Notice of Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2008

IIT Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of different engineering institutes in India, other than IIT Delhi (and if possible, abroad) to execute an innovative research and development project under the guidance of an IIT Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a casual student; she/he will not be required to pay institute registration fees.

About the Fellowship
Duration : The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be availed of during at most two visits.

Support :
The fellowship will cover the following:
(a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi;
(b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in the Institute hostels; and
(c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week.

The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges.

Eligibility
Any undergraduate student who has completed at least 2 years of study towards an engineering degree will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Students who will be completing this requirement by May 2008 are also eligible.

How to apply
Application
The applicant should submit the following; the form can be downloaded from IIT Delhi website.
(a) Application form giving, amongst others:
(i) Area of interest
(ii) Statement of interest for working in the area
(iii) Resume

(b) One consolidated grade card; and rank in class.
(c) No Objection Certificate from the parent institution stating the starting and ending dates for carrying out full time research work at IIT Delhi under the fellowship programme.
(d) One photograph (Passport size), pasted on the application form.
(e) One reference letter in a sealed envelope.

Where to submit
The above documents along with covering letter should reach the Deputy Registrar UGS, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110 016.

Deadline: Applications will be received until 17:00 hours on 31st March 2008.
Decision: List of Fellows will be announced by 20th April 2008.

Applications are invited for admission to the full-time Master of Computer Applications (MCA) Programme 2008-2011, at Mesra and our Extension Centres at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lalpur and Noida.

Eligibility: Candidates must hold a recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (minimum in 10+2+3 system), in any of following: (1) BCA, or (2) B.Sc. in Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics, or (3) B.Sc. / B.A. with Mathematics or Statistics at graduate level. Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. Honours must have minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in average in their Honours subject. Candidates of other graduate courses must have minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in average in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects). Selection Procedure: Online Entrance Test on 24 and 25 May 2008 at Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida and Ranchi. It is proposed to hold the MCA 2008 Online Entrance Test at the following Test Centres - Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, and Ranchi - provided there are sufficient number of candidates at each of the given Test Centres. In case the number of candidates opting for a given Test Centre is less than a certain minimum, the Institute reserves the right to shift candidates to the nearest alternative Centre.

Counselling: Counselling schedules of candidates will be based on their performance in the above Test and their choices of Place for Study, and will be notified about a week after the Test, on the Institute website and Notice Boards only. The counselling will be held in the second week of June 2008 at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Noida, Mesra and/or Lalpur, at the addresses given below. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Candidates must visit our website occasionally for updates or any other matters related to the admission procedures.

Provisional selections for the MCA programme will be based on performance in the Online Entrance Test of such candidates who have applied, provided they satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria mentioned above, due consideration being given to their choice(s) of Place for Study made in their application forms. Provisional selection lists, along with procedures for admissions, will be notified as soon as possible after the counselling, on the Institute website and Notice Boards of the Institute / concerned Extension Centres only. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Provisionally selected candidates will be required to take admission by the date given, failing which vacant seats may be allotted to waitlisted candidates. The list of waitlisted candidates will also be announced on our website and Institute Notice Boards only. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Candidates must therefore visit our website occasionally for updates or any other matters related to the admission procedures.

(b) By post on payment of Rs. 1,300/- (All payments by crossed DD in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi). Postal requests must be received by 22 April 2008, and must include covering letter & two slips of paper (10x10 cm) with name, address in capitals and telephone number. ELIGIBILITY

SELECTION
Admission will be through KLSAT. The entrance test will be of two hours duration and 70% of the questions will be multiple choice type & remaining 30% will be of the short answer type to test Legal Acumen, Logical & Analytical Reasoning, Mathematical & Numerical Ability, General English and General Knowledge. The test will be held at 68 centres throughout India.

13TH Batch Post Graduate Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Engineering (2008-09)

Recognised by “All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)” & covers mandatory requirements under Indian Electricity (Amendment) Rules,1981.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN? The main aim of the course is to develop a pool of technically trained manpower readily available for recruitment to the Indian Power Sector. Besides, the course shall enhance the knowledge and skills of the engineers sponsored by the State Electricity Boards, Power Utilities etc.

