of study shall be prescribed and the Doctoral Thesis approved for submission. The work and progress of the scholars in each semester will be assessed by the Doctoral Committee and the thesis supervisor and only on satisfactory progress as approved by the Doctoral Committee, the scholars will be allowed to continue in the programme.
Eligibility for the Award of Degree:
The Ph.D. thesis submitted by the scholar will be evaluated by two external examiners, one from India and another from abroad, both being experts in the concerned area of the research. On receipt of satisfactory thesis evaluation reports from both the examiners, an Oral Examination Board will be constituted by the Chairman Senate for the conduct of the thesis defense / oral examination. The members of the Board will include one of the external examiners, thesis supervisor(s) and another examiner appointed by the Chairman of the Senate with the Head of the Department (if he is a guide the former Head) as Chairman. The scholar will be declared eligible for the award of the degree only if the Oral Examination Board recommends the same after successful defense of the thesis and has completed other requirements as per the Ph.D. regulations.
Graduation Requirements: All Ph.D. scholars irrespective of the type of registration will have to complete the following requirements for Graduation:
• Credited the minimum number of theory courses prescribed and earned the minimum CGPA stipulated
• Successfully completed the Comprehensive Viva-Voce Examination
• Presented a Work on Account report and completed the Pre-Ph.D. Examination
• Successfully presented an Open Defense of his/her thesis
• Obtained positive recommendations both from the external examiners and the Oral Examination Board
HOW TO APPLY?
1. Apply online.
2. The online application form is best viewed with Internet Explorer 6 or higher.
On submission of online application, a printout of the application has to be taken. To view
'the application to be printed', you require an Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 or higher.
3. Candidates applying for admission to different departments / schools will have to write the
corresponding codes in the appropriate columns in the Application Form. If a candidate is
applying for more than one department/school, submit separate application.
4. A passport size photograph taken not earlier than 3 months is to be affixed on the Application Form. The photo in the application should be self-attested. Additional six copies of the same photograph and one stamp size photograph should be produced at the time of interview/admission.
5. Demand Draft towards application fee (Rs. 600/- for Open and OBC candidates, Rs. 300/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn in favour of "Director NIT Calicut" payable at State Bank of India, NIT Calicut Branch (Code No. 2207) is to be enclosed.
