IIT Rajasthan Ph.D- ICT & Energy December 2010 Admission

IIT Rajasthan is one among the new set of IITs announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. IIT Kanpur has been designated as the mentor IIT for looking after the incubation activities of the new IIT in Rajasthan.

Applications for admission to the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Programme of the two Centres of Excellence in
� Information and Communication Technology
� Energy
are invited from the eligible candidates who have completed the prescribed qualifying degree. The applications are accepted throughout the year. The candidates who are in the final semester of qualifying degree also can apply for provisional admission.

Students admitted to the Ph.D. programme will have opportunity of interdisciplinary research within the scope of on thematic area(s) identified by the respective CoE. Thus scholars have a unique option to carry out research even beyond their basic disciplines/expertise in the qualifying degree.

Preference will be given to applicants whose academic background and credentials strongly exhibit the potentials to carry out application based research in matching themes of the centres of excellence. Prospective scholars, before applying, must go through the theme areas of research of centres of excellence

Research Themes and Goals
� Indigenous manufacture and design of solar thermal plant components/ technologies
� Green Campus as a living laboratory:
By introducing electric vehicles
DC appliance design powered by photovoltaic panels
Energy efficient buildings which exploit solar passive architecture
� DC smart grids, micro grids comprising of solar thermal and PV power plants
� Research and development in electrochemical power sources
� Novel heat exchanger systems such as air-cooled condensers
� Materials development for PV, Organic PV and Solar thermal power plants for improving efficiency and reliability
� Testing and calibration of solar devices
� Virtual solar lab for device simulation and optimization
� Lithium ion batteries and fuel cells as back up power and thermal storage devices
� Water splitting and hydrogen storage employing photocatalyst in visible region of the spectrum
� Waste heat management and power generation in few hundred watts via thermocells, phase change materials and thermoelectric coolers

Minimum Educational Qualifications
Degree in Professional Courses (Engineering Disciplines)

M.Tech. / M.E. / M.Sc.(Engineering) or equivalent

General or OBC
First Class or equivalent / At least 60% or equivalent / At least 6.5 CPI or equivalent

B.Tech. / B.E. or equivalent

Qualified in GATE that is valid at the time of admission to Ph.D.