ABOUT THE COURSE: This is a modular type course of one year duration. Formal coaching is held at Regional Institutes of NPTI located at Badarpur (New Delhi), Nagpur, Durgapur and Neyveli. On job training is conducted at the nearby Thermal Power Stations and the training on state of the art simulator, at NPTI, Faridabad/Badarpur/Nagpur. The course profile covers the mandatory requirements under Indian Electricity Amendment Rules, 1981, which stipulates “No person shall be authorised to operate or undertake maintenance of any part or whole of generating station of capacity 100 MW and above together with the associated sub-station unless he is adequately qualified and has undergone the specified training at a recognised Institute”.

ELIGIBILITY: B.E. or equivalent in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Power/ Control & Instrumentation Engineering. Those appearing in their final year examination can also apply. They must submit their result at the time of counseling.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION: Merit based on a Common Entrance Test (CET) followed by counselling. CET will be held on 15.06.2008 at Delhi, Nagpur, Durgapur, Banglore and Neyveli.

AGE LIMIT : For non-sponsored candidates the age limit as on 31.8.2008 is 30 years. No age limit for the sponsored candidate.

TOTAL SEATS: 200 (Fifty seats at each Regional Institute). Reservation for SC/ST/Physically challenged as per Govt. of India Norms. 25% seats are reserved for candidates sponsored from Power utilities having more than one year experience and more than 65% marks in Engineering Degree.

PLACEMENT: To provide career opportunities in the Indian Power Sector, NPTI shall maintain close linkages with Power Utilities and reputed companies for employment of these trained engineers. Most of the students of previous batches were placed decently in reputed Power sector companies.

Applications are invited for:
1. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING (PGDIE) 38th BATCH (2008-2010)
This two-year programme develops Industrial Engineers as Technology Management experts for both manufacturing and service sectors. The programme covers subjects such as Supply Chain Management, Six Sigma, Operations Management, Project Management, Logistics, BPR, ERP and Software Engineering.

Eligibility & Selection: GATE qualified 1st Class Engineering/ Technology graduates in any branch. GATE qualifiers get Teaching Assistantship. Admission based on Group Discussion and Interview with appropriate weightage given to GATE score. Selection of Industry Sponsored candidates with First Class Degree in Engineering/ Technology (with a minimum of 2 years industry experience) is through personal interview only. GATE score is not required for Sponsored candidates.
SC/ST candidates are grated financial assistance as per the scheme of Govt. of India vide letters No.11016/19/2005-SCD-I dated 21.6.2007 & No. 19012/36/05-Education dated 27.6.2007 subject to the satisfactory fulfillment of terms and conditions mentioned therein.

2. FELLOW (DOCTORAL) PROGRAMME (FP)
Areas: Organizational Behaviour, Marketing, Finance & Accounting, Operations Management, Economics, Operations Research, IT, Ergonomics, Safety and Environment Management.
The programme aims to admit, in the above areas of specialization, the individuals with sound academic background, strong motivation and potential to become excellent researches at national and international level. Applicants are evaluated on their past academic achievements, motivation and preparation for the programme, seminar presentation on the area of his/her research interest and personal interview.

Eligibility & Selection: Master’s Degree or equivalent with in Engineering / Technology, Management, Economics, Social Sciences, Biological Science and Pure Science with First Class will be considered for admission to Fellow (Doctoral) Programme. Those appearing for their final examination in the respective disciplines can also apply Selection is based on the presentation on the tentative research proposal followed by Personal Interview.
Industry Sponsored candidates with above eligibility and a minimum of two years experience at executive level can also apply under external category. They will have to stay in the campus for a year to undergo full-time course work.

Financial Support & Fees: Financial assistance is provided to all candidates for four years except for external category.
Reservation and 5% relaxation on 1st Class % marks are applicable to SC/ST/PD candidates as per Govt. of India rules for both the programmes.

For both the programmes reservation of OBC candidates will be as per the Government of India rules. Fulfillment of minimum qualifications is not an automatic claim for Group Discussion, Interview etc.
